Oh, joy! I am so pleased this episode is over 37 minutes long. Please, Mr. Outsider, don’t edit too much content; every frame is precious, I want to see more footage please.
I can’t even imagine what it must be like to run out of lumber.......then just go make your own. What a total feeling of accomplishment AND satisfaction.!
I'm about to get an Alaskan chainsaw mill to use with my Stihl MS461. The lumber at the big box stores is way overpriced and basically a bunch of twisted wavey junk.
It takes extra work, but it certainly does feel good, being able to produce most of my own materials. Plus the sawmill gives me the ability the do custom pieces (like a 7" thick cedar header with 3" wings), which I'd never be able to find at a lumber yard. 🙂👍I wouldn't have been able to build the cabin I envisioned without it.
@@TheOutsiderCabin Did you use the lumber you milled in this video in the dormer project? I'm confused as to whether green wood can be used immediately like that, doesn't it need to dry?

This project is so amazing. In 1982 my Dad designed a clubhouse that everyone in the neighborhood helped build in our backyard including my four older brothers and sisters. It remains one of my fondest memories of my dad who passed away a bit young in ‘96. Very inspiring story of the journey and your hardships along the way, take care and take it one day at a time.
Thanks for sharing your video. I have tremendous admiration for the effort, skill, tenacity and engineering that went into building your house. I know the personal satisfaction upon completion of the project will be immense. Cheers
I dont know what it is, but I get an extreme sense of satisfaction when I see a father and son working together as a team. Please dont ever stop doing what youre doing.
Great work as always. Yes the dormer made a 100% difference in the look of the cabin. I agree the light will be great as well. I was setting here thinking what people many years after we are gone what they will think of this cabin. It will no doubt be standing for a long time. The old building ways with added new updated ways will help to keep your great work standing for many to enjoy. Be safe buddy. Will be looking forward to your next video.

Construire sa maison dans cette belle nature est un challenge incroyable. Vous avez la chance de vivre loin de ce monde dit civilisé. En Europe on ne peut rien faire sans autorisation de l’urbanisme et sans l’accord des territoires. Félicitations.
After seeing your dormer I'm seriously thinking of adding them to my cabin (which construction has just begun so I have time to think about it). Keep up the good work. And as always you and Mrs Outsider are in our prayers.
Love that you guys are actually serious about fall protection. Most people in my neck of the woods would think the slats were enough, even with the steep pitch. When I was younger I felt the same way until I slipped and fell 3 stories to the ground.
Hey Outsider, I have a few tips for the purlin/ dormer conundrum. You're correct to be hesitant about splitting the dormer up, as it is a structural element of the building. Your idea of creating a closet is a good one, but you will need to include a vertical post on each side of the dormer to support the weight of the roof. These posts need to transfer the weight to the supports below, either through the beams or posts in the main level. So, instead of 1 closet, you're looking at 2. Or a closet and a workspace/desk area. Keep up the great work.
Bless you brother and thanks for sharing this wonderful video. I wish I knew where you get your stamina. You are building a family legacy..It was goo seeing your Dad, sharing your workload. Trusting that you and your family remain safe as the pandemic continues to evolve. Wishing you and them peace, health and happiness. Greetings from NE Ohio.
Nicely done. Great show. Good idea about cutting the purline (sp) out of the way and supporting the roof in the corner with a storage room. The storage / closet would add strength to the corner of the house. Keep up the great work.
How in the world did you learn how to be such master craftsman at such a young age? I am amazed at your knowledge of the trade! Blessings to you and all your loved ones!

Thanks for sharing your video. I have tremendous admiration for the effort, skill, tenacity and engineering that went into building your house. I know the personal satisfaction upon completion of the project will be immense. Cheers
Great progress. Glad to see dad on the job site. May God bless you and your family.
That is some really fine work. Good to see your Dad as well. Thank you for posting this.
Just looking beautiful more and more with each video
I dont know what it is, but I get an extreme sense of satisfaction when I see a father and son working together as a team. Please dont ever stop doing what youre doing.
Great work as always. Yes the dormer made a 100% difference in the look of the cabin. I agree the light will be great as well. I was setting here thinking what people many years after we are gone what they will think of this cabin. It will no doubt be standing for a long time. The old building ways with added new updated ways will help to keep your great work standing for many to enjoy. Be safe buddy. Will be looking forward to your next video.
Awesome, awesome, awesome. Says it all....( very clever work on the cable )
That looks awesome !!! And I agree.... might as well do it now before you roof it ! Really adds to the already beautiful cabin. !! Stay safe
Workmanship is amazing. Enjoy the videos.
I am always amazed how a dormer or two make a proper roof and loft.
Your cabin is going to be a great home ❤
Just jumped on YT and saw that your video is available. I let out a 'yelp'...I am so excited. my wife asked if I was ok. I told her...'now I am...My favorite TH-camr just posted his video'.... YES.....God is good..Many blessings and hugs to your wife....
I loved this video it was awesome. I felt like I was you doing the work because the videoing was fantastic. I know it must take allot of you extra time up in making the videos but it was so good. well done one that! I love love love the Dorma window its strong and looks beautiful. Your Dad and you are very clever builders. I love that your dad comes out there and helps you. I still think of your wife and pray she is doing very well. May Jesus bless you all and you little girl.
Construire sa maison dans cette belle nature est un challenge incroyable. Vous avez la chance de vivre loin de ce monde dit civilisé. En Europe on ne peut rien faire sans autorisation de l’urbanisme et sans l’accord des territoires. Félicitations.
I'm glad you decided to remove the purlin section. Removing it will open up that dormer so much.
Two by fours that are actually TWO by FOUR!!! Amazing!!!! :)
I’m very happy you use safety gear. Harness and tied off. You and dad are doing an amazing job with the build
Great job Outsider, house is looking awesome !!!!! Tell Senior I said Hello and I’m Praying 🙏 for you guys and your family.
CC Rider. 👍😁👍❤️✝️
Really great work. What a great experience to share with your dad.
Keep up the great work.
,,, or a framed knee wall instead of a post.
Excellent craftsmanship, and videography.
Ha! Love the Red Green quote. Great videos. Keeping me entertained during an awful cold. ❤
A thing of beauty built to last...Amazing!
How in the world did you learn how to be such master craftsman at such a young age? I am amazed at your knowledge of the trade! Blessings to you and all your loved ones!
Those old Masseys never cease to amaze me. We still have a late 50s 65 with a front loader and it will outlive me for sure
That viewer you referred to had wise advice. I am glad you listened.
What a blessing to hear you quote the scriptures from time to time. Good job, well done. God bless your work.
Great video the cabin is coming along really good you and your dad do good work be safe cant wait till its finished your mom is shining down smiling on both of you
Everything about this video is great,I love the solid rough cut lumber look and the strength this home has. Working with your Dad is great, the editing is great. And your Faith is great. Not one fail here. God bless you as well.
The dorm construction is added character to your home. The two together will be so useful and aesthetic. You should be commended for following through with them.
