Nah, the tire if fine. Love these videos of antique Cat tractors. Reminds me of when I was a kid and just starting out on this stuff and- the trade never lost its' magic for me. The fellow in videos here reminds me of so many hard working guys I was around for many years. Good people. I began around Cat stuff in San Antonio, Texas for about $2.25 an hour. Around 1970. Retired in 2006 from a union local in the northern states- with a pension. IN 2006. I never dreamt of where this career would take me. Pipelining, excavating, pipeplaying, grading, and one hundred other places I cannot recall. God Bless you guys. Take care. Really. Dangerous work.
I recently watched a couple tire co guys change out a pair on a front end loader - they did most of the work breaking the bead by hand with pry pars and sledges and thankfully had a liftgate to do the lifting - crazy amount of work. thanks for posting this video.
WOW! You may find this hard to believe, but it was my experience, on multiple occasions, in the depth of my dispair, when I thought nothing could ever go back to the way I once knew it as good an innocent when she said what you just said.
I remember doing one of these years ago. We jacked it up removed the wheel and carried it up the field in the bucket of a 3cx. When the driver got to the top of the field he tipped it out the bucket. The wheel rolled of down the field We absolutely pissed ourselves laughing. Great memories.
As you can see when he tried to get the tube out that it was "welded" to the inside of the tire. This is from heat and friction. The tube "welded"to the inside of the rim also. That is why the rim wouldn't release. The weakest most dangerous part of a 4 piece rim is the area that holds the lock ring on. When he takes his mallet and beat's on that your just asking for trouble. [You do not see it in the video but you hear it] Use TALCOM powder when installing a tube. Trust me.
I like how you need heavy machinery to change the tires on other heavy machinery. Kinda begs the question, what came first, the tire or the heavy machinery?
I worked for Eagle Picher Ind. in Lubbock Texas building the 613/615 line. I worked on the cabs for the ROPS/CROPS/ICROPS and just loved that job but hated the management.
Those tires aren't cheap. This looks like a privately owned piece of equipment, and the owner probably doesn't want to shell out money that would make your car tires look like coffee money. there's plenty of life left in those tires, since they run tubes in em, they don't have to be air tight, just enough meat to grab and not get ripped up by rocks.
Leaving the wheel assy. on the unit is the best way to work with any tire but not in this case due to the outer spindle. A couple buckets of soapy water goes a long way, too. I was changing a rear tire on a large Kubota at this rental yard in Fresno. I left the wheel bolted to the axle and just jacked tractor up. Mr. Know-it-all owner comes out and tells me to remove the wheel for best results. I explained to him this is the easiest way. He couldn't understand how. Mow-ron...
Behind the beautiful facade as usual. Worn out equipment and laborers with a sledgehammer and ingenuity. Germany, Russia, USA and everywhere one and the same.
@Xx69roadrunnerxX A brand new tire of this size would be over $5,000. The plan is to patch the tire and the inner tube. The difficulty in changing this tire was moderate. Only 4 inside bolts and 2 outside bolts hold everything in place.
Great Video....I noticed that the tire was pretty cracked up...did you just put a new liner and tube back into the same tire and if so how long would it last like that?
did u have to remove the tyre from the rim, why couldnt you lift the tyre in the air so that the wheel falls through but suspends on the opp side bead?
Awesome .. always wondered how one changed those huge tires. Hey .. any chance you'd have one of those huge inner tubes? Been looking for one! Great vids
I work in vulcanizing service, and we don't have another cat to help disassemble the tires. We all make with our own hands, and for a ,sorry, crap of money...just the big machine which separate tire is only help, but before and after we are the key figures to put down and back the wheel...
hi ! i used to repair earth mover tyres for a company in eng land called OTR tyres . have you ever had a locking ring blow off ? i have ! its not fun !!!
Hey, Third Infantry Division! When/where were you stationed? Forty years ago today (6/28) I was on a bus to basic training at Fort Ord, Ca. A year and a 1/2 later I was stationed at Giebelstadt Air Base in W. Germany; C Battery, 3/67 Air Defense Artillery. GO ARMY!
@DieselPowerTV Ya I figured it would be a few dollars for a new tire. Ive talked to a few guys about buying new tires for their mining haul truck fleets and the cost was astronomical!! Ridiculousyly expensive. Good thing the repair wasnt that bad though.
Must be nice working in an area where corrosion isnt a big thing, you'd need a red wrench, and a 1 inch impact to get those bolt out up here where I live.
I am thinking maybe not just time for a new tube, but a new tire as well. Just judging from the fact that the entire thing is dryrotted completely through with holes big enough to stick my fist through.
Great repair vid!! But man that looks like a pain in the ass to change a tire on that DW15. How much does one of those tires cost? Cool cat by the way! The furry one, haha.
I came here because I needed to take the tire off my Chevy cobalt and needed some instructions. Everything went well until I used a D6 dozer to lift the car up by the rocker rails, it went downhill from there.

Did the the tire Tech job for 6 years, theres a lot to learn than most of you would think.
I remember doing one of these years ago.

