The CoD casters were pretty damn good considering they weren't nearly as knowledgeable about the game (probably because they're just good at getting hype), I honestly liked it. This whole tournament kinda felt like a local run by high level TOs actually, it was refreshing compared to a massive major in the same way summits often are
I agree the quality of nearly everything was better than most melee tourneys and should be emulated for melee in the future if we want to continue to evolve and be respected in the competitive gaming scene.
@@homeyworkey summit might be a bad comparison because it’s a small invitational that occurs in a microcosm. If you meant overall commentary or general event vibes fair enough I guess, but the production value of summit is decently professional.
@@anonanon521 ive only watched this highlight, but im referring to vibes, not how professional it is, because both summit and this tourney i would argue are primarily for content, while summit is a bit more competitive. summit is the same people all the time (for the most part) and there arent big prizes on these Meme stages, which honestly is good content but they want to be more competitive ig. they could do other things tho, like bring modding in, use the hoops mode (i know its old news now..). idk summit side events just seem kind of mid to me, and have 0 stakes. plus having new people learn the game and experiencing melee for first time is pretty dope
Call of Duty is a game where people care a hell of a lot more about storylines and ongoing action rather than the depth of the game and explaining interactions. Has do to with the nature of the game itself and that it changes every year. Pair this with the game being super fast paced as well, casters are constantly reacting to whats happening on screen rather than trying to explain whats happening. Due to this cod casters develop this talent to talk about whats happening on the screen in a hype way and are able to transition from each other super well without getting super involved in the mechanics of the game. This is also because call of duty usually has a dedicated analyst desk to talk about the matches analysis in between games. Just explaining a lil background on why they were so good with melee :)) love both scenes and games hope there are more events like this in the future.
Loved the change of pace of this tournament. Seemed like a good balance of fun, casual, and competitive spirit. Makes viewing it more accessible and seemed like everyone had a good time
thanks so much for the highlight video - i wanted to go back and see the cod commentators cast this game and i was struggling to find it. u a real one for archiving this unique melee experience :)
Wow thank you! That is exactly what I made this channel for was to archive some of the lesser viewed parts of tournaments that get lost as soon as the twitch vods are gone.
This tournament was sick. Uncommon matchups (G&W vs. Samus) + mute city - I love it. I would love to see more tournaments toss in a single banned stage - for the nostalgia and just to keep things fresh
Hey give our Melee commentators some respect. Gotta remember that it might actually be easier to commentate a “new” game and give new flavor/twists in your commentary! It’s another thing to bring your insight and experience and keep both a casual audience and competitive audience engaged. Keep doing your best Melee commentstors. And for non-melee commentators, we welcome you with open arms!
Only two top ten players. But a whole lot of other nearly top ten players, so idk I wouldn’t consider it a major necessarily but it is a subjective answer
yeah it was crazy that my reaction to hearing the cod guys cast was actually "this is actually really fun and good". i think a lot of casters are obsessed about inserting random obscure information into their commentary that often isn't even correct if they're not knowledgeable enough. unless you really know your stuff i don't think its a good idea to try to sound so smart on commtary, that's why he summit couch often has more enjoyable commentary + more conversational and fun + more game knowledge.
Salt (black) being labeled on screen is casual racism sneaking in that is completely unacceptable .. I’m surprised they took it in stride instead of calling it out as bogus. Jmook looking like the end screen with how much he claps after an L. Woulda liked to see aMSa’s stars of down b landing on game 5 of Wizzy top plat yoshi’s

We need more for fun events in tournaments. Mute City was hype. Reminds me of Rishi's Jungle Jam.
HE IS BUT A MOUSE!!!
My man's Quest for that number 1 spot is for real, damn 🔥

The cod commentators were amazing!
HE IS BUT A MOUSE
1:35 Editor's note, never cut-off a Men in Tights reference.
hearing the retro bowl theme around 3:50 was nice
1:11 More like N3CKModGod lol
n3zmodgod is the anti-jmook with that posture lol
I'll take these clueless cod casters over 90% of our melee casters any day of the week
the wavedash cancels

This weekend also didn’t hear about it till it passed but it was pretty stacked. Amsa, jmook, axe, wizzrobe, s2j, none, ginger
Was this a major?
I say yes but it's subjective. Follow your heart.

I mean amsa won but this doesn’t count for rankings right
im convinced smash needs to hire new commentators

KONGO JUNGLE COUNTERPICK NOW
This tournament wasn't a major lol
Jmook, Amsa, Wizzy, S2J, n0ne, bobby and Axe makes it a major
@@christianbeske2417 2 of the top 10 is not a major. Minimum 4, if it’s the top 4. 7+ supermajor territory
okay
@@christianbeske2417 S2J is ranked 16th, n0ne is ranked 9th, bobby is ranked 80th, Axe is ranked 29th, and Wizzy isn't even ranked?
