@@JacksonBrooksby It’s interesting, because I had a lot of the same thoughts when I got mine. I thought the red side was a bit tight and nasal, whilst the yellow side was very round sounding. Almost everybody you see using one has almost the same settings with both sides on. I still never use the red side on its own, but find the yellow side lovely with the gain up on its own. One thing you can try is adjusting the bright trimmer for the yellow side to make it fit your set up a bit more. Another very cool way of using it is to switch the red side from drive to boost using the dip switches, brighten it up with the trimmer and play the one boost into the other. The clarity is off the scale and it sounds amazing!
If you're struggling to get a good balance between the two sides vs both on together, try this. Inside set the dip switches to clean boost both sides. On the front, set yellow side V and G knobs at about 1:30, tone at midday. Red side V at 2 G at 4, tone at midday. You've of course also got the tone trimmers inside to adjust to taste.

PT Barnum rule still rules/applies.
Couple of points learned over years. Really stands out when playing with drums, bass, etc. You’ll see when you get in a mix it doesn’t get lost whereas other drives may need more volume. Embrace the treble boost under deck but take it slow and adjust slightly. Give it some time to settle in and the boost side shines. Also enjoy using distortion right side, it adds sizzle more than anything else, but do not have high gain option. Congratulations and enjoy!
I can't be bothered to use any pedal that doesn't have a readily available backup. Sounds nice, but I'm sticking to the bog standard pedals you can grab at Sam Ash or GC.
@Stephen Waller Exactly. Any decent amp will get you a good tone, throw in a few good overdrive / distortion pedals and you're good to go. And your audience won't know the difference and frankly, they don't give a crap what gear you're using. A good OD and an EQ pedal will do the same thing.
@@joesmith8398 totally!! KOT, Klon Centaur, just not worth the money people are spending on the new or used market, yes they sound nice but not that much they warrant such a huge price difference from many other very similar sounding pedals loads cheaper. I love my pedals and guitar but I don’t want over them and an audience watching you play live wouldn’t know or care.
Great demo as always. Definetely quality versatile low/mid gain overdrive. But to my ears it is just not enough to justify the waiting and the price tag...I think there are better, more distinctive alternatives out there (thinking Hudson Broadcast, Greer Amps, EQD Plumes/Westwood, even JHS Morning Glory)
I’ve owned a KoT for about 6 years now and I still have a hard time understanding what the craze is about the pedal. I prefer to go with an OCD and SD-1.
I just received mine. Pushing 6 years of wait. I confess that I am not getting the drive tones you do and I wonder what I am doing wrong in what should have been a plug and play experience. I am running through a mesa lone star (suhr tele)-the amp settings are clean. I would love thoughts/guidance.
Waited on the list, and I love it. Such a special pedal. Tons of other great pedals out there now, and you don’t need to have a KOT, but it’s unique and absolutely phenomenal with single coils.
Yes I own the KOT V4 a great pedal. Bought mine before the pandemic & took a little over 2 years to get. It's not currently on my pedalboard but is a good dual drive pedal but there are so many other good drives out there if you are not on the wait list I wouldn't worry. Not intentionally I seem to be collecting pedals it's good to have the KOT collection. Just wished I never sold my original Klon Centaur!!
@@uzieleliud - hi there. Apologies my French isn't the best. But my version of the KOT is the High gain on the overdrive side which Mike P recommends. It's not high gain though just has a tad bit more drive. I hope that helps.
I also definitely think in the future, the aura surrounding this pedal will be on par with the Klon Centaur as a desirable pedal. Though I think Mike will continue making these as long as humanly possible.
KoT will never leave my board, it became my core tone for many years now. But it is more about feel than tone, one could achieve the same tone with something else (Jackson Audio Golden Boy, Magnetic Effects ZigZag, which really surprised me...) I waited 2.5 years for mine, but also share your point that it is not worth the money it is traded for currently.
I have a classic purple KoT. Playing at home, as it is set up, it's low gain, and wakes up with a bit of boost. With a live band, it's stellar on it's own. Nice vid, mate!
Great video man and awesome intro tune. I enjoy watching your videos a lot. I got mine in the last lockdown about 3 months ago and I love it. Just the box standard one, no higher gain option or anything, I have it on both sides a lot of the time and it's great in the band mix. Keep up the good work! Cheers - Mark.
Nice man! I have been on the waitlist 3 years or so now, looking forward to getting mine one day! I remember watching your early videos, Congrats on the progression and success of your channel!
Try the pedal at 18v ... i have an Analogman Prince of Tone... and i can say that the Boost function at 18v is quite nearly worth the price of admission lol.... if you have a scooped amp like a JTM45 ... with mids on the amp set about 10 o'clock .... i doubt youd be less than impressed :-)
My first time in your channel- I’ll be back. My King Of Tone will be ripped from my cold, dead hands. For me, it is perfect. Both sides on drive, gain at 3 o’clock. Left volume just above unity, right volume at 2-3 o’clock. Left tone set fairly neutral, right tone set a bit brighter. Heaven, whether just on the left or when I kick the right in.
