I agree with you, Liefeld is terrible, but I’m happy to have the book because it’s a popular character with X-men ties… and that’s pretty much the only reason

I'm a little older than you, so I was in full collector mode in the late 80s and early 90s. It's always fun to see people buying comics that I still have from those days, like New Mutants 98 or Ghost Rider 1. I quit collecting in 1993 and just got back into it in 2022, so I'm currently trying to catch up on the last 30 years. I am also a big X-Men guy, which makes catching up quite difficult (and expensive). There are soooooo many X-Men books. lol But so far I've managed to complete volume 1 collections for X-Men (90s, including title changes), X-Factor, Excalibur, New Mutants, X-Man, X-Treme X-Men, Extraordinary X-Men, X-Men Gold, X-Men Blue, and Uncanny X-Men from #143 thru 544. I'm a handful of issues away from completing Generation X and X-Men 2099 too, and 18 issues away from completing X-Force. Luckily, I already owned all of the really expensive issues. I'm almost ready to start focusing on quality instead of quantity.
3 Men In A Basement has become the stuff of legends and I really like Otto's philosophy behind the event. "Some people" are the ones who have copies that they're trying to talk up in order to boost the price; if it makes them feel better, then they can consider that character to be Sting. But it's definitely not John Constantine. As for that Swamp Thing series, it is awesome - my favourite in the character's history after the original run with Wein and Wrightson. I think you made the right choice in rejecting that FF 49 (too much wrong with it, especially the missing page even if it didn't affect the story) and the Daredevil (looked very fragile). Great video Mike, you really communicated the atmosphere (and the volume).

Seems like a fun environment and harkens back to what comic book conventions used to be (before all the Hollywood hoopla). Glad you had a good time. That Hulk #180, though - in that condition AND missing the MVS for $800? ROFL! At least you politely passed on it. Copy with the same problems just sold on eBay for less than $300 (best offer accepted).
I'm not a huge fan of Deadpool myself but that new mutants book is on my list and I'm still yet to get one so congratulations on scoring one for yourself Mike

My love and hate for early 90s comics resonates with you for mainly the same reasons but also because I had most of those major keys (1st Deadpool, 1st Carnage, etc) but I gave them along with other 90's goodness to my little brother and his friend in the late 90's and still kick myself to this day for doing so....

Just went back through my older stuff to see if I had, by any chance, The New Mutants #98. I don’t catalog my collection well, lol. Checked it out, I’ve got a few miscellaneous issues, then a solid run that includes 93-97, but no #98. So close. I went through another box, tho, and did find a copy of the Hulk #180, with the stamp still inside, so that’s kinda cool.

That first Carnage was what got me to quit collecting comics as a kid. I saw that cover on the rack and was like, "they made a red Venom? I'm out." 30 years later I'm back in with a vengeance. But I still refuse to buy that book.
The embossed covers and die cut covers of the early 1990s made me decide it was time stop collecting comics back then. Just too much speculation and scratch n sniff covers and nothing else
Wouldn't Swamp Thing #25 be more of a prototype of Constantine? It seems like it's been tough to get a nice Swamp Thing #37 @ a decent price for quite a while. I was lucky enough to get a raw copy a year before the comic boom. Wow, I'm on par with you on 90's stuff since I've never been al that hyped up on Deadpool either. But I like expensive 1st appearances too, so I have a direct copy of New Mutants #98 PLUS a newsstand copy, both in high grade!! I feel the same way about Carnage yet still have 5 nice copies of ASM 361 too!! Great that there are people out there of like minds!

It’s John Constant”I”ne as in a hard “I” and not an “e”. The character makes a big deal about pronouncing his name, although I forget in which Hellblazer issue. Love the channel and just don’t want you to wake up covered in spiders and flies or as Nergal’s little bitch in a Hellish hotel room for mispronouncing Johnny Con-jobs name. 😂 Cheers and keep having fun with your channel!

I think most people would take a 181 without a stamp over a 180 with. It’s just such a desirable book

I usually hear through comic stores and other shows, but you can Google comic book shows in your area and should get an idea

Love the channel and just don’t want you to wake up covered in spiders and flies or as Nergal’s little bitch in a Hellish hotel room for mispronouncing Johnny Con-jobs name. 😂 Cheers and keep having fun with your channel!

Actually, rather than taking a shot a Gary as has been popular lately for him being hardcore on pricing, I give him major points for attending a swap such as this. Also, thanks Mike for explaining why we don’t hear from him on the video.
I appreciate the compliment but everybody in the TH-cam community does their own thing and it isn’t fair to compare. Fact is, channels like mine probably wouldn’t exist without Gary and he was incredibly gracious to me.
