The Winger journey from 1988 to 1993 together for the first time in these exclusive box sets, Featuring the only remasters endorsed by Kip Winger. For those who've previously invested in the vinyl or CD versions, note that this set doesn't offer additional bonus tracks. Instead, the highlight is the "Demo Anthology", although these tracks were also part of the 2007 Frontiers compilation, likely owned by die-hard fans.
Do these remasters outshine the original CDs? They might.
The debut album, in particular, boasts a richer bass compared to its predecessor. However, the difference from the Rock Candy reissues (2014), which included bonus tracks and sleeve notes, is minimal. Notably, Ted Jensen was the mastermind behind the original releases' mastering.

Thank you for taking the time to review this box set. I really appreciate it. I'll try to answer all the questions I'm seeing in the comment section.
First off, yes, I'm the one who put this box set together at the suggestion of my buddy and well known manager Larry Mazer. I did make a point to recruit Ted Jensen who Mastered all of these originally, that was a must. And yes, It's the only re-master I've ever approved.
I too am bummed the booklet (which I personally spent a lot of time on) didn’t make it into the CD version, if fact, I was not even informed that this was coming out on CD! If I had known that I would have insisted on including the booklet in the CD version. So to anyone wondering, when I put this together, my sole intention was only a vinyl box set.
Regarding “bonus” cuts. It was my call not to include them for two reasons. 1. In my mind those songs didn’t make the records for a reason.
The records as they stand in the box set are what my intentions were for all three records. Bonus cuts became a thing back in the day when bands
had leftover material and someone decided to “market” it as a bonus, Simple fact is (in our case anyway) those songs were not as good and didn’t
sit well in the records artistically. 2. Adding more tracks reduces the quality of the sound of the vinyl.
Regarding the Demos, Yes there were previously release in the demo anthology, but I felt in this case as a historical item, it was interesting to include a selection of the demos to show the progression from demo to album. In some cases I like aspects of the demos better.
And to all the haters who think I’m “ripping you off” ..F**k off.. I didn’t do this for the money.

I am one of those who is glad this came out on CD as thats my preferred format but it is a shame the booklet is not included as you intended. Nevertheless I am so glad I have the CD boxset. It’s a wonderful set. Your band are superb and your music is awesome. Seven was one of my favourite albums of 2023 too, its great to see Winger get the credit and acclaim you have long deserved.

Oh I got that CD autographed by the whole band. I have photos too !! Best time of my life , the 80s. I met poison skid row winger warrant Tesla Bonham 38 special.. I need gnr , and motley Crue to finish my set 😁
Here in Brazil, the CD stores closed, and record companies have now made it difficult to obtain good physical material!

The two main record labels specializing in the style here in Brazil, Hellion Records and Shinigami Records, have been working with increasingly smaller pressings of their releases for some time now. Currently, the CDs released by both here in the country have standard runs of 300 units.

If it's any consolation, it's the same here in the UK - our biggest CD retailer, HMV, has closed a lot of its stores and now has very small CD selections in store. They seem to want to sell more t-shirts and fat-headed plastic dollies to the kids rather than music.
I buy from small independent and second hand stores here in the UK. But I usually buy online. Yes from Amazon, and direct from bands, Discogs sellers, and direct from Rock Candy and Cherry Red for some things for example.
@@jimmycampbell78 I try to avoid Amazon as much as possible and go to the direct web sites of eBay first - especially as Amazon seem to be putting up their prices far more than anyone else at the moment.
But ultimately Amazon does have pretty much everything so they do end up being the "default" option in the end.

Winger is the only 80s Band that’s seemed to get better at as Musicians and Songwriters !

A must buy for fans of 80s Hard Rock. Winger's brand of Hard Rock has elements of Prog and AOR which gives them an unique, easily recognisable sound. Kip Winger is prob one of the most underrated songwriters out there. Its insane that there are still some people who dismiss them with silly derisive terms like "hair band" or hate them just bcs of Beavis and Butthead. Anyway their new album kicks ass and they continue to put out great music 🎸🎸🎸

Great job Phil. I do not own this, but do own their entire discography ( studio albums) in CD 💿 form. I feel WINGERS musicians are all under the radar: never get proper credit. IMO. They think get a bad rap. Their 9️⃣3️⃣ PULL is my personal favorite. Thorough job @ unboxing “. Thanks. Phil 👍💯

