At T.H. in Buffalo, there are typically 3 within a 1.5 miles radius with 10-15 cars in line at each every morning. Their quality and customer service has steadily declined, with some stores closing early due to staff shortages. The chain was named after a drug-addled Buffalo Sabre who died in a high speed crash in Canada.
Tim Horton was a considerably better man than your flippant description. He made his name as a Toronto Maple Leaf, where had a big role in 4 (yes, 4) Stanley Cups. He was named to the NHL All Star First Team 3 times and the Second Team 3 times. His jersey number, 7, has been retired by the Leafs.
I wish Dunki Donuts would return to Canada. I wish Krispy Cream would come to Canada. I’m so fed up (pardon the pun…) with horton’s.. When they switched from baked in house to frozen/parbaking (what ever the hell that is…) I gradually began my quiet quitting of that formally Canadian downhill destined for extinction restaurant chain.
Owners have fiefdoms-the owner of all the locations in greater Victoria-he owned all 67 locations. No other franchise owner in the area-he shut them out. Tim's tends to do that more than any other franchisor. All the franchisees may need to unite to fight the evil consortium.
Go there after 8pm & ask for a Cinnamon Raisin Bagel & you'll won't get an apology from any employee as to why they don't have 95% of the products on their so called ' Food Menu '. Since the US investors have bought this food chain it's become an embarrassment to the retail climate of the fast food industry in Canada! Even places like 7 / 11 have more choices & better food than Timmy's in edible snacks! In Calgary, Alberta there isn't any Timmy's store that can serve a sandwich listed on their so called ' Food Menu ' past 8 PM ! The menu has become a joke amongst many long time Timmy's loyal customers ! Timmy's has literally pissed off all my friends that used to frequent the establishment at lease a few times a week . Now none of us even consider going there ! Now all you can get is the leftover coffee grounds in the coffee canisters & forget the word fresh ! Considering Timmy's was the # 1 Fast Food outlet rated in Canada a decade ago it even beat out Mcdonalds who for the first time in over 50 years had to accept the # 2 position for fast food sales in Canada. The Americans deserve this failure due to their greed, & failure is the only way to describe this mess !
Sad to see the demise of a once great brand. I feel for the store owners who got screwed, many of whom are mom and pop outfits. The coffee used to be great then it seemingly changed overnight. Now McDonalds has the best coffee from a fast food chain and the double walled cups are far superior.
I know two people who one Timmy franchises. One was a chef who had numerous failed restaurants.. he got a franchise some 20 years ago and kept getting more stores but clearly he makes money . Is it a lot!? Not in my opinion but since he couldn’t get a McDonald’s franchise he opted for Tim’s . He’s doing ok. No Rockefeller just yet! The second guys Dad used to own some grocery stores but those all got bought out so they took the cash and got a couple Timmy’s . Again more than 20 years ago . Since then they have 5 or 6 . Lots of turnover of staff but he dumps that responsibility on their GMs who often manage a couple stores. As for profit… well I’m sure they’ve quintupled their investment by now .. but not only does Tim’s take their fee but every 7 years or so they refresh the look and kaching they charge half a mill in Reno costs per store. As an investment it is marginal unless you’re the franchisor ! Plus you need to own many stores to make it profitable
My guess is that the majority of the people who sit at Tim Hortons stores or buying stuff through their drive-throughs are doing so because they either cannot or do not want to afford paying more to get a higher quality. So they settle for the lower quality, knowing that they also pay less than in other places. It is what it is. And as to the owners of the individual stores, they are hardly ever in the store so they don’t need to work eight hours a day in the store for what they are compensated therefore even if they only make $100,000 a year I think that’s not too bad for compensation on something that you don’t need to work for eight hours a day the whole year.
Many older or retired people used to go there but now not as many prices are out of control I have never bought a donut that cost 3 bucks and it's outrageous that you spend 40 bucks for specialty donuts it's fat
We recently got a TH at Penrith, Cumbria, England. I'd never heard of them. It opened in a former KFC. Wonder if it's the same people switched franchise? Great video as always.
As a Canadian Tim Hortons is more of a convenience because we don't have other brands similar to Tim Hortons that are "affordable" if crispy creme is in Calgary I would never walk into a Tim Hortons ever again
I stopped going to Tim’s recently for 3 reasons: uniqual quality from store to store, the staffing has changed in most stores don’t even make you feel like starting the day or taking a break there (anymore), and cleanliness has inceasingly gotten worst. I go where i am treated best. For quality / price ratio there are better options.

$220,000. before EBITDA is not very helpful. What type of salary for the operator is included in this figure? Is the operator at the franchise for several hours per day? Does this figure include the average amount of funds per year spent on capital additions? Tim Horton's used to have a policy of mandatory store makeovers every 10 years. I think the most successful operators have a number of locations and are able to get advantages of scale by having Managers look after a number of stores and streamlining the accounting function. Having said that, the franchisor appears to be more interested in keeping shareholders happy and getting large salaries themselves than working with the franchisees!
