    After spotting a mother doe and her precious fawn, I return to the log cabin to complete the barn board sheathing with my dad. I discover that a porcupine has been visiting the cabin in our absence, and I begin constructing dormers from live edge spruce which I processed on the portable sawmill.

    You have such a gentle heart. I love that you feed the birds and put apples out for the deer. What a beautiful little fawn. Thank you so much for warming this city gals heart. Wow, I can’t believe your doing dormers, there going to be so beautiful! I hope the loft is going to be a bedroom. Lots of natural light will be nice. Watching you and Sr O has been so informative and enjoyable. God bless. Healing and love Mrs O.

    Dormers bring back memories of my youth. The house I grew up, had dormers, my sister and I were small enough to sit in the dormer, and watch it snow, and at times we had a deer that would come and sleep under our tree. Many great times where spent there, and many dreams of elves dancing around the yard. Your imagination when your young, can give you almost everything. As adults, my sister and I still talk about the elves that danced for us. Lol Imagine what dreams your children will have, while sitting in your dormers on a snowy day!!

    Will be an awesome retreat when complete. Galvanized standing seam roofing would last your entire lifetime, plus rain on a tin roof is so soothing.

    All sympathy and approval for your porcupine-discouraging measures. My pet squirrel loves to chew on my telescope !! It did give me a little smile - imagining Mr. (or Miss) Porcupine, safe and sheltered, enjoying a very happy marathon of leisurely, delighted chomping.

    Hey Outsider,
    I've been enjoying your videos for the last six months and want to thank you for your channel. As a father of a young man about to turn the age of four I've gained a lot from watching your channel and have been able to share it with my son. I was raised on 50 acres in the state of Ga, US and lost a bit of my upbringing. You've helped to spark that work ethic and workmanship within our family and it is most appreciated. Many thanks.

    As a framer & structural concrete guy for over 45 years, I am impressed with your work. I still consider myself a carpenter.
    One cavoite though, having the guard up on anything but a skill77 is very dangerous, and it's not all that safe either.
    The side motors get the saw out of balance, where as the Skill motor is inline and well balanced.
    I have cut myself several times with the skill, especially when it kicks back with the guard wedged up, needed stitches too but no loss of fingers or toes.

    I can identify with your connection to the amazing beautiful fawn. About a week ago I had a similar encounter one that brought back fond memories of a young fawn when i was not old enough to attend formal schooling. Thank you for sharing this vital part of your day to day life in the great outdoors. May God in His infinite grace and mercy bring healing for your precious wife.

    What I love about this series is your strength and agility, something I miss at 72. Huge is you and your Dad's stick-to-it-ness about working whenever on a crazy short schedule. I came into the episodes then backed out back to the beginning, so I knew you had a harness! Yes better safe than on crutches. Right now for me, you just finished sheeting one side, and looking forward to the next steps.

    • @TheOutsiderCabin
      @TheOutsiderCabin  3 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      😄 It honestly felt a little strange to be using the circular saw in this episode. Especially since I seem to be known for using my chainsaw for everything from rough-n-ready felling, to precision carpentry cuts. Not that I ever tried to be "that guy" on purpose. The chainsaw has always just been the most convenient for me to use, since it's usually what I have in my hand. However, this time I was able to set myself up with the generator, extension cord, and circular saw in the morning and was good to go for the day. Still can't beat the circular saw for precision, although I've tried to with the chainsaw many times. 😄

    • @johnlavery7494
      @johnlavery7494 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ok, I know you are man of great humility but maybe it's time to show off a bit and build the other dormer on the other side with the chainsaw. I promise I won't throw my tools in the ocean and we won't judge you for an act of hubris but rather a celebration of your God given talent!

    Good call on the Dormers it's going to give the cabin such a nice cozy look plus the added light upstairs.I added a hole upstairs to my house and put 3 dormers on the front and one big one on the back for the bathroom.Roof pitch is 17/12.was a lot of work and did cost more but now it's been many years since and so happy I did it was worth the extra time and money plus made the house look great...

    Prayers for the Family. I love watching you work, even though watching you scamper around that high is bowel loosening for me to see. Amazing talent and I wish you all the best.

    So glad to see your video but sorry to hear about your wife, keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers. The cabin is really shaping up, a little easier when your dad is there helping. Stay safe, be careful, take it easy and keep dry/cool...