I own one. It arrived a year before the Covid debacle. Wait was just about 24 months on the dot. I had actually forgotten about it until the email arrived. I really like the pedal. A lot. It’s an exceptionally nice overdrive/boost box. One of several I own or have owned. It’s not the be all end all for me. Nor did I ever expect it to be. And I think that is the way you have to approach any pedal or other piece of kit. Manage your expectations. These things are just tools. They can help you get something you might not have gotten otherwise. Or perhaps as readily. But they can’t work miracles. Any magic found in your music and playing comes entirely from you, not the gear. At most they can provide some spice or “special sauce” to the recipe. But the main ingredient is always going to be the player.
Been on the list for a couple if years. Recently bought 2 prince of tones so it's really the same thing. I'm still gonna buy if my number comes up. I'm 71 so I hope it's soon!
I've never tried a KOT and I don't suppose I ever will so I have no opinion on it....but what I would say is that pedals in a bedroom/studio environment are not the same as live in a gig situation. Pedals that I didn't "get" at relatively low volume or/and on your own suddenly make sense at volume and in the mix.
@@JacksonBrooksby I just watched the "Pedal show" where Dan actually says the KOT won't leave his pedalboard because its " so great in the mix"....well, there you go!
I ordered mine in October 2017, and I only remember about it when Dan & Mick mention the KOT on That Pedal Show. I never buy anything as an investment, and I feel that it is such a shame that people are clogging up the waiting list with multiple purchases just so that they can make a profit. I'm sure that the waiting list would be drastically reduced if buyers were limited to one pedal each, which would leave those who are genuinely interested in using this pedal able to acquire one quicker. If it's not a rude question, how much customs duty and shipping will I expect to pay? A great presentation. Thank you.
I think I was lucky in the fact that my package arrived with no customs charges. Must have flew under the radar. I think shipping was pretty expensive though. Maybe $50
They limit customers to 4 lifetime purchase and supposedly going to start putting one up on eBay for every one they sell from the waiting list to cut down on scalp fees
I hear you on the investment thing. It's like I told someone yesterday. When I buy something, be it a guitar, a pedal, or an amp, I buy them because I want them. Not because I want them for 6 months. Many of us buy stuff with the intention of keeping it forever. The weird part is people that are constantly selling their gear and buying new stuff can't seem to fathom that option. Like it just isn't possible for someone to buy something and keep it. I really don't get it.
I own one and love it. It's the only other drive I have on my board outside of a row of Pete Cornish, there's just something about it. I ordered the high gain red side and previously owned a standard gain version. I prefer the high gain, in fact, when my name comes up again in however many years, I will likely order high gain on both sides. The external toggle is an awesome add on too.
Id be curious to see how the Jhs double barrel stacks up with all these “ long waiting list “ pedals like the king tone and protein and even dullest. If it can keep up to these pedals.. then I rather just go out and buy the double barrel. Sweetwater and zzounds 2 days shipping lol 😂
I have the JHS Double Barrel. It's great. Moonshine side a bit too compressed in the (-) mode, but in the (+) mode opens it up and evens out the EQ curve not to be that mid heavy and you can dial in a little bit of clean back in so you can hear pick attack better and it's just heavenly then.
I literally just orders a used jhs double barrel V4 most everyone was out of stock so it must be good. I already have all the jhs distortion and a few fuzz pedals of theirs. I just can’t stop.
I bought one used before the secondhand prices really started climbing. Honestly it's a very good drive pedal but I only ever use it with both sides on. The OD side on its own I don't prefer to even a straight up Bluesbreaker, and the boost side alone is kinda bland. The magic is the two on together and nothing sounds quite like it, but I don't find it to be my first choice for a dual sided overdrive pedal for that reason. The Protein is much more usable for both individual drive voicings as well as stacked.
I agree. Good pedal, but the protein is better. I’ve had 2 KOTs now, and each time it’s on my board, it’s off in a fortnight and up for sale. Why the hell am I watching this then? 😂
Great demo with the customary high quality playing and analysis. I agree that 4 years or £400+ is not a great choice, however I wouldn't want Analog.Man to increase the output of his business if quality is compromised. Keeping a small in-house set up maintains the sound which people buy the pedal for. It's disappointing when a product goes downhill through greed, mechanisation and mass production. #precbs
I would respectfully disagree somewhat. You're talking about a pedal with a 4 YEAR waiting list. From a business standpoint, there's simply NO WAY Mr. Piera couldn't double his production capacity and cut that list in half. The only reason I can see would have to do with OCD or "control issues". (And I'm not talking about quality control) I will give him props for not cranking up the price, though.
Had my KoT for around 2 years now and I have to say - I agree with every single word you said! Picture me yelling "Yes!" at the screen... Is it a great pedal? Yes! Is the waiting list too long? Yes! Are the used prices crazy? Yes! Will it be worth $3,000 in 10 years? (Er, I hope so!) This is basically the TH-cam video I've secretly been wanting to make ever since I got my pedal...only your video is 100 million times better than I could ever do! The intro track alone was epic!! I also have the high gain red side and I too have some strange tone issues when stacking both sides - not sure what the issue is there, so I never stack them. I seem to recall there's also a "volume multiplier" thing going on when both sides are engaged - it gets crazy loud really easily. It would be kinda cool if Analog Man could do a video on stacking both sides, although I know they are busy building KoTs :) I believe I was a sub back when you posted the first KoT video - wow, what a journey it has been video-wise, hehe! Awesome job, Jackson - keep up the great work!!
