I just want to say that the day I decided to go sober (March 9th, 2020) was because of your videos. You have helped me SO much and I am so grateful for you and your videos.
I don't think you're an under achiever at all. You have helped me along with many others change their lives around. So thank you, truly.

I managed 6 months sober, but slipped recently. Every other weekend I'm getting drunk again. I'm aware of it and tracking it daily.
With that said, after reading / listening to a lot of books about the subject. Your videos seem to bring a more human delivery to it, it feels more personal than all the best books. You've helped me and will continue to do so.
There's something about scratching that itch that's so satisfying at the time, but I know in the morning, it wasn't worth it.

Love the channel! Since I stopped drinking 3 years ago my social life disappeared completely. I joined a running club and it's been great. You can go as little or often as you like, but you meet like minded people who are happy to talk running for hours on end whose lives don't revolve around booze. They share each others successes and tge group training has helped me improve no end.I don't think joining a running club is sad. Drinkers are sad!

    • @BenjaminLeeWright
      @BenjaminLeeWright  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I think it's more the fact that I love to get lost in the run. I come up with a lot of ideas when I am out running and love the solitude of it. It is my way to recharge after being around people all the time.
Each to their own I guess.

Dear Ben, thanks for your kind answer, the sharing of your experience with that, and the perfect pronunciation of my name (no joke).
I'm gonna offer something in return. [ a commitment - which is an offer to me to be honest :D ]
You're right saying that, seing the current state of things, i should leave it alone. Actually the past couple months have been - very - hard, for a few reasons, therefore i need to remove at least this obstacle, luckily i can do that, because it seems to me that the problem is having it here.
I'm about your age and i was 14 years old the first time i smoked, and even if i had long break ups ( mainly for being constantly broke ) it is pretty much all over my memories, oh and the movements are almost inconscious, like your second self, which is nice to me, there is me saying i should not, and my hands are just making it, because i'm so bored and that thing is here. Was here i should say. My latest move it's been to remove everything, so, i'm writing to you from a freshly cleaned house.
Keep on making beautiful videos Ben!
See you in the fray :)

Hi just loved this video, I can identify with so much of what you said.... As much as a bottle is enjoyable in the evening, its the morning that isnt fun... Not a hangover, but very acute anxiety... So today I've made the decision to try and quit...been for a 17500 step hike... Up and down hills... Looks lovely where you walk.. And say to my self 'I will not to drink today' ... Forever is too long for an addict.... So I will repeat the same 'mantra' tomoro. Its good to see how far you have come and I will be revisiting older vids to remind me.. 👍

That is great to hear Kate and a good way to look at things. Giving up for good can be very daunting so taking it 1 day at a time is a great way to do it.
For me, doing the first year was the key. Once I achieved that I had a real length of Sobriety behind me that was too precious to throw away.

I absolutely agree with your answer, quite a few “friendships” were lost along the way.
But so many new things have flourished since, most importantly my relationship with myself.
I spent a lot of time with people I didn’t need, now I’m learning to be in my own company without being intoxicated.
There’s no looking back or being dragged back down.
I’m with you in regards to meeting new people, it takes a lot of work and effort.

A lot of people do not know this but non-alcoholic beers still have a small amount of alcohol in them. Thus, it is dangerous to drink non-alcoholic beer if you are wanting to stay sober. All it takes is a sip of alcohol to trigger cravings.

Hi Ben, really enjoy watching your videos and been watching for about a year now, stemming from the alcohol videos. Not commented on anything before but one question I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on would be around moderation. What are your views on moderation and is moderation the real goal? I guess a fair few people who end up engaging with the sobriety videos are of the "all or nothing" psychology, ultimately filling the void of one addiction with another, albeit healthier one. But is that really a healthy position and is the underlying issue to do with self discipline and moderation? Hope that sparks some interest and congrats on your channel👍

If your hobbies were drinking and have been for as long as you remember, that you are hobby-less, your interests are drinking and you know not what interests you, as you are the local craft beer guide/artisan gin influencer?