Very valuable information. I have seen your video on them back in 2018. I was very interested but they said they don’t have the storage and services to Florida. I think there products are top notch and most Canadians when they visit the USA they support the stores. Thank you for sharing
Thanks Hassan! It makes sense logistically they were probably staying closer to the border. Just checked their latest FDD and most are in NY, MI and OH, still none in FL.
Timmys sucks. Born and raised in Canada. I only support American companies since they came and drove all canadian companies out with their superior customer service. Go to Lowes and then go to canadian tire. Then you’ll know what im talking about.
Canadians have trouble getting a franchise, but the gov't pays for franchise for people coming into the country. They don't hire Canadians either I go to McDonalds better coffee, and you might find a Canadian there
The royalties and leases staff costs and equipment are killing the average owner these days. Stores are becoming more takeout/drive thru and less seating inside. they re no longer just C&D's they becoming more of a fast food outlet with wraps chikn fingers soup and now pizza the staff needs to know alot. There are 2 within 10mins of my house and they often run outta stuff like eggs/bacon..etc so cant always get whatcha want. True story.
McDonald's is hurting Tim Hortons in the coffee game as well since they bought Tim Hortons old coffee. Plus McDonald's got aggressive with their pricing as well so it's going to hurt even more as well.
I'm from Ontario Canada and I can tell you that you can find several Tim's on opposite corners of a main intersection. And nothing to see 3 or 4 within a kilometer or two or every mile or so. You guys are backwards down there 😜👍🇨🇦
Go to local privately owned cafes. Great quality, great service. Corporate style thinking and strategies have ruined Tim's from what it was in the 80s.
They lost me when they went from fried in house to baked in house. I would rather spend a dollar more for a Starbucks than anything else out there. If I want a donut I go to old school independent donut shops/ bakeries.
It’s not a dollar more it’s Starbucks, it’s at least 3-4 dollars more. No one can compete with Tim Hortons for the price in relation to the quality may be the qualities is not that great, but the price is very low many of the people who go there don’t want to spend more or cannot spend more so they settle for that level of quality Because it doesn’t cost them much.
@johnsmith100 when is the last time you bought a drip coffee from Starbucks? Also, Their coffee tastes the same on every continent they have stores, and most NCL cruise ships. Consistency is paramount and appreciated.
If the cost to make a donut goes from 6 to 18 cents, that DOES NOT mean the owner makes 3 times less....they are like 2 dollars each...so they make 1.82 each instead of 1.95
*Dunkin Donuts 🍩...* That's all you need... There's 3 Tims In NY 1 in Atlanta And I think another in Philly... I might be wrong on that. Tim Hortons ain't it nomore. (Correction there is a 2 Tims in Ohio) I'm not gonna lie I kinda wish there was a Dunkin Donuts in Toronto... 🔜

The Tim Hortons lost when given to ownership’s to East Indians to Run it nearly all in Vancouver Surrey Burnaby Langley stores The quality dropped faster than bombs All employees become Indian students bad service I was eating 3 meals a day now not one cub coffee a day The last over 7 months 100$ on my phones apps the balance is still 38$ dollars remaining over 7 months
Tim Hortons in the GTA is a write off. So many orders are messed up with the language barrier, and there's no quality control. Tim Hortons in cottage country is still fairly decent tho.
Nobody seems to remember Wendy's/ Scott's had there hands on Tim Horton and then Burger King now maybe MacDonald's has to buy them out to save them HMMMMM
I stopped, going to Timmys when I found out they were owned by South Americans. Then I figured my money was leaving the country and that it was no longer about quality.
Those profit margins are going to shrink even more now that McDonald's coffee is 40¢ or more cheaper per cup. Plus, they offer breakfast wraps too now.

@@FranchiseCityOnline yes, very true. Thumbs up. Great video.
Oh? Wheres lowes these days? gone...
Try Las Vegas. A shop on the Strip
Canadians have trouble getting a franchise, but the gov't pays for franchise for people coming into the country. They don't hire Canadians either I go to McDonalds better coffee, and you might find a Canadian there
not in this city
Haven't been to tims in probably over a decade because of their reliance on tfw.
I used to buy something from Tim's almost every single day, now I will go to Tim's if I really need to. Hygiene is very questionable now.
True story.
Great points - thanks for sharing!
When Hortons began selling thawed out donuts I never purchased one again. My coffee purchases are no minimal as well.
McDonald's is hurting Tim Hortons in the coffee game as well since they bought Tim Hortons old coffee. Plus McDonald's got aggressive with their pricing as well so it's going to hurt even more as well.
As Dunkin Donut went down in canada ,Seems the same route as Tim Horton
@@crankybastid2197
Two weeks ago, in the Toronto area.
@johnsmith100 a large to a large cup of coffee is a $1 difference
@@crankybastid2197 Thanks.
They can all close but likely reopen as taste of india
Tandoori Tim's has a nice ring to it
Tim Hortons used to be great. It’s now trash.
Largest offender of temp foreign workers program.
If the cost to make a donut goes from 6 to 18 cents, that DOES NOT mean the owner makes 3 times less....they are like 2 dollars each...so they make 1.82 each instead of 1.95
I stopped going to Tim's after RBI bought TH, I see more independent coffee shops flourishing in the GTA, offering better quality coffee and service
Typical business mindset. Make money and then change things to make even more money = people go elsewhere.