Hey Jackson, really enjoying your playing. Good review! I remember you are also a fan of the Hudson Broadcast. I got a Prince of Tone a year or so ago, which follows my Hudson. They have stayed on my pedal board that way for a long time. I really like the open roots sound of the Broadcast and the more middy and slightly compressed POT; they stack really well, HB driving the POT nicely into pinch harmonics. They interact in some clever ways. If you haven’t tried stacking them yet give that a shot. Cheers!
Thanks Mark! Yes I have actually stacked the two. A really great combo! One thing I didn't mention in this video is that I think the KoT is one of the best stacking overdrives out there. Sounds great with almost every other pedal I own
I picked up a Wampler Pantheon as it is a balance of Bluesbreaker (soft clip, open ) and KOT (more crunch and drive). Over time I have been impressed with its flexibility.
Awesome intro and great review. I’m a month away from getting one. If I was was on the list or not the last 4 years would have passed and it was free to get on it. The only thing I would say is when I got on the list I had no pedals, I’ve now got loads so probably don’t need it!
Great demo! I like your perspective on your purchase of the King of Tone pedal. Makes good sense. While I don't own that pedal, I share your opinion of it and I'm sure you can find a similar pedal at about the same price with a much quicker delivery time. And Good Call on your choice of color for your pedal.
Dude, great demo. I'd love to have a King of Tone, but am also very, very happy with a Morning Glory paired with a TS-9. It's a wonderful combination :)
Yep I have others that are more my thing. Plus, I just ordered a used jhs double barrel v4. Like I need another pedal like a hole in my head. #gas bad. Kollmanation 6-8 weeks. Just as good plus more gain and options.
Mine was at the 4 year mark as well. I don’t think they will be producing these much longer. There are a few pedals that do kind-of the same thing and you can diddle with those a bit until yours arrives.
I got on the list Sept. 2017... almost there, very soon. I put it out of mind and checked every so often after Igot on the list. I've collected about 90-ish pedals since, not a huge collection. I'll be very happy when I get it though.
I have three now. A version 2 which I picked up new at the time, before there were any wait lists a version 4, again an early model before the wait lists got out of hand. And recently a 2nd v4 for a small board, which I think was about a 2.5 year wait. My message to anyone who wants one, get on the list. Then get on Ebay and pickup a second hand blues driver, have fun with that and in no time you'll have your KoT. The KoT is one of the best drives out there and it's two pedals in one box. Actual cost from AM is very reasonable for what it is. Dont feed the resellers. In short it's the best drive pedal I've ever used. I use it all the time. I've ABd it to a klon, a ts and a bb and it can get very close to them all but missing the point is that it is an awesome pedal on it's own.
The v2 essentially works like a single side of the v4 but with a switchable volume so you can tap between a rhythm and lead sound, for instance. Like the v4 the two 'sides" can be set up as either clean boost or OD but the difference is subtle. Overall I would say the v2 has slightly less gain too. I often use it when I want a break from my bigger boards and want something more simple.
I've got 3.5 years left on the wait list before they get to my name. Frankly I'm not a giant fan of the sounds it produces but for some strange reason I feel compelled to own one. So on we go. Thankfully I rarely think about it until some days (like this morning) it pops into my head.
4 years wait is reasonable I guess. Say a guitarist started his or her journey today, in 4 years with proper practice and playing, this pedal will come along nicely as the said guitarist will be able to appreciate his/her hard work on the fretboard.
When you are unhappy with the transparent feeling. Did you mess with the internal presence control? We got one king of tone also, and it's really way open when you try it.
@@JacksonBrooksby in our Pedal Station channel we made a comparison between King of Tone and Duellist, obviusly with BB side of it. King of Tone had the presence control a little bit high to pair it with humbuckers and dirty amps (this review is done with a blackface style), and the King of Tone is clearly more opened than Heavy Hand side with Glass Mode On. Just have a look, I see really interesting this presence control for tweak in any guitar or amp you may use.
Lucky enough to have known someone who actually built these pedals, I have one on my board along with a Zendrive 2, and Andy Timmons drive, and an a/c booster. All great pedals but the real test is playing in a band situation were for me the KOT really shines. I have mine set up with Distortion on right and drive on left.
Dope episode!! I like the honesty and the opening jam. I’ll be on the list 4 years in October and I’m feeling the same way you did. I don’t think it will worth the wait. But we shall see. Cheers 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
I have one Joined the list in 2014. Came in late 2016 Tried it once and put it in the pedal cupboard 2019 thought I might sell it Opened up the back and messed with modes, now I like it enough to keep it I only have 2 drive pedals on my board. The other one is a bondi fx sick as. I use the kot to get different tones out of the sick as
I bought a clone of this one, handmade with the specific diodes or something. It's a great sounding pedal but I share your opinion on the tone. It's not as opened as you may except and it has its own flavor. I couldn't have waited for so long and for so much money anyway.
