You get used to it after some time. After you’ve killed your first man, you're not you anymore. You'll never be you again. After days of never ending combat, you realize that it was you pulling that trigger, and that it was you doing so all along.

Due to his lack luster performance in the latter rounds. Upon losing Friedrich is Stripped of his uniform and expelled. Forced to walk home in a snowstorm. This ultimately saves him from going into combat. Thus saving his life whilst so many graduates lost theirs in combat. One could say those graduates with twisted ideological beliefs. Once in combat they would be shown no mercy by the Allied troups. The German S.S troops also were shown no mercy by Allied troops. Due to the attrosoties committed during combat. 💪🏻

apparently the writers of the movie didn't know (or chose to ignore) that Hitler was very anti evolution. Darwin's book was the first of the books burned and teaching of the theory was outlawed once Hitler had as much control over Germany as is depicted in this movie.
Although I watch a lot of different movies, I never knew this one existed and may have never watched this movie. Thanks to these recaps, I am open to even more movies than before.

The recurring problem of cartoonish one-dimensionality that plagues the portrayal of Nazis in films is one that comes to define this film as a set of trite clichés and desperate attempts to distance the film-makers from the Nazis, by trying to make them as repellant as possible. It’s as if the film-makers are scared that by portraying just one Nazi sympathetically - perhaps as a victim of circumstance, or as a captive of his ideals - then they open themselves to accusations of Nazi leanings. A story of a Nazi torn between his political beliefs and his morals would be a much more interesting film, and would be a more worthy addition to the Nazi canon than yet another dull boxing film. He eventually fights his way out of repression, with emotional strength, but then you knew that anyway.

The ending credits literally claim that many of them were blinded by the extremist ideals. Also, he didn't fight his way out of repression, he lost after being distracted by his friend's father and then got expelled for losing.

I understand why Nazis are potrayed as pure evil in modern media, however that doesn't prepare future generations against similar situations at all because it's not going to be plain obvious like in literally any Nazi movie. To me it feels like people are much more comfortable patting themself on the back rather than trying to put their hands on something difficult. Example for a Nazi movie idea: Don't tell the viewer that they are Nazis. Make them look good and recreate the original appeal that captivated an entire nation. Have them look like the victims and have the viewer root for them. In the end they win and the viewer is made aware that they are actually the bad guys. Sprinkle hints about them being Nazis throughout the movie but make it so that these metaphors / hints only become obvious as soon as you know they weren't the good guys. Make the reveal at the end obvious by showing their flag for the first time or something.
It's common to portray every German Nazi official or supporter as a stereotype and forget that these people were still human and most of them was nothing like this sociophatic morons who enjoyed genocide. What strikes the most, and gets me really worried, is that by dehumaninzing these people and portraying this extreme aphatic and monochromic portrayal of the Nazi system from wich you can easily distance yourself from, you're doing a great disservice to nowadays societies. Nazi ideals and leadership were charismatic, relatable - it preyed upon people's insecurities, anger, on it's revolt with the social and politic injustices and economical collapse Germany was in. Facists ideals are a call for high morals, for justice, for stabillity, for security, it speakes to your fears and your angers and gives your something or someone to blame for. It can be subtle, but above all - it's empowering - and if we can't recognize it's tools today, we may fall prey for it's rally. Facists ideals are all over the world. Greece, of all places, has been dancing with this devil for quite some time; I live in Brazil - we sufferd a coup. Now we have a facist president who threatens democracy every week and walks over our constitution, alwell as being responsible for indigenous genocide and funding a campaign agains vaccines (who also killed THOUSANDS). It all started in 2013, in the midst of anti-corruption movements, and suddenly half the country supports the most absurd nazi thoughts! Fascism thrives amid crisis, doubt, and fear. Let us be attentive to its signs.
I love these types of stories. It humanizes society’s and the people in those society. Its like that in asian culture ... literally school hierarchy exists like this to where seniors treat the lower class freshmens like dogs.
