Welcome to Collen Hoover lolol She breaks our heart then puts it back together when you think there is no hope at all. When you are ready you should try more. My favs are All your perfects, Verity and Confess. Your are gonna love it just as much as it is gonna hurt.
This is my 6th book I read by Colleen Hoover. Since this review is from 1 year ago, I’m hoping you read some more of her books as well. I just finished this one. I loved it so much, as much as I love her others. I felt much of the same as you did. Extremely emotional, highly conflicted and completely resolved by the end. For whatever reason, I didn’t feel phased that she was with Ledger, despite him being Scotty’s best friend. I think Colleen has such a graceful way of pushing aside societal boundaries. I wonder if her decision to not put any weight on the possible betrayal the both of them could have felt about that conflict is simply because there were heavier emotions involved. Yeah, she could have spent time creating that conflict. But she chose to give us time with deeper emotions. I think the best friend thing is surface level. And I love how she still acknowledged it with that simple line from Patrick. Just one line. Thats what I take away from it at least. There are bigger emotions at play. I also think some of the quotes in this book are ones to live by. The ones you mentioned and the one where she talks about how everyone is born with the same amount of evil and good in them. How peoples evil spills into the world in different ways. And depending on how much spills out at once, the effect it has on the world is different. I just thought a lot of things were beautifully put in this novel.
It's so nice to see a review of one of her books that isn't just tearing her apart. I've read about 5 or 6 of her books at this point and reminders of him us my favorite.
I completely agree with everything you said!! Besides the weirdness with the whole best friend thing, just bc I’ve seen the trope before and I’m familiar with it. But The sadness I had while reading everything omg.
This is also the first CH book I've read and I've heard a lot of good and bad things about her over the years but I wasn't ready for how heavy, heartbreaking and painful the entire thing was. The audiobook had me tearing up so fast that I genuinely emotionally feel like if this is the work CH is putting out, I cannot handle reading more of her stuff for some time. It was all so sad and I was crying and blowing my nose every other chapter.
I‘ve read 3 CoHo books (It ends with us, reminders of him, Layla) and I have to say that reminders of him was by far the most emotional wrenching one so if you want something not that sad, you should consider reading Layla which is really interesting and it’s sooo different from reminders of him oder it ends with us. :)
Have you read "It ends with us"? If you haven't, you definitely should, and read it before "It starts with us" comes out, so you have enough time to recover! hahaha
Probably I'm the only one who feels this way, but I kind of feel like Kenna and Ledger are better together than she and Scotty. Not sure why, but for the tidbits we got of their relationship, I feel like theirs wouldn't have suffice had he not died.
I literally got done with this book, drove to a little free library, and gave it away. If I ever see that book again, it will be too soon. That being said….. 5 stars for sure.
I just finished this and loved it(4.5)… It Ends With Us is my fav CoHo(5.0)… Verity was really good(4.25)… November 9(3.5) & Ugly Love(3.0) were enjoyable but didn’t do much for me
I read the book last month I was surprised how much I enjoyed it because I didn't enjoy her two previous books I put it on my list of best books of 2023⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I love how this book highlights that people are so grey