I got a Wampler Pantheon instead, after comparing it with a Prince of Tone. No waiting list and a more versatile pedal with no internal switches. If you want two channels of it you could buy two and it would still be less expensive.
4 years!!! I built a clone one side set as an overdrive the other side heavy overdrive trimmers as pots on the outside sounds great emulates a combo amp well ,works best when both sides are on, yes the pick attack isn''t forgiving but you should get lots of harmonics after the notes are picked
@@LTJR. I went with a pcb by fuzzdog well set out two switches for 9v and 18v.,if you look around you can get the original diodes but modern ,still in production diodes should work fine, ,like the original the gain has to be around 70% for the magic to start and the volume up I think that was an issue with the Boss BB
It's certainly a great pedal from a great company, but it was in a different environment when it released. Klon types are much better for me as boosts, the Protein has a better Bluesbreaker channel and you get a different circuit on the right channel, and the Duellist and Gladio are at least a match for it. Competition is much stiffer now than 10-15 years ago. I'll take the Protein almost every time.
I waited about 2 years (2014 order I think) for my KOT & live it. This little purple box of double joy is always on my board. My advice, place an order & forget about it. Oh, and don’t change your email address! Great video, love the tones from the Tele
I totally share your toughs. I am on the list and had totally forgotten about it (until you posted this! hahahah) I hope that in 3-4 years I can dig some great tones and make my own click-baity video as well ;-) Very tasty playing by the way! Cheers!
How does it compare to the Fredric Effects Blue Monarch? I've been on the waiting list for a KoT since January 2020. To be perfectly honest I've not been fussed since I bought the Blue Monarch, it sorted out the Blues Breaker sound for me.
Ya man I waited 3 years for mine. I received mine in January of 2020. Unfortunately my band of 10 years broke up after 2019. So all I do is play it in my practice room usually to loops. I did take it to a few jams when thing started opening up. I think this pedal works really well with a live band. It really helps my leads cut through. I like the yellow side for low gain vamping. I still play out a lot , but it's all acoustic shows anymore.
I'm in a similar situation to you! Band broke up a few years ago and since then it's mainly been acoustic gigs. Looking forward to taking the KoT to a few band jams though 🤘
The wait list must have ballooned sometime in 2017 and I've been wondering what drove that. I got on the list in March 2017 and got mine after about 2 1/2 years. The fact that, in 2021, he's still shipping to people that got on the list just a few months after me blows my mind! But, I love mine and doubt it will ever leave my board!
By the way, I've never understood the "waiting 4 years for a pedal is dumb" train of thought. It doesn't cost you a dime to get on the list and you don't have to buy it when your name does come up. Also, I sincerely doubt that anyone who gets on the list stops buying pedals while they wait. So its not like the wait caused you to miss out on something else. I got on the list as a lark, not really sure that I would buy it. Now that I have it, I'm so glad I did!
I Can't believe the waiting list is nearly 4 years now. I think Mike is going to have to close off the list for awhile until he catches up. I think you have nailed the flavour of the pedal in your comments though. I was also surprised at the mid hump and compression/choking of the sound. Mine is off my board for the moment as I am very much into transistor based overdrives and fuzzes, but I have no doubt if I want that particular type of sound I will return to it. Is it the new Klon? probably especially from the point of view of collectors. Will I be selling mine? No because I'm a player not a collector, though its nice to know its value is more than I paid for it.
I'm 73 this year so if I put my name down for one I'd have to leave my place on the list to someone in my will! Last year a bought the King of Clone by 68 Pedals and it sounds great. I have no idea how it would compare to a real KOT of course. Nice demo, thanks, I like your playing.
I joined in October 2017...I don’t know if I’m really interested in the pedal anymore, but I can’t waste all this time waiting, so when my turn comes I’ll buy it , I’ll try it and I take it from there...it won’t be difficult to sell it if I don’t like it I guess...
Also on the waiting list since 2019… two more thoughts on the used market: 1) for some countries it‘s actually the only chance to get a KoT, due to strict customs. 2) Used prices went up by almost 100% in the last ~12 months. I hope this is due to the pandemic, but I‘m not fully sure…
Interesting points there Markus. I was expecting to be hit with a huge customs bill when they arrived but I was charged absolutely nothing. I assume I got lucky. And yes I've also seen a massive jump in secondhand prices this year. Madness!
@@JacksonBrooksby There is a number of countries Analogman currently doesn't ship at all - it's not because of fees, but because customs don't allow the product to be imported at all... See also www.buyanalogman.com/help_answer.asp?ID=12#24 Since I'm coming from one of these countries I can just say that's very frustrating, because it makes it really difficult to access pedals from small, non-industrial builders... :-(
I don't like the boost on its own, and I don't like it paired with od much either (unless it is running on 18V), I think you could be onto something with the distortion into od, but I have both sides set od. I have low gain right side od always on into high gain left side od for close to distorted tones, If I want more than that, I have a klone set with gain at 2:30 after the kot and then a jhs rat for even more gain than the kot + klone. Hope something in my rambling was helpful to you? Cheers.
