Feb 1 - March 5 That's sun low in the sky time = warm light spectrum. Also happens in autumn. Why they fruit at those times. Also how you get long day and short day crops. I get that's kinda advanced for the average hobby gardener though.
One thing i've always wondered about, can you graft dragon fruit cactus to other cactus especies? cause there are other cactus especies that grow vertical trunks way easier, so they could be coupled to make a dragon fruit tree without support, like a sawaro as the "trunk" or others.
Lol forreal! It looked like a cartoon face from a distance when the logo is small. It wasn’t until i went on the home page of the channel I realized the “eyes” are the “e” and “g” 😅.
My dragonfruit journey began during the pandemic. We bought a colombiana fruit from a local farmer and was absolutely blown away by how sweet it was. I saved some seeds and germinated some in some water. Ended up with about 100 seedlings😂🤦🏽♂️ I grew stuff but not to the level that I am now. From veggies, to dragonfruit, to fruit trees, to kratky hydroponics, etc. Any old food safe container has a plant in it😂 My wife thinks I’m nuts. But she doesn’t complain when she take a scoop of a juicy sweet dragonfruit right from the yard. Or veggies. The taste difference is just ridiculous. Not even close. Nowadays, I am just addicted to gardening. My friends and family miss me😂

What an inspiring journey you’ve had with dragonfruit and gardening! It’s amazing how a simple purchase can spark such a passion. Growing your own fruits and veggies definitely makes a huge difference in taste. Do you have any tips for beginners who want to start their own gardening journey? @@fromfieldtofork Aloha🤙🏼🙏🏼 Don’t really have any tips except to have patience. Gardening helps with patience. How can “growing food” be a crazy thing. Insane to me. But that’s the materialistic world we live in right?? Most of society are so caught up in grocery stores, fast food, etc. that growing food seems weird and not cool I guess. AWESOME! As you know, almost every video labelled "complete growing guide" on youtube just shows you how to plant something (usually seeds). Planting stuff is the easy part. I want to know how to take care of it afterwards! Your videos are so good at showing that. You know.... the important part! Thanks!
Hey, one way to find out! 😂 But in all seriousness, there is a safe way to find if plants are edible. Start by breaking it open and putting the juice onto a soft spot of your skin, like the wrist or elbow. If there’s a reaction, instantly that’s a no plant. Next step is a small taste of the juice. Wait at least 24 hours between each step. Basically take small steps like this with the food, trying it in different ways until you feel confident. I’d bet you probably can especially cooked up like nopales. This is how I was taught to try foods in a survival situation.
My wife's friend passed on a puny little dragonfruit start for me several years ago. That thing did nothing until I transplanted it into a bigger pot with fresh soil and really took off. I moved it inside to protect it during the cooler months, watching it develop. Then one of the cats ate it. I tried finding a new plant, but nobody in the area sold one, not even the "exotic" plant guy. I have some dried seeds, so I'll try again that way.
I have heard that the stems of those grafted cacti (green stem with brightly colored top) are actually dragonfruit. They TH-camr I watched bought some at the dollar store, pulled the top graft off, and grew the stem into a blooming dragonfruit.
Tool Care: If you have tools with rust, the best and easies way to restore them is dip them in white vinegar for an hour or so depending on how much rust it has depends on how long to dipped them then use a wire brush to remove the rust Thank you guys for charing your knowledge
I'm really glad you threw everything into one video! I've got an unknown variety of dragonfruit that a neighbor had set out on the curb with a "Free" sign on it. I nursed it back to health and now it's gone crazy with side shoots (although it's starting to grow out thru the top of the trellis). Guess I know what I'll be pruning tomorrow! Thanks

We live in sunny Spain now but in the middle of Valencia and miss our garden. Or just do the flowers. Thanks.
Great video, thank you. Please can you provide more information on fertilizer quantity and type for Dragon Fruit cuttings that have rooted and have reached 2 feet in height?
I grew some dragonfruit from seeds from store bought fruit. It's going slow and a lot of the seedlings were lost along the way. Year 3 and my biggest is about a ft tall but I don't get enough sun throughout the day for faster growth.
My Mom in Clairemont has a huge dragon fruit crawling up a dead maple tree...is has fruit that chandeliers off the tree...she does literally nothing and the thing grows like a weed and drops fruit like crazy

The store bought ones are normally pretty bland , maybe it's because they harvest early to be exporting out.. I now have several hundred 'babies'. The sad part, I'm excited about it! Some of them are starting to push out a stem between the 2 baby leaves.

I'm watching your video, & your Drangonfruit don't seem to have any spike on them. My two plants (no idea what kind) bought them on Craigslist. Mine have massive cactus-like spikes, making them difficult to work with. Excellent video so far, shared with my sister, neither of us have successfully produced fruit yet.
I also want to know about zones. What zone are you in, California right? I’m in central Texas so 8b. Do I need to plan on moving my plant indoors in November, bring back out in March? This video assumes we are all in your same zone.
I've got a dark star variety dragonfruit growing - I started it from cuttings at the beginning of October 2023 and it produced its first fruit 6 months later. I notice you said that the flower will open up in 30 to 35 days. Well, from my own experience with my dragonfruit plant, it took 2 weeks for the buds to fully open up. To be specific, I first noticed the bud on March 27th. It fully opened and was pollinated on April 10th. I harvested it on May 13th. So, 2 weeks to bloom, and 5 weeks or so until harvest. I don't know if the variety has anything to do with that.
Dragon fruit??? This fruit is native from America, Mexico and South America and its name is Pitaya or Pitahaya. Also Tuna. “Vietnam white” come on these guys are trying to steal the fruit’s real identity
How much watering you do: for cuttings vs rooted plants (frequency and amount and timing - winter vs summer) and same for fertilizing schedule and type of fertilizer? Thanks for your instructions.
One thing that has worked for me when rooting dragonfruit cutting is I’ll take a cutting and then just put it off to the side where it can be cool, dry and away from the sun. Eventually it’ll sprout some root initials and I’ll plant it

So may be a silly question but haven't seen it answered yet - can/should you remove the thorns? Have just started with our 1st that we got from Lowes here in SW Florida and it's ready to be moved into 2 seperate and bigger pots but the thorns are intimidating.
I have 18 dragon fruit in my indoor grow because of you!!! Ive watched the entire video serie and have some knowledge about it. My question is: could I grow them even in the Czech republic? I know it’s not the best climate but my idea is that I’d move the plant out the house when it’s hot outside and keep it inside during autumn and winter.
I think my dragon fruit hates me lol. Its a bit yellow and over a year old. No where close to that much growth. I should probably fertilize it heavily with some blood meal...
I don’t remember hearing anything about how much or how often to water them. I’m in SoCal and overwatered one recently and killed it. How often do I water one that I have in a pot?

So now I want to grow dragon fruit! I have an affinity for indoor tropical and cacti. This just seems like the right next step! I live in Ontario canada 6b. Are there any special considerations for indoor over wintering and shorter outdoor season that you and Richard can suggest?
My trellis is tipping just like yours. I noticed you didn't address that. It's a design flaw that needs to be fixed. Mine are really bad. Not sure what to do to fix it.
I have a dragonfruit plant that seems to be growing well. But I’ve yet to see any flowers or fruit. Is there a way that I can send a picture for you to see and maybe tell me what I’m doing wrong?
Mine seems stumped. I'm in SC and it grew well inside until it got too big and I tried introducing it outside and I think it got burned and now there are aerial roots but nothing else.
Thanks to Richard from youtube.com/@GraftingDragonFruit for stopping by the Epic Homestead to drop his knowledge for you!
