    History missed: the Zero Mile Marker for Knoxville is located in the middle of Market Square.
    My 7th grade Tenn History teacher sent us on an extra credit scavenger hunt for it back in the day (this was before the internet, in the mid-90’s). We looked everywhere downtown for it, couldn’t find it near the courthouse, Tenn Theatre, even looked around the City County Building… we FINALLY located it after a long, long walkabout. We had to ask a sound company to move their audio cables so I could get a rubbing of the plaque-they had set up the sound booth over the medallion.
    Zero mile markers were what was used before GPS was invented. If you were “40 miles from Knoxville” on the interstate sign, you were 40 miles from that point in Market Square.