Got mine used about a year about for £380 which I felt was a fair balance against waiting 4 years. I'm almost at the top of the waiting list now as well so may get another. My recommendation is try work out a reasonable a second hand deal while you're on the waiting list, then buy a new one and decide to either cash in on one or keep both. It's not a pedal you lose money on over time so in essence if you have the spare cash it's free to buy one used for a few years
Prices have skyrocketed in the past year, but if you can pick one up for a decent price that's not a bad strategy. Alternatively pick up a price of tone (or two) while you wait.
I've just picked up a golden boy and tbh I really like it but back to back with my KOT it sounds very sterile. Overly processed or produced. It will go on my board for various duties and for its flexibility but ultimately you cant beat the simpliticy and tone that you can feel from the KoT.
@@PaulDatta ha. Not yet, I only found out about them yesterday funnily enough after a random youtube recommendation revealed some 'secret settings'. I will try this weekend though.
I have one with the 4 jacks .... use separate sides only and don’t like it stacked. Great pedal but deffo overhyped. I think I prefer the benson into lightspeed combo
@@JacksonBrooksby oh and regarding stacking of the two sides: if you don’t like the default settings stacked, try boost into drive, which I prefer myself. Not with a KoT, but with klon into bluesbreaker.
Got on top of the list 10 years ago and totally forgot about it. Luckily once on top of the list you stay on top. Just got mine 😄 . It wont make gold from shit, you need to start with a great sound to start from, its very transparent but amp like. Not worth grey market prices though
Only have a few months left to my wait. Also grabbed one on the second hand market five years ago before the prices jumped as high as they are now. It should keep its status as there are millions of guitar players and tens of thousands KOTv4 pedals. Simple supply/demand.
@@JacksonBrooksby Yeah, I have a couple boards. A bigger studio board and a grab and go board. I quite like the KOT for the sounds I aim to get. Also, I won’t shy away that from the fact that I’d be stupid not to see if it needs to become an heirloom pedal for the stupid prices it might fetch later. It is what it is and I don’t make those decisions, but I’ll ride that wave.
What you're saying about both sides together not being a tones you're overjoyed with, is kinda like how I feel about the Protein. But I'm still experimenting with that. And once I figured out the the green side on the protein is best just at breakup, it made linking the blue side better. As to the "KoT", it's a pedal I'll happily give a hard pass too. Thanks for the video!
@@JacksonBrooksby For most people, it probably is. I'm just stating what I prefer, to my taste, which is not hi-gain or overly distorted sounds. The ODR-1 Green side I believe is used at breakup by Nashville players, rather than fully cranked. And it just so happens, that if the Blue side (Bluesbreaker) is at break-up too, I prefer that combined tone, if I had to stack them. The Green goes into the Blue at default settings. But tone knobs on the Protein make a huge difference, so that's another factor to consider, independently and stacking.
Thanks for the video. First, it sounds great with the tele. I have many great OD pedals like the Zendrive, protein, Timmy, The Dude, Archer, Lovepedal…..does this one do anything really better? I doubt it but I never played one. If there is that much demand I really don’t understand why Analogman doesn’t hire up for the demand. It is his decision to make but he is missing out on a lot of sales. I have not put my name on the waiting list as I think its a bit ridiculous. I do have other Analogman pedals like the mini chorus and modded tube screamer - great quality and sounding pedals. If a waiting list ends I will definitely get one.
Fabulous intro track!
Cheers Ben!
Damn that's a big compliment! Cheers Craig
@@JacksonBrooksby It’s interesting, because I had a lot of the same thoughts when I got mine. I thought the red side was a bit tight and nasal, whilst the yellow side was very round sounding.
That sounds really cool actually. I need to play with the modes a bit more
If you're struggling to get a good balance between the two sides vs both on together, try this. Inside set the dip switches to clean boost both sides. Admittedly, yes I can see that this is an overdrive designed to be played in a mix. I bet it cuts through like a bit knife through butter! 😂
I’m glad I went with the Protein. No complaints and had it within a couple weeks! Was always curious how they stack up. Great video!
Protein is still GOAT. Video planned compared and combining most of the best dual overdrives out there
I'd want to throw a Wampler and Jetter Gear dual OD into the mix. Some of the greatest dual ODs come from those two builders.
@@JacksonBrooksby I have both the KOT and the Protein....for my rig and ears, and everyone is different, the protien worked best for me.
Congratulations on the analogman boost/overdrive! Mike makes incredible pedals!
I can't be bothered to use any pedal that doesn't have a readily available backup. Sounds nice, but I'm sticking to the bog standard pedals you can grab at Sam Ash or GC.
That's a fair point absolutely. Probably essential for gigging and touring regularly
Bah!! Give in, the water is warm and comfy 🙏❤️
Cheers David!
It’s a “hard sell” for me too.
Bro your not a fool...you are passionate about your tone Your heart is in it Cheer's
I’ve owned a KoT for about 6 years now and I still have a hard time understanding what the craze is about the pedal. I prefer to go with an OCD and SD-1.
Nice one, Jackson!
As always, great video, explanation, demo and playing.
Cheers for the little mention too. 😻
Thanks Neil!
Que versión es el kot de este vídeo??
