    I appreciate your video. It’s helpful to me. I inherited a potted goji plant when my sister passed. Did not know it had thorns & got royally stabbed. Ugh. It’s not doing too badly. I pulled it out & trimmed some roots. There were 4 or 5 huge rocks in the bottom. Surprise! Anyway I’m having fun eating the berries & will try them dried since you mention that. To me they taste like tomato when ripe.

      When they are young the thorns are hard to feel and notice. Once they start to thicken up the thorns get larger and sharper. Ouch.... 😆

    The leaves from the Gojii berry/ Wolf berry are also edible. A green soup;)

    Do you think I can grow gojis in Costa Rica on the Caribbean side, our temperature range here is 75-95 degrees year round, thanks.

    • @Pepesplants
      @Pepesplants  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maybe. The heavy rain and high heat and humidity you have. (I am guessing it rains all the time in Costa Rica.) So the rain is a concern. They need very good drainage and some cool nights. We do have some cool nights in December and January. I keep them in a sunny spot with well drained soil and get two-three nice crops a year. I now have a better larger sized variety. We shall see if it is as productive all year here. Stay tuned more information soon. Thanks for visiting my channel. Working on more videos for 2017. Happy New Year!!

      Different species of Lycium are native to various regions around the world. Some are adapted to more moist environments. You my want to check to see if there is an edible species native to your region before you try to grow a Lycium from a different climate. There are species native to Hawaii, and the Gulf states of the USA that would probably do better in your area than Lycium barbarum. The plants are known as wolfberry or matrimony vines in many areas, or boxthorn, but make sure you are dealing with a Lycium species, and make sure the Lycium species you find has edible berries and/or leaves.

    The gogi berry plant is 3 months old in full son, which I water when dry.
    The stems are about 2 1/2 feet tall but, no flowers yet. I live in Houston TX. Is this normal and what can I do to speed up the process?
    Can you please help.
    Thanks so much for your knowledge and help.

      3 months old and 2.f feet tall? Goji plants take about 1 or two years to mature if seed grown. That one is pretty tall for a 3 month Goji. Guess you grew from a cutting or bought one that was from a cutting as opposed to a seed grown Goji. A cutting is generally mature and of a good fruiting variety. Full sun and use organic tomato fertilizer. Keep just a little moist and remember you do need some cool weather at least a few nights of 40 degrees average chill hours. Hope that helps.

      In Houston it doesn't get to 40 degrees at night.
      I will definitely get the tomato fertilizer today. Yes, it is from a graft. The stems are about 2 1/2 feet tall and, they're about 10 to 12 stems. Should I do the pruning now and, how can I transplant the stems I take out?
      By the way, how much fertilizer should I use and how often?
      Thank you so much for your reply and helpful knowledge.

      Neil, it is best to let that plant grow for about a year before pruning. One year old plant. Prune it in the winter when it should be dormant. Light summer pruning in the second year. I will see if I can do a video soon on pruning Goji. Take care.

    Mine always fall over to the side after they are about half an inch tall
    then die. Please advise what to do for this problem. Thanks.

      Are they seed grown?

    • @Pepesplants
      @Pepesplants  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Of course a half inch tall. They are seed grown then. Are you over watering them? Easy on water. Sometimes birds will trample them. Place a mesh cover over them and keep in bright shade. The filtered light will help.

      Hi. Thank you for reply. I grew from seeds I took from dried goji berries I bought at the Chinese grocery store. I have them indoors, so no birds. I do water a lot so maybe it is over watering. I might try to grow some more from seeds and not water as much. Thank you.

      Probably damp off. Mix 1 tsp 3% hydrogen peroxide to 2 cups of water when watering or use a spicy strong tea. Try to water your plants from underneath. Make sure you get all the pulp off the seeds before planting.

    thumbed down as Im feeling frustrated as ive watched about 7 different youtube videos now trying to find out how long at most goji takes to germinate. (I have had seeds in a pot for a month and they havent geminated and i dont know if they are no good or what). You mention on this video to check out your previous video for more info on growing this from seeds so Ive been looking throu all your videos (you have a lot,) looking for the previous one and couldnt find it. It would of been great had you included the link to your other.

      They germinate fast a few days sometimes but no more than a week if the temperatures are nice and warm. Don't plant too deeply. Just a little below the surface. Place in a shady spot and keep moist not soak n wet. Try again it will work! Water the soil first and then plant the seed. Birds like to go in and mess with them too so be careful. Take care.

      To check and see if the seeds are any good you usually do a damp paper towel test or water test. Damp off can get your seedlings before they break the soil see my post above. www.hortmag.com/weekly-tips/propagation/how-to-know-if-garden-seed-is-viable