Damn somebody that knows the difference between a 4 or 5 piece rim assembly and a damn split rim ....hat's off to you sir .......
Using the blade to pick the thing up is AMAZING
I like how you need heavy machinery to change the tires on other heavy machinery. Kinda begs the question, what came first, the tire or the heavy machinery?
The heavy machinery to make the heavy machinery to make the tire for the heavy machinery
Step 1 - Pet cat.
Step 2 - Change tire.
lool

good use of tools available and on the plus side theres no health and safety
"experts" on hand to offer their wealth of expertise ;-)
Nice to see someone on youtube fix something without all the jibberjabber.
That's some good old country boys at work. Way to go boys.

Love how you guys are so clever.

always wondered how you change a tire on those machines. and damn, what a process
I used to break down the beads on the 410-20 x 22.5 using the shop floor hoist to push the ring then remove the lockring .
when we were kids we used to roll down hills in them old truck tire tubes. they get huge.
@Xx69roadrunnerxX A brand new tire of this size would be over $5,000. The plan is to patch the tire and the inner tube. The difficulty in changing this tire was moderate. Only 4 inside bolts and 2 outside bolts hold everything in place.
Con todos mis respetos, creo que habéis desarmados muy pocos neumáticos industriales.
Great Video....I noticed that the tire was pretty cracked up...did you just put a new liner and tube back into the same tire and if so how long would it last like that?
@SjonniTh Having a cat around helps the operation move along smoothly.
precision pieces of equipment in the right hands.
This is the most intriguing things I have ever seen.
that is cool i always wonderd how to change a big tire like that keep the vids coming
cat er pillar?
Did you reuse that tire? Is there any way to fix the holes in this tire? (Vulcanization? Sewing? Staples?)
I don't remember seeing that removal method in the Caterpillar maintenance manual. But it works.
these guys are not killers, but are tough as nails for sure
CAT's are my all time favorite toolz.
Split rims, how dangerous is that, LOL! Love the cat.
Did you fix the huge hole in the tire and how? Part 2?
Whats the price on 4 new tires for that machine? Or was that old cracked tire still good to use?
Go for the foam filled tires, you can drive foot long rebar into them without a problem.
did u have to remove the tyre from the rim, why couldnt you lift the tyre in the air so that the wheel falls through but suspends on the opp side bead?
1:01 Those are some 'big boy's' tools haha! Nice one
such a convoluted tire/wheel/hub setup.
how long did it take ? like 2-3 hours ?
wow, that was really cool to watch! diesel powered tv is badass
I dunno why I watched this video, but good job gettin that tube out.
Awesome .. always wondered how one changed those huge tires. Hey .. any chance you'd have one of those huge inner tubes? Been looking for one! Great vids

If you need a tractor to take a tractor apart, what came first? the tractor, or the tractor?
How much does the tire weights?

Thanks for your service, Brother.

Good god at the dry rot on that tire!
I'm starting to really appreciate my desk job...

what size tube is that ur using
Is this tire back on the DW15?
All my 300 scrappers were standing still in my appartement with 1 or more flat tyres before i saw this video.
Why lift it up with the dozer blade? Can't you just drop the bowl right down or doesn't that work on these older scrapers?
+Asdfssdfghgdfy Why lift up the sozer blade? wtf
@5020Chris Sometimes we need two D9's to break the bead on larger tires.
how much do those tires weigh?
Why did I click this video? I don't even have a tire... I don't even have a damned tractor or anything...
Manolis Grifoman for the education and entertainment

are these tires re cutable?
I liked the video not many people do that. However,It is lack of simple safety precautions not wearing safety wear at all.
in future, maybe a good idea to change the tyre before its gets to that state!
im subscribing to ur channel because i love ur cat
seems like you would need a hydraulic jack and a service truck to do it, probobly just easier with the machines though
I like the kitty cat!! :)
I am thinking maybe not just time for a new tube, but a new tire as well. Just judging from the fact that the entire thing is dryrotted completely through with holes big enough to stick my fist through.
Pinched!!! ...not surprised with that tire.
Don't even know why I'm watching this at 1:41am on a work day :/ but thanks for the vid lol
Is the cat a necessity in this?
COMO É FACIL TROCAR O PNEU DE UMA MAQUINA.
is there another video?
dude look like he was gone get hurt. is it always like that?
how to remove if you have one dozer and one excavator?
Great repair vid!! But man that looks like a pain in the ass to change a tire on that DW15. How much does one of those tires cost? Cool cat by the way! The furry one, haha.
if regular car tires are like $80 per tire, then i'm guessing a new tire like that would cost around $200 - $500 each?
And ... then what happened? Did the same old tire go back in? With holes like that, its time for a new one.
I didn't want to touch the tires on my M725 cause they were on Split Rims but this is another story altogether!
Bent-nail Nut-lock is a general indicator of what's going on there...
I came here because I needed to take the tire off my Chevy cobalt and needed some instructions. Everything went well until I used a D6 dozer to lift the car up by the rocker rails, it went downhill from there.
How to mount it on ?
these are the real men.

o the cat loves scratching and she/he wants to play!
I saw an episode of MacGuyver once where he did the same thing using only a paper-clip and a chewing gum wrapper. :-)

Made that split rim look easy ... Those Kill people man! Woah ....
more like 1000-5000 depends on the brand. large tractor tires are 5000$

Petting the cat is crucial!