@@uzieleliud - hi there. Apologies my French isn't the best. But my version of the KOT is the High gain on the overdrive side which Mike P recommends. It's not high gain though just has a tad bit more drive. I hope that helps.
Hay una versión mejor que está del kot?
Great Maxi-Jingle.. again! Also, thanks for the name check. Kind regards, Dad x
Been on the wait list a little over a year, love some of the colour options - white is killer! Maybe 2023 I'll have one!
White is awesome and the black looks great too. I also love the green
@@JacksonBrooksby black is killer too, looks like the standard purple/gold is the only one with a textured finish from images I've seen?
The black has the textured finish
I also definitely think in the future, the aura surrounding this pedal will be on par with the Klon Centaur as a desirable pedal. Though I think Mike will continue making these as long as humanly possible.
Dec 2017 for me, so not too far away. Looking forward to getting that email!!
Hopefully soon Jason 🤞
Killer video as usual my friend!
Thanks Hondo! 💙
Cheers Steven!
I literally skip every intro but godammn that was so good
Thanks so much!
Skip every intro...be a man
Great video man and awesome intro tune. I enjoy watching your videos a lot. I got mine in the last lockdown about 3 months ago and I love it. Just the box standard one, no higher gain option or anything, I have it on both sides a lot of the time and it's great in the band mix. Keep up the good work!
Cheers - Mark.
Thanks mark! Appreciate that. Glad you're enjoying your KoT
Nice man! I have been on the waitlist 3 years or so now, looking forward to getting mine one day!
I remember watching your early videos, Congrats on the progression and success of your channel!
Thanks man! Long time subscriber right here 🙌🏻
Try the pedal at 18v ... i have an Analogman Prince of Tone... and i can say that the Boost function at 18v is quite nearly worth the price of admission lol.... if you have a scooped amp like a JTM45 ... with mids on the amp set about 10 o'clock .... i doubt youd be less than impressed :-)
I completely forgot you could run this at 18v! Thanks for that, I'll try it
Let me know how it goes :-)
My first time in your channel- I’ll be back. My King Of Tone will be ripped from my cold, dead hands. For me, it is perfect. Both sides on drive, gain at 3 o’clock. Left volume just above unity, right volume at 2-3 o’clock. Left tone set fairly neutral, right tone set a bit brighter. Heaven, whether just on the left or when I kick the right in.
Cheers mate! Welcome. I'll try out those settings
I’ve been on the KOT waiting list since Aug 2020. But more importantly, great guitar playing! Super musical and beautiful phrasing.
I’ve been on it since October 2017 :(
Soon 🤞
Thanks so much!
You make a great point!
Maybe $50
@@JacksonBrooksby I can only hope that mine does too! Thank you for taking the trouble to reply.
@@JC-11111 Analogman are now dealing with orders up to the ninth of October 2017. I ordered mine on 30/10/2017. So near, and yet so far!.
Just got mine an hour ago with these specs and a buffer and true bypass out. Perfect.
@@EshockT Congrats!! :) Excited for you!
I've got a video planned with a few other dual overdrives. Not sure I can get my hands on a Double Barrel before I shoot it but I'll try
Double barrel is very intriguing. I have a Moonshine, and it’s my favorite overdrive currently.
It's ok. A bit too compressed for my tastes.
Protein for the win!
My favourite overdrive. No doubts. I think it is the best drive and the best boost too. In the waiting list for a second KoT.
I’m on the waiting list & yes it’s got to be about 4 years now, kind of given up but if it appears so be it.
Those were my views too. I hope you enjoy it when you finally get it. If you've waited 4 years already then it must nearly be ready
@@JacksonBrooksby I was nov2017 when I got on it
Hopefully soon!
I got on the list June 2017, received it October 2020. Waiting period is just getting longer (18 months when i signed up) but a great pedal!
#precbs
Had the get that hashtag in there 😉 Wise words as always Wilse
(Er, I hope so!)
This is basically the TH-cam video I've secretly been wanting to make ever since I got my pedal...only your video is 100 million times better than I could ever do!
It would be kinda cool if Analog Man could do a video on stacking both sides, although I know they are busy building KoTs :)
I believe I was a sub back when you posted the first KoT video - wow, what a journey it has been video-wise, hehe! Awesome job, Jackson - keep up the great work!!
Haha thank Now What! Long time subscriber over here! 😂💙
I’ve been on the list since Oct 2017. Curious to see how it stacks against my Revivaldrive Compact and Greer Lightspeed.
Thanks Lee! Completely agree with what you're saying there too
Great demo! I like your perspective on your purchase of the King of Tone pedal. Makes good sense. While I don't own that pedal, I share your opinion of it and I'm sure you can find a similar pedal at about the same price with a much quicker delivery time. And Good Call on your choice of color for your pedal.
Thanks man!
Love my Line 6 version.. 😁
#gas bad. Kollmanation 6-8
weeks. Just as good plus more gain and options.
Been on the waiting list for two years. Still looking forward to when my name comes up!
Hang in there bro 💪🏽
Mine was at the 4 year mark as well. I don’t think they will be producing these much longer. There are a few pedals that do kind-of the same thing and you can diddle with those a bit until yours arrives.
