Y'know how bartenders can cut people off if they're drinking too much? I feel like they should do that with plastic surgery.

    • @lethaldream50
      @lethaldream50 2 ปีที่แล้ว +514

a lot of plastic surgeons actually do refuse to operate on people who've had too much surgery. the problem is this isnt a regulation or law, it's down to the morality of the surgeon, just like it's often down to the morality of the bartender. in the case of many surgeons they are also worried about getting sued probably if they were to operate on someone whose face cannot take any more surgery (otoh you have to sign a lot of waivers before surgeries)
the other thing is that people dont just go to certain foreign countries because the surgery is cheaper there, but often because the doctors there just dont care at all and theres even LESS regulation and no legal risk for if the surgery goes wrong.

Hi, I'm a transwoman who went through with Facial Feminization Surgery (FFS) and what you say is true; Oily is making it seem like this is something you just casually do. But it's really not, after the forehead shaving, chances are you'll have a bit of bone in your eyes that scratches the shit out of it and it hurts like hell. Not only that, it also feels like someone is constantly pulling on your hair because of the lowering for the hairline.. They make it seem easy and not a big deal; but you can definitely lose feeling in parts of your face. I had my chin and jawline done, and they do that by making an incision in your gums, and then pulling your lip down over your chin, I have lost feeling in my chin at a specific place because of it. After 3 days you're still not able to eat; as you said; you're forced to eat liquids for a week or 2. Swelling won't go away for over up to 12 months; so they can be happy now but the changes they'll face might change that.
Oily also skipped the part where your WHOLE HEAD swells up like a helium balloon and make you want to die. But you know, everything for the views.
Also just a general FYI: The surgeon would've never told Oily that they'd look more Asian or make them more Asian or whatever. It is literally a feminization of the features you had before; so Oily's talking some major bullshit. :-) All this did was make their features more feminine. As they requested.

The conversation shouldn't be "I feel more confident in my body. That was great. Other people should totally do this, in fact i might do it again if i feel like it."

The doctors are afraid people would call them transphobic or say they’re racist or ableist or whatever. I went to consult over top surgery, and the doc said: by the time you get that surgery you’ll be on hormones for six months, so that you’re already better as soon as possible.
Like, she pushed hormones on me! So that I won’t perceive her as a bigot or whatever.

"Happy to comply" as she smiled broadly while making direct eye contact with him with her eyes that now had blood-red sclera (her eyes were naturally green, for extra contrast).

Ill be going again come August until October hopefully. I love anime, mangas, and a few Japanese shows. I'm also into K dramas and most recently Thai shows. The point about being a white person who appreciates another culture instead of trying to claim a different ethnic identity is well stated. Just liking Korean stuff doesn't make you Korean. And being Korean doesn't mean that you must love all Korean stuff.
Im a white American and there's a ton of stuff that I dislike or outright hate about my culture and try my best to change.
I think that's the really insulting part of all of this: Oli seems to be saying that being a Korean person is all just eating bulgogi, sitting in cafes and listening to K-Pop. It's just fun and kawai. Like Korea doesn't have its own problems and issues. Like its not a real country at all. Just a giant Lotte World.

Another friend is mixed and people sometimes accuse her of being a white girl who does cultural appropriation (it's not a case of I took an ancestor's test that says I'm 2% Latina, it's a case of my father is Latino, my mother is white and I inherited her red hair).

And I feel kinda offended when a person who doesn't have Korean ancestors claims himself as Korean makin all these excuses and offending the entire nation. He does look a lot like AH and not because of his plastic surgeries but because he is also ready to do everything for people to see him as a member of a group he for real doesn't belong to.

Oh, God. There’s nothing wrong with facial feminization surgery. Some trans women have it and feel much better. If they took the bandages off and said “that makes me feel more like a woman,” fine, but adding “like a Korean woman,” nope nope nope nope.
It’s fine to be a white person who enjoys Korean fashion and food and maybe *learns a little history too* to learn why casually throwing Japanese and Korean together is stupid, (don’t say you look Korean and then throw “kawaii” in there) and the language, which would be awesome, but they’re still a white person. And maybe they could speak up against AAPI hate, which they could do but I have not heard anything about that from them. No one is going to come up to Oli London and say something hateful and hit them because of their deranged ideas about COVID. They could at least be useful.
If they identified as a cat they would do a whole lot less damage. There are people who have surgery to get fangs and stuff, but you can’t do cultural appropriation as a cat. ARGH.

