While visiting Steve Kroschel’s Wildlife Center in Haines, Alaska the Brave Wilderness team was privileged to meet many amazing animals but this little Mink was by far the most entertaining in interact with!
Leaping and bounding all around Coyote and Steve the Mink sure showed off its speed and agility. Just when you’d think it was ready to calm down and take a rest it was back in the water for some more splashing around because playtime is never over when you're a mustelid!

Goodness! I have ferrets, it's like comparing a dog to a wolf! What a great family the weasel cousins are!
I like this guy. He seems so excited to be around this little mink. I like the little camera and tripod/selfie stick he had. It was so great for getting up close shots without impairing his ability to interact with the little guy. Genuinely unafraid, very comfortable but properly cautious. It was all about the animal, who was such a cutie.

I live in the UK, my dad had a farm along a river and a mink would appear every now and again. My dad taught me pretty much since I could walk to be afraid of them because they can be vicious. I had a few encounters with them over the years, usually from a distance but one day I walked out of the farmhouse and one was standing by the steps and chattering its teeth agressively.
Years later one of my best friends got into ferrets and was known as an expert handler so the local animal shelter would call up and ask her to take rescues that the shelter thought couldn't be rehomed because they were agressive etc. Every single one of them settled in and was able to be rehomed once it was in a group of ferrets and a big enough space so it didn't feel defensive.
Then one day they called her and said they had a part-mink! She knew how agressive they could be as she came to the farm with me plenty of times. But she decided to take her on. As it turns out, the mink-cross behaved pretty much like a normal ferret after she had settled in and I even cuddled with her 🥰

As a logical person I find some of Steve Krochel's assertions questionable but I really get behind the fact that he uses vocalisations to speak to the animals he cares for, I wish I was as good at mimicking as he is.

Reminds me of a story my dad told me. When my uncle was young, he was fishing at their cottage. He kept pulling fish out and putting them in a bucket, but when he looked in he bucket, they were gone! He reached under the dock and a mink bit him! They're so clever!

I love Mink, they are almost the perfect predator, unfortunately animal activists in this area raided a mink farm and let them go, YES I KNOW that farming fur isnt good, but also releasing hundreds of mink in the UK, where they proceed to decimate the local wildlife isnt good either. Mink got a REALLY bad rep as a result

Mink are incredibly bold. I remember being in the lake district when I was about 12 and building a dam in a stream. Then I saw a mink coming up the stream, bounding from rock to rock and swiming in the deeper parts. It saw me too, but didn't hesitate and just kept coming. I slowly squatted down and just watched it and it swam within two feet of me completely unconcerned.
I did a project on minks once. They are SO cute.

I love minks. They are actually my favorite animal.
He's so adorable
We called them sneaky little fur snakes, after what grandpa referred to them as. They snuck into the gardens and ate the cabbages. Just. The. Cabbages. He got pissed about it because although the rest of us were fine without cabbage, he liked it with salads. He wouldn't eat salad without cabbage, and he rarely bought any veggies from the store.

A mink is a mustelid which are obligate carnivores meaning they only eat meat so it wasn’t a mink
They actually ate the cabbages? That makes them one of the few critters I’ve met who would. Even rabbits turn their noses up at raw cabbage which I have used as proof that I should ave to eat it either.

The only issue is that his episodes aren't usually long enough to occupy a 30 minute segment. It'd force them to edit videos into a certain time frame.

Getting a TV show is difficult and doesn't always pay off, he gets paid from his network, and from ad revenue from TH-cam. Animal shows aren't extremely popular on TV.

Before thinking about getting a ferret because you find this mink so cute, keep in mind that they can be difficult to take care of properly. Too many people buy them and then release them into the wild(where they will die - they rely on humans to take care of them) or relinquish them to animal shelters(who usually have to euthanize them) because they didn't think their decision through properly.
They're very, very cute and the hard work is rewarding, but make sure that you understand what ferret ownership entails and that you're really up for the challenge first.
Please also be aware that most ferrets come from terribly cruel ferret mills, like Marshall Farms, and that adoption is ALWAYS the better option!