I got on the list Sept. 2017... almost there, very soon. I put it out of mind and checked every so often after Igot on the list. I've collected about 90-ish pedals since, not a huge collection. I'll be very happy when I get it though.
Soon 🤞
Thanks for the video
All good points! Thanks for the advice. How does the version 2 differ?
The v2 essentially works like a single side of the v4 but with a switchable volume so you can tap between a rhythm and lead sound, for instance. Like the v4 the two 'sides" can be set up as either clean boost or OD but the difference is subtle. Overall I would say the v2 has slightly less gain too. I often use it when I want a break from my bigger boards and want something more simple.
Ps. I forgot to say, great video! Very informative, non biased and fantastic tones.
Cheers Chris!
What year is the Tele? looks cool with the sunburst underneath the refinish.
Roughly a 2006 American Standard. I did all the paint myself… it looks much better at a distance 😉
I like this way of looking at it a lot!
Actually i think the same as a beginner guitarist who started 1 year ago i've just entered the wait list
@@emrickbertrand4298 I am certain the wait is worthwhile as you grow as a guitarist.
What if you’re not a beginner and a pedal addict? I bought other stuff instead.
Boost side set gain to about 4 o clock. Nice gritty OD sound. And matches well with the gain side for a high gain sound. 3 sounds all in one pedal
I'll try that out!
it really is a SUPERB musical sound!
The defacto standard even for country music. Nice review!
Got one on the used market before the prices got... ridiculous... no regrets... tried taking ot off my board... always gets back on... great pedal!
When you are unhappy with the transparent feeling. Did you mess with the internal presence control? We got one king of tone also, and it's really way open when you try it.
I need to play around with some of internal controls. I'll admit I haven't tweaked any of them yet
I'll check it out!
Yes! Presence control!!!
Very cool! I can imagine the raw tones in the KoT cut through a mix really well
On my third KoT right now (sold two), and also on the waiting list. Will be a nice surprise in 2025.
Dope episode!! I like the honesty and the opening jam. I’ll be on the list 4 years in October and I’m feeling the same way you did. I don’t think it will worth the wait. But we shall see. Cheers 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
Thanks so much! I hope you enjoy it when it arrives
I have one
Joined the list in 2014. Came in late 2016
Tried it once and put it in the pedal cupboard
2019 thought I might sell it
Opened up the back and messed with modes, now I like it enough to keep it
I only have 2 drive pedals on my board. The other one is a bondi fx sick as. I use the kot to get different tones out of the sick as
How did you get a white one? Looks better than the standard purple.
There's a few options of colours when you order nowadays
I got on the waiting list this past January. 2024 here we come! 😅😅 definitely sounds worth the wait though 🤘
I bought a clone of this one, handmade with the specific diodes or something. It's a great sounding pedal but I share your opinion on the tone. It's not as opened as you may except and it has its own flavor. I couldn't have waited for so long and for so much money anyway.
Nice playing, nice tone, nice guitars...🎸🤘🏻🇫🇷
I got a Wampler Pantheon instead, after comparing it with a Prince of Tone. No waiting list and a more versatile pedal with no internal switches. If you want two channels of it you could buy two and it would still be less expensive.
Infamous? I've never heard a bad word said against it.
4 years!!! I built a clone one side set as an overdrive the other side heavy overdrive trimmers as pots on the outside sounds great emulates a combo amp well ,works best when both sides are on, yes the pick attack isn''t forgiving but you should get lots of harmonics after the notes are picked
Cool that’s always been my suggestion. Did you go with tag board effects or?
@@LTJR. I went with a pcb by fuzzdog well set out two switches for 9v and 18v.,if you look around you can get the original diodes but modern ,still in production diodes should work fine, ,like the original the gain has to be around 70% for the magic to start and the volume up I think that was an issue with the Boss BB
Did you pick white? I'm on the list.
Yes I did. You get the option of a few colours when ordering
All very good points!
I waited about 2 years (2014 order I think) for my KOT & live it. This little purple box of double joy is always on my board. My advice, place an order & forget about it. Oh, and don’t change your email address! Great video, love the tones from the Tele
Hahaha good tip!
I totally share your toughs. I am on the list and had totally forgotten about it (until you posted this! hahahah) I hope that in 3-4 years I can dig some great tones and make my own click-baity video as well ;-) Very tasty playing by the way! Cheers!
Looking forward to it 😉
How does it compare to the Fredric Effects Blue Monarch?
I've been on the waiting list for a KoT since January 2020. To be perfectly honest I've not been fussed since I bought the Blue Monarch, it sorted out the Blues Breaker sound for me.
The Blue Monarch is one of the best "clones" of the KoT I've played. You just need two of them to get the same flexibility as a KoT!
@@JacksonBrooksby I've definitely considered it!
When I think of "boutique pedal" the KoT is the first example I think of.
I think that's the same for a lot of people! Me too
There are so many nice overdrives. It matters more what you're playing. Boss Od3 is perfect 🌴
My thoughts exactly too! Cheers Peter
I'm 73 this year so if I put my name down for one I'd have to leave my place on the list to someone in my will! Last year a bought the King of Clone by 68 Pedals and it sounds great. I have no idea how it would compare to a real KOT of course. Nice demo, thanks, I like your playing.
