Most people don't know this, but almost the entire set was pink. It photographed better in black and white.
It really was a velvet ruby red. It's just that many of the color photos are faded.

That is because that is actually called twostrip color because that was the only way to get color on tv mostly cartoons because it was cheap and in some live action shows with a huge budget because live action with twostip is very expensive
so just like the original George Reeves superman suit was brown and pink.

I always wondered how uncle Fester was related to the family. In this era it’s implied he’s Gomez’ uncle and the kids’ great uncle, but in the films with Christopher Lloyd he’s Gomez’ brother. It’s possible that in this era he was much older even than the grandmother and was just keeping himself alive artificially. It is implied here that he runs on electricity and uses preservatives on his skin. We are also told that what’s under his coat is a big mystery. Gives you a lot to imagine.

If I recall correctly in a flashback episode (detailing the events leading up to Morticia’s wedding), Morticia referred to Fester as her Uncle Fester. Morticia’s maiden name was Frump, and that was Fester’s surname as well. I don’t remember the name of that episode.

@@thomasparsons4871 it kinda got ridiculous, he is Morticia's uncle here, in the movies he becomes Gomez's older brother, in the 1990's remake series he becomes Gomez's YOUNGER brother... Lol totally loses that elder role in the family and becomes like a demented 20 something year old

@@hayleyzefox610 lots of shows that continued were televised in black and white. black and white tvs were still being made in the US up till the 1990s.
interviews with the cast and people involved in the production state they figured a 3rd season in color was coming. no reason for the cancelation was stated.
@@toomanyaccounts The commonly held belief was that as The Munsters were dropping in the ratings the studio assumed the public were getting bored of ghoulish families and dropped The Addams. Completely ignoring the fact that the former were failing because people preferred the latter.
@@chrisparkes2179 except neither were dropping in the ratings. both were steady and as syndication, merchandising proved both were popular. they had differences in what made the families appealing but they were far better shows then most of the stuff today

I am a diehard Addams fan. Because they started releasing I Love Lucy and Shirley Temple films and tons of other classics in colour, I am DYING for them to start releasing the Addams Family in colour!! They shouldn't be ignored, it was an incredibly popular show that lead to movies, a remake series, a musical, etc. what foundation or company or whatever do we contact or request to make this happen??

I always thought Morticia would be cutting black roses in the opening given the gothic thing, but cutting yellow (or other bright colours) makes so much more sense to me.

The Adams family is amazing, with or without color.
Actually i think it works a lot better in black & white, especially with the "tricks" the crew made like having the rooms painted in pink/red since that looked better in B/W. It just fitted the whole atmosphere and tone better than color

They made the whole song. It had the beginning too, but it had different colors
This is not the complete opening. It's missing the "Neat, sweet, petite" remarks and the 2nd verse "So get a witch's shawl on, A broomstick you can crawl on, We're gonna pay a call on, The Addams Family, (snap, snap)."

Had the show been picked up for the 1966-67 lineup, it would have been shot in color, as that was the first year all prime time shows on the three networks were in color.

The Color Doesn't Look Too Bad It Doesn't Look Blochy-Looking
I mean when a 3rd season was going to be in colour before it's cancellation... Yeah
I imagine that the set would need some work to remove the dark pink walls(similar reason to why the blood from *that scene* in Psycho was actually Chocolate Syrup: appeared better in Black and White, in the walls case it was because of contrast, and in the blood case, the fake blood appeared too bright and Chocolate Syrup was what they eventually decided on having tested several alternatives)