Hello Mr Aston. Winger. My very first cd I have ever bouth and with extra bonus track. I agree with you about Pull album, the best from these guys. It's a real shame not including Higher and Higher by the way that was the first thing I notice on the unboxing. Why no additional tracks, b sides, for example Battle Stations from Bill and Ted's bogus journey. But well, great to hear from this band classic albums and one more from Ted Jensen. Wish you the best, rock on! 🤘

I did have the Rock Candy Records reissues, but i sold those. I already have the Ratt, Dokken, Motley Crue, and Skid Row sets. So, I want this. The selling point is reading on Blabbermouth saying that Kip supervised these, and that these are the only remasters that he'll endorse. There's no booklet in the digipacks? The Crue and Skid Row cd sets had a small booklet in the digipacks. The Ratt cds had the credits on the spins.
Any reason you wanted to sell the RC re-issues?

It's a mystery for my why they don't include the booklet in the cd box set, the same with the Ratt one.
I would have liked a live album insted of a demos disc, such as the Live In Tokyo 1991 concert that was released on VHS only in Japan that it''s a terrific concert.

It won't be as BMG don't tend to release love albums in their box sets.
Winger weren’t signed to BMG after Pull so it will be interesting to see if we actually get a Chapter 2. Hope so.

Great video! I am one where I purchased this box set solely because my first vinyl (S/T has a skip)... The bonus vinyl of Demos has already been released as a DOUBLE CD... so we're only getting HALF of the tunes on this vinyl.... I still think this is a missed opportunity for the bonus tracks as I counted 8 songs that could have been on that 4th vinyl, instead of the demo one (If you compare it to the new Van Halen box set of the Sammy era)... I am also "hoping" that Chapter One means there will be a Chapter TWO one day... BONUS TRACKS MISSING: Battle Stations (Bill & Ted Bogus Journey sdtk), Higher and Higher (Original CD bonus), Never (Rock Candy reissue of the S/T CD bonus), All I Ever Wanted (ITHOTY Rock Candy reissue bonus), On the Inside (GH re-recorded from the Pull sessions), Hell to Pay (Japan CD Bonus which was on the GH), Out for the Count (Karate Kid II sdtk), Silent Night (video appearing on the ITHOTY VHS)... my 2 cents... :)

All i wanted is for the glam bands reissues this year to be sold separately.I was waiting so many years for my favorite bands to release reissues because im a young fan.And all suddenly 2023 one shit all of them bam!wasp ratt dokken motley crue winger😂i can’t afford that.I only got motley because last year before the box set they sold the albums also separated
I totally understand where you are coming from. In days of old record labels used to think around a fans potential cash flow and plane release so they did not clash, It does appear like everything is coming at once and all limited editions as well!
Just because it says Chapter One, doesn't necessarily mean there will be a second box set. I just took it to mean it was Chapter One of their career. They aren't releasing vol 2 of any of the bands they've released so far.

Maybe the very limited releases on vinyl of the last few albums, apart from Seven, will lead to demand for a vinyl version at least of chapter two. Four albums that would make an outstanding box set probably fans would want as much if not more than chapter one.
Also just wondering if you’ll be reviewing the new fabulous Van Halen The Collection II box set? Finally the Sammy era got remastered.

I always thought Winger were wrongly grouped in with the rest of the pretty boys with loadsa make up bands of that era. Although I only have the first 2 albums (with the first one on vinyl) I always thought they were great.
As a the demos Cleopatra records released two disc in 2007.. it feels a little cheap with demos one disc.?

Great, I remember you posting a picture of it on the community tab and I was fascinated by it, streamed some tracks and managed to get hold of the box on Amazon. Played every album over and over in the car during months of family hospital visits. A favourite box set and I have you to thank or I'd never have investigated it...
I think Winger struggled not just because of their timing with the whole grunge movement but also because of Beavis And Butthead, which had a character that was intended to be an unlikeable nerd who always wore a Winger shirt (as opposed to Beavis and Butthead's Metallica and AC/DC shirts.) I think they were always on shaky ground for the very reasons you cite as being what's notable about them - better musicianship, better songs, but maybe not really fitting into either the glam-rock that was popular at the time nor metal. They didn't quite fit in. And then the constant jokes from Beavis And Butthead really kind of eroded what little foundation they had out there.
Great comment and I agree, Beavis and Buthead must have damaged their chances. I also think they were unfairly aligned with many of the so called hair metal bands. The musicianship and songs are superb. Phil
