      Mark Garrett I thought the kid was really good also. I never see anyone give him any credit. Of course he was overshadowed by Kratos, but the boy had to be sad, mad, unstable at times, sassy to his father, obstinate, and even during battle.....it all worked. A lot of times a child actor can RUIN an otherwise good show. OR, they have an adult female voice act a boy. The kid was a big part of this story, and often times Kratos’ lines were emotionless. The whole cast was excellent. The kid stood out to me though.

    Crazy. He straight up admitted that this reinvigorated his career. Seems like he was giving up but now he's got his handprints on gaming history. I'm low key salty that he said video games are considered stupid amongst his acting peers, but I'm smirking because this'll show them. Those peers of his starred in many more movies than he did, but they weren't the main character of one of the highest rated, most respected, highest grossing pieces of entertainment of all time. Beautiful, really.

    • @irgendwiecharmant64
      @irgendwiecharmant64 5 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      Actors, new or past prime, look for acting chances everywhere, all the time. Still, acting in a traditional movie is still the safer path, and objectively less work. In gaming, a few lead actors have to carry the whole game, while not showing their faces, which in turns lead to less recognition. Do you think people like Tom Cruise would drop their lucrative Mission Impossible to star in Uncharted? This guy's big break in God of War is still no proof of anything, and it will certainly not "show them" anything. If anything, if you're lucky enough to have a discernable voice, a big nostalgic name, or name was tied to a past franchise people cared about, then you may have a chance to be spoon fed a big gaming project. Not any deep voice buff dude can land a role in God of War.

      That perspective is changing FAST. Now every actor is frantically looking to be in the next "God of War" kind of blockbuster, what with Keanu Reeves in Cyberpunk 2077. A well written game is basically an interactive movie.

    • @REChronic54
      @REChronic54 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I think there's a stigma against videogames in general. Nobody really bothers to look into the process of developing games or care about it as an art form. Yeah there are shooter games that have huge fanbases but we have games like God of War, The Last of Us, Uncharted...and they're just as a good as a movie or a tv show; maybe even more visceral. It's just that nobody knows that or believes it.

    • @Tenchigumi
      @Tenchigumi 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      The stigma towards videogames has decreased dramatically in recent years, as the millenials who grew up on them are now the grown adults who can think critically about the merits of game design, storytelling, and artistic value. The era of Roger Ebert's (RIP) antiquated perspective on video games has passed, and more people understand how video games are capable of telling stories that can match and transcend conventional media in uniquely interactive ways. Right from the beginning of this interview, Chris Judge points out that society as a whole has developed greater expectations for video game storytelling, and those expectations will only continue to grow with time.
      As to whether mainstream actors will look to video games for their landmark roles, I'm indifferent. Perhaps Tom Cruise won't quit his job as Silver Screen Ambassador to Scientology to star in a video game, but that's fine by me. I'd be more than happy seeing less Kiefer Sutherlands getting overpaid to do less work than his peers. Not all actors are suited for this kind of work, and they don't need to be. We should foster the Nolan Norths and Troy Bakers we already have, folks who've paid their dues in the gaming industry. They're already doing fantastic work. Newcomers like Chris Judge are just a bonus. Either way, as video games become more respected, there will be greater opportunities for actors across the board to make their mark, and yes, games like God of War definitely "shows them."
      All that said, I personally hope that Keanu Reeves finds his way into more video games. He's a perfect fit for literally anything.

I've never understand how Momoa kept getting bigger and bigger roles after Stargate but Judge didn't. I wish them both success, but I think Judge is the superior actor. He can do so much with just his voice and his eyes, let alone just regular acting. I would have loved to have seen him in Black Panther or Black Lightning. And he's not a bad script writer!

I just don’t see him carrying any major project the way a guy like Mamoa can. They are both from the Stargate franchise though which is interesting. You never know. Chris is also into his 50’s. Hard to build any real momentum at that age. I hope he does get the work he thinks he can get now. Just don’t think it’s realistic.

    Seeing Teal'c as Kratos started as a heartwarming easter egg for me, having watched SG universe stuff growing up, but hearing the actor talk freely, not being afraid of going into politics (wich so many actors seem to shy away from) and the worrisome state of the world, the role and changes of entertainment, etc, made me realize once more the understated and growing value of those types of games in storytelling.
    He's wrong about one thing though, 2018's GoW didn't bridge the gap between gaming and valuable storytelling, it's always been out there, simply not as accessible. Yet GoW has certainly reached the summit of that art.

    What's interesting to me is that Teal'c and Kratos are fairly similar characters; they're both soldiers that worked for a god (or "god" in the case of the Goa'uld) they really shouldn't have done and are seeking a second chance to make things right.
    There are definitely differences between them, one being that Kratos gave up on the gods a lot quicker than Teal'c did with the Goa'uld. And another being that Teal'c tried a lot harder to avoid collateral damage whilst Kratos quite literally accidentally destroyed Greece.

    I think we are finally starting to break through to all of the out of touch fools in Hollywood and in modern society, that ignorantly believe video games are a waste of time, and are a lesser medium than sport/cinematic entertainment or are only for losers/kids.
    Video games are art, and in my opinion more so than movies. God Of War as a video game was more engaging, more personal, more touching, more emotional, more epic and overall simply more impressive than almost any movie released in the last decade, and it was only the start. With Ragnarok knocking at the door I have hope that people will begin to see that video games like this are more than just a passtime for young people, they are art, they touch people, affect their lives and change their perspectives. They can inspire people to change, not only their personal temperament, but their world views as a whole.

    Kratos vs Teal’c would not end happily. On one hand you have a God that kills other gods. On the other a Jaffa who does the same! They almost have the same backstory, so they would fight it out and then maybe Kratos proves he isn’t a Goa’uld to Teal’c.
