Hi, thank you for watching and great to know you also like this. This box set has really opened my eyes to this band. 7 is still my current favourite. I hope there is a box set for their later years as well. Phil
I became aware of Steppenwolf some 50 years ago as my brother-in-law used to constantly play the Easy Rider soundtrack in his car (possibly on an 8-Track?). They had the two opening tracks, 'Born to be wild' and 'The Pusher'. Wonderful stuff. This looks like a set that has been put together with real care and you get the booklet and a poster! Already looking round for the best deal.
Hi Peter, you are a bit like me, I only had the singles and knew them from that soundtrack as well. I did buy the live album a few years ago but the sound was pretty poor. The sound on all of these CDs is fantastic! Phil :)
Another brilliant video, thanks Phil ! I think my postie is going to be very busy over the next few weeks, and my bank manager is going to be keeping a close eye on me, ha ha!
Hi Bob, thank you! This channel, the Facebook Group and the website do have that affect! You are amongst like minded music fans here. This is a fabulous box set and for me essential as I realise how much I did not know about the bands musical past. I really hope there is a volume two for the later albums as well. Phil
Love love it Phil caught this video live before heading to work made my day cannot wait for it to arrive to my door in my hands and ultimately in ears God bless and happy holidays
Hi Tino, thank you for watching and so glad to hear you have also ordered a copy. I think you will love it ! Let me know what you think. Take care and best wishes to you and your family - Phil :)
Hey Phil, great review thanks. Steppenwolf Live is the first LP I ever bought (off the back of hearing Born to Be Wild when I was a kid in the 80s). To this day it is my favorite Live Album although Live in Japan by Purple and All the Worlds a Stage by Rush are close. This band has a great back catalogue and are so very, very much more than the two or three songs that always get played. I am also a fan of John Kay's Steppenwolf, this is a very different Beast than the original but John Kays lyrical sensibilities are a strong and recognisable link between the two bands. If a little 80's sheen does not put you off, try Rock and Roll Rebels, both the song and the album are great.
Hi Jean, great to hear from you and so pleased you like this box set. I really missed out on Steppenwolf first time around. I only really knew them from a few singles so this box set is just fabulous! Phil :)
Phil another great unboxing video. I will definitely check out this Steppenwolf boxset. A much overlooked band that contributed to psychedelic, hard and then blues rock. I loved their appearance on the OGWT with "Born to be wild". Another recent boxset release in time for Christmas you could maybe look at is Hawkwinds "Dust of Time". A six cd boxset gathering all the musical highlights of their 50 year career. It has only just been released on the 10th of December. I think the beauty of these box sets apart from their collectability is you can use them as a great starting point to explore the band. By the way your review of Slade Alives 45th anniversary CD made me hunt down and purchase a new and sealed copy along with the Slade Alive anthology. I'm loving this album all over again in its remastered state. Keep up the good work of keeping the rock alive and showing us those collectible boxsets that are available.
Hi John, thank you for watching and your gear comment. I remember seeing Steppenwolf on the OGWT as well, they looked so cool. The Hawkwind box set is on my list so I will definitely do an unboxing when I get a chance. Thank you for letting me know how much you enjoyed the Slade video. Feedback like this really inspires me to do more, I really appreciate it ! Best wishes Phil :)
@@NowSpinningMagazine The Hawkwind dust of time boxset is a Christmas present from my daughter. She asked me what I wanted for Christmas. I have seen the boxset but I just can't crack the seal on it just yet! (Damn ha ha)...its under wraps until Christmas day. Ah well only a few more sleeps. I've got family coming down on Christmas day as well ...I wonder if they can immerse themselves in a bit of space rock?...ha ha (evil laugh) Anyway thank you for taking the time to reply to my comment. Much appreciated.
Hi John, you are very welcome, I do try to reply to every comment as I know on most channels that does not happen and I know how it makes me feel when I leave a comment. I think it also builds trust and helps build community. It sounds like you have a good Christmas coming up, Space Rock, Turkey and all the trimmings. Phil :)
Seen on 7 they didn't use the back photo that was used on the Dunhill album, but the Probe (UK) figures Cherry Red is based over there, but can't wait to hear it all as this was the first band I got into after growing up to my older brother's Beatles stuff, the live album was my first taste so can't wait to hear the remaster, only one I never owned was early Steppenwolf, but I still own all these on vinyl but after this time period I only own two more "Hour of the Wolf" and "Skullduggery" which gave their own character to them, so a part 2 would be well expected.