Trans people have gender dysphoria which is treated with a combination of therapy, hormones, and surgery. Race dysphoria simply doesn’t exist.
On another note female and male isn’t strictly X and Y, thats the simplified version they teach to children. There’s many different combinations of chromosomes.

As an Asian person, I feel offended when people just “magically” change their race the next day when they wake up like “Oh I am Korean because I lived in Korea for a year and I love the culture”. No it doesn’t work that way. I don’t just change your race just because I want it to. It’s in YOUR DNA. I may offend some people if they see I write it. So what. It’s 2022. And realistically things do not go like that just because of your race. @@lavalampa3254 heyo! so im not trans but I do have a mild case of body dysmorphic disorder, and theres a very obvious difference to me, ill try my best to explain lol.
I think it boils down to the fact that body dysmorphia is a serious medical condition, while being trans is not a medical condition. You can be dysphoric (different from dysmorphia, they look similar tho so ppl confuse them), but thats a symptom, not a diagnosis or condition, and not all trans people experience it. Being trans is an identity, and taking hormones or having surgery to correct your body so that it matches your identity actually does work for the person in question, and improves their lives immensely.
When you have body dysmorphia however, changing your looks with surgery does NOT work. Youve noticed how often oli has had their "final transformation" yeah? Thats cause for ppl w body dysmorphia, if they change something, they'll love the new look at first, but due to the medical condition they have, they will find something else they don't like to take the last flaw's place very quickly.
Body dysmorphia makes it so you legit do not know what you look like, its basically hallucinating that you're fat or that your nose is too big, when you're actually quite thin and your nose is proportionate, and it goes beyond just a "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" thing. Their brains are fully not interpreting reality as reality when it comes to their bodies. So if they try to correct what they believe to be wrong through surgery, it'll never end, they'll keep getting new things done until it kills them because they'll never not find a new imagined flaw. Plus, they can't have a safe surgery plan for all the work they do cause its so random when they imagine or "discover" a new flaw, theres no way to know what they wanna change next until they wanna change it.
That's why it is not okay for people w body dysmorphia to have surgery like this, its not only validating the delusions they have about how they look, but its physically and mentally harmful to them, and so would never be suggested as treatment. Body dysmorphia is treated through talk therapy, because its about making the person understand they dont look the way they think they do. Trans people know what they look like when they look in the mirror; transitioning hasn't anything to do with delusions and not being able to actually see what you look like, its to do with your gender identity and making it so you not only feel that the outside matches the inside, but that other people identify you as the gender you really are.
The only commonality between being (pre-transition or not) trans and having body dysmorphia, is that both want to look differently to how currently do. Beyond that (including motivation, what to do about it, and where the desire comes from), they're completely unrelated and not medically similar in any way.
That make sense? Idk how well I did, I know I overexplain sometimes and make it confusing on acccident lol, hope it helps you understand a bit why what oli is doing is dangerous and unhealthy while Trans people transitioning is not dangerous beyond medical risks and is healthy tho :)

I was "friends" with Oli, really I was just trying to get close to him so I could write a novel about him. I was in a car with him when he murdered someone, and he forced me to help him hide the body, and incriminate me so badly, no one would believe my side of the story. He got his hair stylist to change my hair, got his surgeons to change my face, and said I had nowhere to go, so we would get to be best friends forever

I learned from my lovely Japanese teacher how to correctly appreciate cultures. He spent much of his life in Japan, learning the culture and language. He then went on to teach those things to others, and teach us how to respect them. If you are infatuated with a culture, NOT a stereotype, then you would understand that the people who belong to that culture do not appreciate bs like what Oli does.

I know she was upset at the end, but a person's understanding and tolerance can only go so far, especially in this kind of situation. Kudos to her.

One of the ways I'm showing my appreciate is by learning the language, finding Korean pen pals, learning about the politics and culture, and trying the food available where I'm located. One day, I'd love to visit the country, but in no way would I EVER claim to be Korean. A) It's discrediting my own heritage and B) that's not my heritage or culture.

I just can't imagine hating your face so much that you'd mess with it so drastically. Your face is probably the first thing people notice about you. I'd be so scared to mess with anything because you can't exactly reverse it to be exactly the way it was before surgery. The nice thing about natural beauty is that it is unique and something you got from your ancestors, which is so special. I love seeing the features that I got from my mom and grandma, though I completely understand why someone who doesn't have good relationships with family wouldn't like this part.