Thanks! There are some great clones out there too
Great work here 🔥
Thanks!
Awesome vid, could you compare this OD with other classics like the Boss OD3 or Ibanez TS9?
I am going to do a big drive comparison video soon
@@JacksonBrooksby definitely looking forward to that. BTW I’m still perplexed that we literally lived in the same building and never met each other
Whaaaaaaattttt?!? 😂
@@JacksonBrooksby Manchester's a small place 😂
I joined in October 2017...I don’t know if I’m really interested in the pedal anymore, but I can’t waste all this time waiting, so when my turn comes I’ll buy it , I’ll try it and I take it from there...it won’t be difficult to sell it if I don’t like it I guess...
My thoughts exactly
See also www.buyanalogman.com/help_answer.asp?ID=12#24
Since I'm coming from one of these countries I can just say that's very frustrating, because it makes it really difficult to access pedals from small, non-industrial builders... :-(
I'm sorry to hear that Markus! I actually didn't realise that was the case 😩
Cheers.
Very useful! I will try that out. Klone before the KoT sounds amazing though
Totally forgot I was on the KoT wait list (Nov 2018) until I saw this vid 😂 Let us know how you end up dialling it in??
Same here Jan 2020 hahahahahahahahahaha.
September 2018. Every now and then I remember I'm on it.
March 2019. Kind of forget you're waiting
at top of list- thinking i'm gonna bail-- i like the j rockett pedals now
Got mine used about a year about for £380 which I felt was a fair balance against waiting 4 years.
I’m 62 months and counting as of 10/12/23. They’re making pedals ordered on or before 5/7/18. I ordered mine 8/08/18. Getting closer. Thanks nice work
5 years and 9 months for me! As of today my kot should be here Saturday.
Best overdrive I’ve ever heard.
Lovely video. Please compare this with the magenta mode of the Jackson Audio Golden Boy.
I'd love to try the Golden Boy! One day
I've just picked up a golden boy and tbh I really like it but back to back with my KOT it sounds very sterile. Overly processed or produced. It will go on my board for various duties and for its flexibility but ultimately you cant beat the simpliticy and tone that you can feel from the KoT.
@@chr15tree did you experiment with the GB’s internal trim pots and cut some presence? I’ve never played a KOT and appreciate your feedback.
@@PaulDatta ha. Not yet, I only found out about them yesterday funnily enough after a random youtube recommendation revealed some 'secret settings'. I will try this weekend though.
@@chr15tree the Jackson audio TH-cam channel has a video that goes into those trim pots in some detail. There are two - tone and presence.
Sorry for the dumb question...but when did you get on the list? I got on about 4 yrs ago as well and now I really got the itch
Not a dumb question mate. I got on the list July 2017. Hopefully yours is ready soon
I have one with the 4 jacks .... use separate sides only and don’t like it stacked. Great pedal but deffo overhyped. I think I prefer the benson into lightspeed combo
Which month in 2017 did you enter the wait list, if I may ask? I joined the Party in Nov. 2017 and I kinda lost hope.
July. Stick with it!
@@JacksonBrooksby ok, so that’s another 5 months real time for me. That equals 20 months covid KoT waitlist.
@@JacksonBrooksby oh and regarding stacking of the two sides: if you don’t like the default settings stacked, try boost into drive, which I prefer myself. Not with a KoT, but with klon into bluesbreaker.
Cheers! I will try that
Got on top of the list 10 years ago and totally forgot about it. Luckily once on top of the list you stay on top. Just got mine 😄 . It wont make gold from shit, you need to start with a great sound to start from, its very transparent but amp like. Not worth grey market prices though
Haha nice!
Only have a few months left to my wait. Also grabbed one on the second hand market five years ago before the prices jumped as high as they are now. It should keep its status as there are millions of guitar players and tens of thousands KOTv4 pedals. Simple supply/demand.
Agreed Matt. Will you keep both when the second arrives?
@@JacksonBrooksby Yeah, I have a couple boards. A bigger studio board and a grab and go board. I quite like the KOT for the sounds I aim to get. Also, I won’t shy away that from the fact that I’d be stupid not to see if it needs to become an heirloom pedal for the stupid prices it might fetch later. It is what it is and I don’t make those decisions, but I’ll ride that wave.
Girl, put your records on :) Sounds so good there in the boost tones section. Cool pedal and demo my dude.
Good ear! Different key, time signature and feel and you still recognised it 😂 I need to work harder
when did they start making them in white? I have two of them and they're dark maroon or something like that.
There are a few different colour options when you order nowadays
What you're saying about both sides together not being a tones you're overjoyed with, is kinda like how I feel about the Protein. But I'm still experimenting with that. And once I figured out the the green side on the protein is best just at breakup, it made linking the blue side better. As to the "KoT", it's a pedal I'll happily give a hard pass too. Thanks for the video!
Interesting! I've always thought the stacked sound of the protein was one of its strongest suits. I'll try out using the green side lower gain though!
Awesome Video👌i like the Protein more but the king is great too.
No I wouldn't say this does anything "better" than those drives. It's just different. Personally I still love the Protein over this