I don't think anyone should be supporting tim hortons.
its 2024 and not being an EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER in Canada is insane.
*Dunkin Donuts 🍩...*
That's all you need...
There's 3 Tims In NY
1 in Atlanta
And I think another in Philly... I might be wrong on that.
Tim Hortons ain't it nomore. (Correction there is a 2 Tims in Ohio)
I'm not gonna lie I kinda wish there was a Dunkin Donuts in Toronto... 🔜
And Zero Dunkin locations remain in Canada 😞
Hello there Mr. Edwards. Hope you are well. TH is more bogus than Dolly Parton's bogus Bustline.
Lol - my expertise has its limits
It’s pure junk sugar stuff. I can’t call it food
Can you do a video on the Pizza Pizza franchise as-well as a newer brand called Osmow’s?
Excellent video by the way.
Thank you! I will add those to the list. If you are a prospective buyer you can get custom reviews in 48 hours: th-cam.com/video/HDrFegUMSZI/w-d-xo.html
The Tim Hortons lost when given to ownership’s to East Indians to Run it nearly all in Vancouver Surrey Burnaby Langley stores
The quality dropped faster than bombs
All employees become Indian students bad service
I was eating 3 meals a day now not one cub coffee a day
The last over 7 months 100$ on my phones apps the balance is still 38$ dollars remaining over 7 months
Food quality drastically dropped over the last 10 years. Used to be an avid Timmy's enjoyer. Haven't been there in like 5 years now
Use to go every day , I can't remember last time I was there
Tim Hortons in the GTA is a write off. So many orders are messed up with the language barrier, and there's no quality control. Tim Hortons in cottage country is still fairly decent tho.
Why would any one get Franchise. Does not make sense economically. It is a dead business.
Nobody seems to remember Wendy's/ Scott's had there hands on Tim Horton and then Burger King now maybe MacDonald's has to buy them out to save them HMMMMM
The food tastes like garbage and the coffee is very different. not going there any longer
well it seems pretty profitable as the owner of three of them near me is sitting in a 5million house so
Drive thru lineup is way to long now bc of there huge menu !!!
They blew up in MN almost overnight then they went away just as fast.
I stopped, going to Timmys when I found out they were owned by South Americans. Then I figured my money was leaving the country and that it was no longer about quality.
How much time does the average Tim Hortons spend?
1.5 mill at 10% 150,000
Compared to investing the money
Those profit margins are going to shrink even more now that McDonald's coffee is 40¢ or more cheaper per cup. Plus, they offer breakfast wraps too now.
WELL, THANKFULLY WE HAVE THE 'NET WHERE ANY COMPLAINTS CAN GO VIRAL IN MINUTES. DECADES AGO ALL WE COULD DO WAS COMPLAIN TO OUR FRIENDS AND FAMILIES. I FOR ONE WILL SPARE NO TIME IN SHOWING THE WORLD HOW GREEDY AN OWNER CAN BE!!
Tim Horton is spinning in his grave.
Tims was great until they were bought out by a US firm.
Tim Hortons is a declining company. Stores are filthy, coffee has declined, food quality is failing. They are heading the wrong way.
The boycott begins today !
I live in WNY and we love our Timmy's. I have to agree there product quality how gone down significantly over the years. Coffee is the best thing they do. My kids do love there tim bits thou.
Product of corporate greed
They sold to immigrants that have no clue how our coubtry works and have no idea how to run a business like this they should have had training alot of it Tim Hortons used to be anal about all rules they would clise you down. These people have no knowledge of these things maybe guce them chance to get the proper training . AND TIM HORTONS QRE SELL OUTS USED TO BE CANADIAN OWNED YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED FOR SELLING . In our town alot of business have been taken over in same way and there not cutting it either shoukd be closed down soon tertible food and service. KFC is the worst omg its discusting. We have no chicken place antmore Mary Browns was taken over to then swiss chalet closed and we got chucks roadhouse lol. These people not too bright we already have 4 or 5 restaurants the same there not going to make it at least 3 will go under lol its small town and not enough people lol. Besides one eyed Jacks is the best and the people running it are well trained and the food is awesome .
I agree with what you're saying regarding selling franchises to just about anyone. Most of these immigrants are indeed clueless, and this is a large part of the reason why the customer service has declined. That being said, your comment is littered with spelling and grammatical errors. Is English your first language, or are you one of these clueless immigrants you speak of?
Tim hortons was never great. Quality is about the same as I ever remember. You get what you pay for from a “cheap” place.
People wanting $10 coffee for $2
It’s $2 for a reason.
$2 billion dollar lawsuit.. that’s a lot of dough
It's all garbage now
They serve dog food now.
Big Corporate where the only thing is the bottom line. Well it shows up folks. Tims is going down the drain fast and only those at the top as usual will walk away happy.
First brands is a very greedy corp I eat at Popeyes and stop cuz they bought Popeyes and jacked up meals three bucks just like Tim's
Boycotted Tim Hortons 4 years ago. I am never looking back and everyone reading this knows exactly why.