Hi, thank you for watching and sharing your story. I am certainly a big fan now and streamed Skullduggery yesterday and loved it. I also hope there is a Vol 2 as well. Phil :)
Hello Phil, Affinity and Linda Hoyle are wonderful. The box is wonderfully done with gatefold sleeve on the main album plus single, but substantial, sleeves on 3 extra discs, pre Affinity, live Affinity and later Affinity. Haven't heard the 3 extras yet. The booklet is up to the usual standard with great photos and information, all in a solid clamshell box. Was out of stock last night on the website but Amazon usually have them.
I always remember in the 70s seeing a number of their albums in the second hand record shops. Obviously the sellers didn't appreciate Steppenwolf. I like the last two albums which I heard on streaming. I shall see in the new year as short on funds at the moment.
Hi Robert, thank you for watching. It is a really good set and and has made me realise there was so much more to this band apart from the hit singles. I hope you have a chance to get it in the new year. Phil
Would love a part 2 of this set. Skullduggery is one of my favorites, though not popular among fans. The title track is just killer. One of my favs of all time.🤟🤟
Hi Mike, thank you for watching. Since getting this box set I have also started to listen to some of their later albums and Skullduggery I loved straight away so I also hope there is a vol 2 box set! Phil :)
Monster was a huge album that really caught on with the politically aware underground movement. I can remember watching school kids performing "Monster" on a Sunday television worship program. Just sayin
Hi Phil, some do not have money to buy all box sets. It word be nice if you have got the and I hnow it's a big ask. But if you pick out what you think are 3 good c.ds and l.p. so we can sample that band, maybe call it something 3 is the magic number, it word give some a way to to see if like it and get into something and expand to more to keep spinning.
* *CORRECTION:!!!* * - It's Larry *B Y R O M* .....his last name ends with an *M.* He was responsible for writing 80% of Steppenwolf 7's material. Im surprised they havenn't corrected that error. Allow me to submit an interview: th-cam.com/video/RCXqhQ5CyWY/w-d-xo.html
i got it last friday and played through it over the weekend, it sounds fabulous and i'm glad they did the gatefold sleeves of the albums as well, it's that attention to detail a lot of reissues forget to do, esoteric do it right as in the Iron butterfly reissue amongst many previous releases. and i always felt that steppenwolf are remembered for 3 songs and little else but the have a fantastic musical catalogue
Hi Ian, very pleased you like it as well. I agree the mini gatefold sleeves add that extra layer of detail and Esoteric / Cherry Red do these CD Box Sets so well. Phil
Phil, Are these cd's from original analog master tapes ? I have Steppenwolf 7, Steppenwolf the Second, Steppenwolf, Steppenwolf All Time Greatest His, and Steppenwolf 2 disc Featuring John Kay. As you know the group disbanded Valentine's Day 1972. John Kay reformed the group in 1975 ! I'm very interested in this new 8 cd set, of course. I see this priced in U.K. at 41.99pounds, here (U.S.) on Amazon pre-order is at $71.99 dollars or 95.47 pounds !!!! Thanks again for the video, nice job. Take care..
This should be made on a box like the Iron Butterfly or Electric Prunes Box set, I really don't like clamshell boxes. Actually i hate them, Nevertheless, the music is great...
Hi, I agree with you and I had not really thought of this. The Iron Butterfly and Electric Prunes boxes are a much better design. The Pentangle Box Set is similar. Phil
@@NowSpinningMagazine I don't understand the clamshell design, so annoying. The other designed box that comes out like UFO, Iron Butterfly makes them function better and they are superior in quality, thicker more practical and much more beautiful... Clamshells are just pain in the ass..hhahah.
I appreciate how quick and to the point you are with these presentations. That said, your enthusiasm and sincerity shine through.
Wow. the great Steppenwolf. Cd-box.....Set.. wonderfull Rock musik. 🎸
I bought the box set and love it. Steppenwolf made a lot of great albums, not just hit songs.
