    Wow. You did a fantastic job w/ the modifications & build. Good solid foundation too. Here in OH winter can get rough. I'd have to put chix wire on roof & clips for cold tarp or shade cloth. Prefer this over @mazon models. = Ideal size; panels here seem better than heavy tarp; solid metal structure. Wind problems prevented further w/ hurricane clips if concerned. Appreciate you sharing this after 5.yrs of use. 🍒
    PS: esp like sliding door. You've got the architect/engineer gene for simple affordable elegant solutions. Kudos to you.

      You should be able to put this together in a weekend. Building your own design will probably take you longer and cost more, but may be more satisfying in the end for you. Similar to "Do you want to get a cabinet from IKEA, or build your own?"

    Great video, thanks! Unfortunately I live in a climate with lots of snow, and we get some pretty good winds a lot of the time, so a greenhouse isn't for me. But I liked your video anyhow, as it really does a good job of showing and explaining setting one up, for anyone who can have one. And it was very interesting! Love your tomato plants, they look great!

      Geodesic green house might work for you.

  • @Omegawerewolfx
    @Omegawerewolfx ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Awesome review. You've really put in the work to get a lot out of the green house. I like that you still have space if you really wanted to add more plants, you can get a lot in there.
    I also admire the customizations you've done.
    If you do a follow up can you let us know what zone you're in and how many months you use the green house? Like, do you heat it in the deep winter or just let everything "figure it out" during the coldest least sunlit times........Do you use it in the summer? Or does it get too hot inside?

    • @EagleNestFarm
      @EagleNestFarm  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm in USDA Hardiness Zone 9b. It's a coastal climate so the plants are very happy in the summer and it's not too hot, especially with the automatic vents. The tomato plants usually die off around December and I change the soil and start a new batch in March/April. I haven't tried to extend the growing season beyond this.

  • @racebiketuner

    Nice modifications! I get a strong breeze every afternoon, sometimes over 14mph. Do you think it could handle that with your mods? If so, what's you best guess on maximum wind speed?

      Why not have posts on the corners of the foundation and attach the frame to the posts?

    What pollinates the tomatoes in the greenhouse?

    • @EagleNestFarm
      @EagleNestFarm  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @KT_keeper - excellent question. I mostly grow cherry tomatoes and I've found that they do fine self-pollinating. I sometimes jiggle the little flowers with my fingers, which probably helps. I have also seen people use an electric toothbrush to vibrate the flowers. This seems to be beneficial especially for larger tomato varieties.

  • @drwisdom1

    If I am looking to buy/build a small 4 or 6 ft greenhouse, do you have any suggestions? Clear plastic.

    • @EagleNestFarm
      @EagleNestFarm  ปีที่แล้ว

      Harbor Freight has a smaller greenhouse as well. It uses the same style panels, but it has a smaller footprint and lower height, and cheaper. Good luck with your project!

    What are the automatic openers for the roof vents?

  • @dragonflyattictreasuresg-pm3nj
    @dragonflyattictreasuresg-pm3nj ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Why do you say no snow? Last year I had no snow but usually only several inches at a time but have had major 3 footers which would be a problem for any greenhouse. Any suggestion on how much snow you think would be okay?

    • @EagleNestFarm
      @EagleNestFarm  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the note! I live in an area where we never get any snow, so I'm not an expert in this area, unfortunately. I imagine it should handle a couple of inches of snow just fine. No idea how many inches the roof panels can handle before breaking though, and certainly don't have first-hand experience. I wish Harbor Freight would sell the roof panels separately for cases like this. I'd also buy them, just to get more sunlight come through.

  • @lordrichard8184
    @lordrichard8184 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    How would it handle a snow load?

    • @EagleNestFarm
      @EagleNestFarm  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I imagine it would not handle snow load well. Most of the negative comments I've seen for three greenhouses are about units destroyed because of either wind or snow.

    Hi, I wonder how much you paid for the greenhouse back then? With inflation it is now 900 dollars. Thanks for the video.

    • @EagleNestFarm
      @EagleNestFarm  ปีที่แล้ว

      You know, it's been so long, I have completely forgotten the exact amount I paid. I definitely used one of their 20%-25% off coupons though. Those have gotten less frequently available over time, but for such a major purchase it's worth waiting for a holiday coupon. Cheers!

    What happened to yours in the wind?

    • @EagleNestFarm
      @EagleNestFarm  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Nothing ever happened to mine, but a lot of the negative reviews from other people are related to issues with panels blowing away in the wind. That's why I mentioned it.

    Do you get as much disease on the tomato plants like you do growing outside? I live in eastern nc and blight can be bad.

    • @EagleNestFarm
      @EagleNestFarm  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question! Well, I had to get the greenhouse because the combo of 1) deer and 2) gophers made it impossible to grow anything outside. Now that I have a an enclosed garden with an 8 foot fence, I'll explore growing plants outside more. Yes, there are some insect and fungal diseases that affect the plants in the greenhouse. Some Neem Oil spray and Copper Fungicide help out to last me through the growing season. Without those countermeasures, growing tomatoes indoors would be tough and you may have better luck growing outside.

    Would the box fit it my car I have a small suv. I’m getting one this weekend trying to see if o need a truck

    • @EagleNestFarm

      With the rear seats folded, it fit in the back of my BMW X5, which I'd call a mid-sized SUV.

    • @EagleNestFarm
      @EagleNestFarm  ปีที่แล้ว

      @mel88snider - I looked back at the video for the size of the largest panels that fit in the box. The panels are 77 1/4" x 23", so with the added cardboard and padding around them, I imagine the box would be ~ 80 inches long x 25 inches wide, and as far as I remember it was about 12 inches tall. Hopefully this will be helpful to you!

      Hi GlaD To watch your video. We just purchased the greenhouse from HF and now me and hubby struggling how to start levelling the ground. We lived here in Florida and out of the blues getting heavy rain and strong wind. How did you start the lay out of your greenhouse? To make it secure. Do you have a video of it? Thanks and Its so amazing how you grow tomatoes. I learned something new today.
