Some quick tips: have several pairs of socks and foot powder, put everything in a waterproof bag or bags, put your maps in waterproof bags. If you carry ammo, have it already in magazines. Good video.

After watching 100(?)s of these bag videos I really appreciate the humor 😂

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who actively thinks about this. I always pay attention to where I'm at or how far I am from home so I know how far I need to walk if that were the case. Extra socks wet and warm weather gear. Fire starters because having it better than needing it. Movement is life so sometimes it's not alway beneficial to stop and make a fire etc. but you never know. A good knife and multi tool with a commercial square lug water key safety cutter. Change of clothes are a must for blending in to your surroundings or evading for whatever reason. Keep the tech charged until it's useless. Cordage is also a must. Extra lighting I prefer red light use as well. Alot of it is the unknowns. Keep it light but durable. Know your terrain and the obstacles and weather for the next few days.

You’re spot on! Socks have already been added to my pack. Not sure how I forgot those 🤷🏼‍♂️

When watching these, I always look for a silcock key.
A P-38 (or P-51) is a good lightweight addition that takes up zero space but can make life easier if you need to open a can.

Thanks for spending the time to show us your backpack. It’ll probably take you three times longer to put it all back in nicely…. Keep up the GREAT WORK. God Bless!

Couple lightweight items to add if ditching some of the extra ammo: spare socks and a sillcock key.

Not sure if you have something like this where you live, but in my area, we have lots of “hike and bike trails” and I have a hike and bike map in my GHB that I picked up at REI. They also have them at my local library. Gives me an option to stay off the main roads without having to just trek blindly through the woods. I have a similar bag as well. The vertx bags are pretty robust.

That’s a good idea. I’ll check into those.

10 or so years ago i spent 35 hours stranded at work because of an ice storm that hit virtually without warning
I was a truck driver and it took 5 hours to go the last 8 miles to the yard. When I got back i was stranded luckily i had a key to the bldg but there was no food no nothing
After that was over i put together a get home bag

There’s no better way to figure out what you need than to live through a situation like that!

I’ve watched a ton of these posts over the years. I have to say this is to the point, and pretty good. I agree with your set up. Getting home or going to get someone to bring home is important to me. For me I’d ditch some of the ammo and big block of food maybe use a Grayl filter. I’d add an Anker power bank and a Baofeng radio set up to accept GMRS (a simple hack). Go for speed and less weight but well done. Try hiking 5-10 miles with your setup. Try to avoid conflict. Good job.

You make a good point! I have a radio on my chest rig, but less weight is ideal. The setup you see in the vid is heavier than I’d like it to be, but some of the stuff I feel as necessary.

I repsect the fact you purchased a Vertx bag. I have one an its worth it.

I'm working on mine. I just got a better pair of work gloves for my bag, XL Leather. I have five more items to get, then I'm done. Just have to get the bag itself after that.

I appreciate the thought that went into the video. I've watched a lot of these type of vids and like this one a lot for the bag, and the explanation of why you put stuff in (most just list what they have). I like the organization and the wonton bag. I have my stuff in color coordinated bags but think the mesh may be better especially since Spiritus has the Wonton in multiple colors. I may be making that purchase in the very near future. Thanks for the heads up on the bags. I would suggest dropping the extra ammo like you've done. For the 9mm, why not just put that ammo into magazines and have them ready? Also, the map, you can purchase laminated maps. You live in AL and we see on average 100 days of rain per year. That's about 1/3 of the days. Your thin paper map may get ruined if you're pulling it out in a hurry and get ripped, or become soggy from rain. Just a thought. I work about 35 miles from home. I know if a SHTF hits while I'm at work and I don't have my truck it will take me two days to get home. For this reason I have a headlamp, a rocket stove and freeze dried food. Also, some power gel and a small ziplock of candy for added boost if I get tired while rucking home. I also have a small roll of duct tape I made, because duct tape is useful for covering woods, tying hands, binding stuff, fixing rips, a ton of stuff. I also keep a small powerbank for a weather radio (solar and crank) as well as a cheap Garmin InReach Mini2. In case cell is down I can at least message the wife and at $15 a month, the satelite subscription is worth it. As far as the knife is concerned, I personally have a folding knife and a fixed blade that is attached to the shoulder strap. In a SHTF where I'm having to walk home, I'm not afraid of looking tactical. In-fact, I want to be. I don't want people thinking I'm an easy loot drop. If they see me and I don't see them. I want them to look at me as a threat. As if my Sig Rattler wouldn't already give me away. It is also kind of extreme. But I do keep body armor in my truck, XL plates and it has a variety of patches to fit the situation (Press/Sheriff/Security/EMT) whatever the situation may require. I'm use to rucking with a 40lb pack so a 20lb get home bag and 15lbs of ceramic plates won't be too difficult. Again, it may be extreme, but I do carry several smoke, CS, and flashbangs. If I'm on the road on day 2 trying to get home after a SHTF and I run into a group with ill intent, I pop smoke, drop some CS, and hustle my azz in a different direction. They don't weigh much and I think that little of my fellow man that I think it'll be useful. My IFAK is a bit more hardcore. Having CPR, first aid, stop the bleed and having taken a combat casualty course I think I can handle most of the gear in my IFAK. I do like that you carry two tourniquets. One thing I've actually used my IFAK for is my liquid stich (think super glue). Getting torn up by barbed wire, stickers, an F'ing broken branch! I've used it with Eurosuture when I got a huge gash in my forearm. If you're savvy with the interwebs, you can get stuff off the scary "dark web" like counterfeit currency. I'd never use it except in a SHTF. But handing over a wad of cash may buy you what you need in the first few days of a SHTF.

Lots of good info! The laminated map idea is a really good point. I’ve got some fine tuning to do with my setup so your input is appreciated!

Burning up a hundred plus rounds of 5.56 to fight your way home means you just chose the wrong path!

why a rifle? to be honest makes you a target ... to get home pistol or take down PCC low key.. we tend to keep weight down ... loved the other ideas, great pack and setup thanks for sharing

This pack travels with me in my truck, so I’ll already have the rifle in my truck. If I’m not in my truck, probably won’t have the rifle on me and just stick with my ccw.

Why do you need a rifle?
It's a get home bag, what makes you think you can just shoot people? You're concerned about weight?.
Running shoes maybe a water bottle and filter a warm jacket, hat and gloves,a tarp or poncho and a metal mug and lighter for a small fire maybe.
You don't need all that shit, and weapons; you will be seen as part of the problem and killed at the first check point.

This whole bag goes with me in my truck, so the rifle will be in my truck also. The need for the rifle stems from the need for the bag. If some event happens that’s so bad that I can’t drive home, you bet your butt I’m gonna have my rifle with me.
