  • Episode 4 comes to you straight from Everest Base Camp! Sam and Adrian catch up and discuss what has been 4-years in the making: Alpenglow Expeditions' return to the north side of Mt. Everest since the closure as a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic. After hearing about changes on the mountain, and the current state of the Everest season, the two dive into Adrian's history on the mountain, his thoughts about the state of guiding it, and how he has made the tallest mountain in the world such a big part of his career.

Adriane is a badass! I have a congenital heart condition and couldn’t survive up there, but I love living vicariously through people like Adriane.

This was super informative, a hard cap on climbers is probably a reasonable policy. I wonder if they will auction or lottery off climber slots.

Are you climbing as well as heading up the climb?

I wish anybody, somebody that goes to Everest, either as support or climber, would talk about the bad things and report on them. There has to be lots of different types of crime when you have so many people from different cultures, countries and morals.
The fact that the south side can have as many as 1,500 people, there has to be more than food or cylinders stolen.
Im not looking for negativity, Im looking for truth. There has to be more than death!
    Excited to find your channel.
Best of luck with it. I sub'd.

It’s humanity. Do we really need to go into that? 1,500 people together, they’ll be some petty theft, some drinking, drug use, people will fornicate, perhaps even with someone who isn’t their spouse, some anguish, etc. that’s the negative.

thanks so much for those insights - what a change, not quite knowing whether to like all of developments by the Chinese government.

Couldn’t you just do red blood cell doping, which admittedly is a rules violation in professional sports, but climbing Everest isn’t really a professional sport.

Do people really go in with an attitude that the joy and accomplishment of climbing the mountain is worth risking death? I don't think so, they have a belief that it won't happen to them

Climbing Mount Everest is the long habituation to death.
