- Adrian Ballinger knew early on that he was made for the mountains…at Georgetown University he was mentored by a well known climber who took him around the world, opening Adrian’s eyes to what was out there and what could be:
In this interview about the making of a mountaineer, Adrian talks about working with the renowned climber and guide Russel Brice, as well as shares the traumatic story of the loss of one of his co-guides on a trip when he was just 22 years old, and how that changed him.
Adrian is married to professional climber Emily Harrington.
He has summited Everest and K2 without supplemental oxygen, he is a fully certified guide in rock, alpine and skiing….Ballinger is the founder and CEO of Alpenglow Expeditions, and has been guiding full-time for 25 years. He has led over 150 international climbing expeditions on six continents, and made 18 successful summits of 8,000m peaks.
Here's another awesome interview segment with Adrian about mountaineering and the era of commercialization:

Love these interviews with Adrian (and many of the others youve spoken to)! You have a real knack at this!
I really appreciate it, and happy that you enjoy these videos - thank you
Now I know why I have this natural gravitas towards Adrian, he's English!
Always loved his climbing vids. If I could ever afford to climb Everest or the Himalayas it would be under this man's guidance.
That would indeed be the person to have as your guide!
Thom, I really like your interviews. I think this is your TH-cam forte.
I truly appreciate it! Thank you for being a part of the channel and for becoming a member....
Great interview. I could listen to Adrian for hours!
Yeah he is the real deal! Thanks for watching, truly appreciate it
Wow, passing up a career in medicine for the mountains. That is commitment. Amazing brilliant individual. Like a modern day Mallory.
He's a truly exceptional individual. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers!
Fabulous interview, thanks so much!
I'm glad that you enjoyed it, thank you for watching!
Great interview, so interesting.
Glad you enjoyed it! I appreciate it, thank you!
Great share mate! Years ago I went to the Kendal film festival and attended at talk with Kenton cool, David brashears, Doug Scott and rienhold messner. Since then I have come to the conclusion that Mallory summited Everest
Great having you here! Thanks for watching....there are three other videos with Adrian on Everest Mystery, and a whole lot more. Glad you enjoyed this

Wow, Adrian is so full of energy and positivity. His comment on genetics was interesting. If anyone could find Sandy Irvine I think it would be Adrian after watching this short video.........lol
100% the ability to perform at altitude is the luck of the draw....genetics, then all the elements of being able to withstand discomfort and pain and extreme exhaustion, which is where the willpower element comes in.... Thanks for watching!
If I ever were to climb I definitely would want my expedition leader and guild to wear oxygen.
Damn right!
He has the best accent ever. I love it! 😂
I agree! I have four segments featuring Adrian on this channel....they should be easy to find. This one I believe is the one where he talks about where he was born and where he grew up, which will explain the accent: th-cam.com/video/l9MwNvLnWrw/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for watching, truly happy that you enjoyed the video!
What’s the ballpark assumption on the cost of summiting all 14 8K meter peeks in 92 days?
Wow, great question.....I believe Kristin Harila has been forthright with it. I'd venture to say a half million in $US....but she is bankrolling Lama Sherpa and the whole kit and kaboodle...maybe $1M ? I'm going to find out....thanks for asking!
Dude has the wildest mixed accent - a little piece from all over.
Absolutely, six years living in England then to the Boston area....quite the mix....
He sounds like a Canadian
I was wondering what was up with his accent… now it makes sense! Haha
Thanks for watching! I'll have to get Adrian back on one of these days
