    High technology on old school trencher! Steve knows his stuff. Love that sound of that G.M.C. 2 cycle diesel. Had a 4-V1 on an irrigation pump years ago.

    You seem to gravitate to the old timers like I did in the trade I'm in (Tool & Die Maker). Their knowledge is priceless and is pretty cool. Your hard work, as with me, is why they are so willing to teach you and others willing to learn. Thanks for sharing that knowledge!

    This is awesome how laser beams can guide an old machine. It was neat watching how you guys do it. I have family who do laser guided boring underground.     deeper roots on the plant help the plants survive less rainfall and one still gets a reasonable yield in a drier year. plus a healthier plant in a wet year as the plants don't suffer rot.

    I am a Iowan that is not a farmer but have been told that some farmers are putting valves on their tile runs to shut off in extreme drought situations.Do you or have you heard of that being true. Great channel keep up good work.

    How deep is to deep for tile not to work for what you are doing and in sandy ground a farmer friend of mine would block up the ditch to help the field hold water

    Very curious to know how you equipped it to automatically run on grade. We have a Vermeer trencher that I would love to automate like that.

    I have a
    Crummer too,but mine has a 8 ft wooden handle and you can either push or pull to create a place for the tile. You might have to have Steve explain what I am talking about!

      David Raaf nope. I could but MN Millennial farmer has done a video where he has. I’ve drank for one before though. Also, you will see that that most drain into ponds

    Hope this isn’t a dumb question, but I am wondering how the tile keeps the dirt and mud from getting inside the tile? I was thinking in septic fields they put down a pea gravel base and some type of paper covering the tile. I know they work in opposite ways, just curious as to how it doesn’t plug the tile. Thanks for sharing your videos, learning a lot on how a farm works

      Depends on the soil type...midwest doesn't need a sock. French drain no...septic yes. hth

    Ben, what is the life expectancy of this type of tiling verses the old clay tile? I can remember clay tile that was old when I was a kid and some is still working 50 years later.

      Bill Whitman I’m no expert, but I’m going to say it depends on how it was installed. I’m guessing it wouldn’t outlast clay tile on a good day. But this should last me my lifetime.... hopefully

      Mark Schemmel I use tile tape. My dad likes to screw and tape his connections but I’m not that superstition.

    Very impressive operation! I was wanting to know what type / name brand of laser grade control you have on the trencher? I am setting up a Vermeer PT-18 pull type trencher for tile installation on our farm. I enjoy your videos very much also!

    In a perfect world how long does this tiling take in increased yields to pay for the expense?

      Well if it was in the ground last year, it probably would have paid for about 1/2. I would hope this pays off within 5 years, but that’s going to depend on Mother Nature and the yeild hump

    where i am not much tiling done around here every in the valley i live in their none mother nature take care of this for us as long as man does not destroy it
    seismograph and development does that very well 70 the seismograph destroy all the water well in the valley my great-great-grandparents had to stop milk cow to the shortage of water
    last year developer building development and dam up the flow of the mother nature made slowly flooding my property the developer then started to flow the water away from the development
    they are very lucky that they were stopped when they did now is the clean up how are we going to fix it the test wells they had to drill 3 out of the 100 wells have water in them
    they did close off the road, for now, they need to rebuild the bridges to take care of that summer will be done
