    I just appreciate how Rest of the World voted for Aijā (8 points, more than for Tatto) and it shows how people all around the world recognized how Latvia underrated is (even they have not big diaspora outside the EU)!
    Eaea, Future Lover, Évidemment and Duje had some necessary love in the Grand Final too!
    Generally I really loved how they voted!

    ESC has lots of fans in Latin America, but it's a mistake to assume we're gonna vote for Spain just because.

      Deban made a LOT of wrong assumptions in this video, some of which were downright offensive.

    I think we can start talking about diaspora bias if the same countries with huge immigrant populations start getting in the ROTW vote every year. Maybe 5 years from now we can identify clear patterns. As of right now, it's just speculation.

    While Armenia does have a big diaspora, I don't think anyone can say that that was the only factor driving up Brunette's points in the rest of the world. R&B seems to be much more popular in the states than in Europe. So while "Future Lover" got panned by some europeans for being niche and kinda weird sounding, it's probably one of the only songs from this year's contest I could imagine getting radio play here. Sometimes tastes are different in other places

    Noa Kirel's song and performance incorporated some K-Pop elements. Therefore, I thought that, given the genre's immense global popularity, it was one of the factors contributing to Israel receiving the highest score. I also agree William that Israel, Armenia, and Albania could've made it to the top due to the significant population from those countries sharing the same religion and culture living around the globe. And if I'm not mistaken, there are more Albanians living abroad than in Albania.

    Greetings from Brazil! 🇧🇷
    In the final, I voted for Finland and Australia! I couldn't vote in the first and second semis, but I would totally have given my 20 points to Latvia and I was really proud the Rest of the World appreciated it.
    I just thought the vote from the Rest of the World was reallyyy expensive. One single vote cost more than a bus ticket here! 😱

    I totally agree with the last statement. We should get the disaggregated results per countries, but rather to know if our votes in Latin America are of enough weight or if we are instead diluted into votes from other more largely populated and wealthier regions. Casting a vote for us is quite expensive (I only voted 10 times due it's costs) and is quite nonsensical to do it if, for example, we are competing against China or India's vote. That could be a reason for why they don't disclose the extended results, but if that's the case, they could revise that (probably by weighting the results with the total population of each country) in order to make the votes more representative of the worldwide taste.
    Greetings from Argentina!
    P.S. I'm actually venezuelan, so it was nice to see that you have my country very much in mind haha.

    I'd be curious to see the differences between the SF ROTW voters and the Final ROTW voters. I'd suspect that the SF ROTW voters may be a tad more representative of the "fandom" vs the final's votes. For example, Latvia being a niche fan favourite that grew on a lot of people in the fandom.

  • @mentonerodominicano

    I agree with William! I have been waiting to see a detailed list of who these non-participating countries voted for. I guess the numbers were not super impressive (maybe less than 10k votes?) so ESC doesn't want to create a conversation that could undermine The Rest of the World vote.

    Loved being able to vote in Eurovision this year! It’s hard to say that votes are diaspora based vs having similar cultural and musical tastes. My family in New Zealand loved the Australian entry, not because they are close to our country, and we certainly don’t come from Australia….we just really loved the song.

    I was very disappointed that the ROWV was not announced during the show, like the votes from the participating countries. Well, the people, who could have done it, could be the hosts or specially invited celebrities. And the organisers could have made a real act out of the ROWV presentation.

    I think they should do a ROW per continent each with 20% weight and then basing the aggregated score according to it.
    This way less “bias” is resulted.

    In the end when Deban says Spain could have more points from Latin America...GIRL I TRIED FOR 2 YEARS, FOR 2 YEARS HUNTEY!
    I tried livestreaming Benidorm in 2022 and 2023 and I had people from all over Latin America in my stream, I am talking Colombia, Peru, Argentina, Brasil; Chili etc, plus people from Middle America like Costa Rica and Mexico.
    RTVE needs to get with the times and Open Up to Ruben Reacts (one of the best slogans of Eurovision for several reasons ).
    I was even dancing my ass off and giving a free show promoting RTVE and for people from Latin America to enjoy on my channel and on this free platform we call TH-cam

    I think Latvia got 8 points from the ROTW because Latvia was a huge fan favorite on Eurovision reddit specifically, and they all wanted it to go through. So they all bought votes for it, including me. I think the ROTW in the semi's could be dominated by Eurovision fans.

    Diaspora and connection to a specific country is absolutely a factor, just a matter of if it's 0.01% of the factor or more significant. Diaspora isn't going to win you top points alone (unless the field is so even), but it can offer a boost.

  • @mkpuzzles
    @mkpuzzles 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    The RoW vote should have more power because there are multiple countries voting in the RoW, yet they still have the same power as Germany or San Marino. It also elevates countries that don't really have a diaspora to hope for when recieving points. While yes I do agree with keeping the jury, giving RoW more power, there would more power for the televote. Tough, these are only my toughts so don't take me seriously.

    It probably takes a couple of years before we can establish a powerful diaspora vote, for example through recurring (high) points regardless of the results by the viewers. And then it is unclear to me whether a strong diaspora vote would be problematic. It is only one result out of (hopefully) 40, if you include jury votes one out of 80. It probably won't spoil the contest but it is an extra revenue stream that might come in handy.

    C´mon Deban, i understand you like Armenian´s song but clearly they came 3rd in the ROTW vote bc of the diaspora...Israel, Armenia and Albania will pretty much always be in the top 10 of the ROTW vote, unless the song is really bad or they don´t qualify. I´d love to see how each country voted, maybe not show the votes bc of perhaps low amount of votes but rather the % of just their top 3?

  • @Wamubodo
    @Wamubodo 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I think in the end the result wasn't biased because of diaspora/ migration. I was a bit worried though. Maybe Poland ended up in the final because of that but we only have one answer: Finland! I've had years where you could have predicted the juryscores (2000 - 2010 especially) but the last years it's changing. RoW has little impact on the results and should stay because of the feeling of it: we can vote. You're part of it. Being from the Netherlands I've rooted for Lithuania, Ukrain, Spain..... I really hope in this time of turmoil we can still hold on to thiis feeling. ESC is getting more commercial but the community isn't. I think we should go for 'cultural heritage'!

    We have a more broad taste in the ROTW in my opinion. I remember watching ESC2016 and commenting with other Canadians that the Germany entry would not end last if we were the ones voting. I do think diaspora plays a role but not much.

    I'm a Latin American eurofan and I can say that just because we speak the same language it doesn't mean we will vote for Spain. The relation between LATAM and Spain isn't the same as Greece and Cyprus. In the last 10 years, if the ROW would've been implemented before, we would've only voted for SloMo and La Venda. Most of us like upbeat, summer and reggaeton feel with lots of dancing songs. Now, take a look of what songs Spain has sent. Flamenco (Eaea) is a style that we are familiar with, for obvious reason, but it doesn't mean we like it or it's popular here. Also, nowadays, lots of people here know English too, so the language thing isn't as important as it would've been in the 90's or 2000's. Although if Spain send a good that really make us vote for it, we'd do it. But stop saying Spain is gonna win the ROW voting because of LATAM. Before the contest, I watched videos of people saying taht and I was like Yall don't know sh*t about us 😅😂. It will depend of the song.
