Here's a fun fact for yall. Croatian band Riva won the 1989 ESC, representing Yugoslavia. However, while the 1990 ESC was to be held in Belgrade, it was moved to Zagreb. It was the first and only contest held in a communist/socialist state.
Toto Cotugno won that year with his beautiful "Insieme"

1990 ESC was never ment to be held in Belgrade, it was won by RT Zagreb and they had first pick on hosting, in fact RTZ dominated that period in Yugovizija and Eurovision was cherry on top. But there was an idea of Eurovision being held in Zadar, hometown of winners, with some local companies financing majority of costs, including construction of Concert Hall, but it was not seen as feasible. Zadar did held Jugovizija that year.

​@@plivajucipauk7742 there are some rumors rtz was dominating in the late years of yugoslavia bc they wanted to keep the unity of the country and not make it all about belgrade. fun fact n.2: zagreb hosting esc in 1990 was really helpful in the upcoming years bc rtz/hrt got bunch of new equipment that helped them reporting from war affected parts of croatia.
