The way Colleen Hoover describes what happened the night of the accident was just mind blowing. The way she explained with so much detail was just amazing. I actually felt my throat close up. I felt like I was right there. The letter Kenna wrote about the accident was just a lot to process but writing something in such a beautiful and painful manner with so much intricacy is a talent only colleen hoover possess.
I literally feel the same exact way about this book!!! I felt so conflicted when it was over because I felt like I should love it more, and in a way I did love it- but also hated it? I think that’s the beauty of Colleen Hoover though, her books will make you think. Loved your review!!
I 100% agree that reading this gave me so much anxiety! I was just curious how it was going to turn for the better because literally felt like 99% misery coming from the characters and plot. Even all the loving moments seemed masked by so much sadness. Definitely a good book but does not leave you feeling that happy!
I feel like this is easily one of my favorite books ive ever read, probably top three. I finished it last night - literally took me maybe 10 hours to read this book, which has to be a record for me lol. I personally love that Ledger and Kenna end up together and to me it just makes sense. I love how you brought up It Ends With Us in comparison. I think that book for me was a lot more painful to read and as you mentioned about Reminders of Him, I have no desire to reread It Ends With Us because of how heavy it was. Maybe I love this book because of the happier ending that I wasn't sure we would get. I have NEVER cried so much for a book. I feel like every conversation that Kenna and Ledger had ended up with me crying because I empathized with Kenna so much. Also, sometimes letters in books bother me, but WOW this was just different.
Spoiler alert - I just think the love plot didn't need to happen, I would have felt better if Ledger and Kenna became friends. It felt wrong to me, like a betrayal to scotty I don't know people might feel differently about it. And I also cringed at the name Kenna gave to her son. I get the emotions behind it but at the end of the day it was still her dead boyfriend's name. Again; people might find it heartwarming. I really liked the book though.
Yes to all of this-I feel like the parents forgiving her was possible, but them being a couple and naming Diem’s 1/2 sibling after him was just weird to me. I can’t explain why, but it feels odd.I did love the book overall though.
To me it felt like insta-love, forced attraction type of novel. But the angst and rollercoaster of emotions will make you so conflicted and interested so I get why some people love it.
I just finished the book, and it literally tore me up! I can’t even really describe it. Truly this book gave me Daisy and The Six vibes of forgetting that it wasn’t real people, haha.
I know this is an older comment, but I had to respond to it. I had the exact same reaction when I read Daisy Jones and the Six! I was devastated that they were not real people. That book tore me into a thousand pieces, it was so amazing. As for Reminders of Him, I cried like a baby by the end. Beautiful, heartbreaking, and incredible book. Ledger telling Patrick "Scotty would be so mad at us!" That whole scene punctured my soul.
This was my first Colleen Hoover book and I agree I spent most of this book angry and distraught like WHAT? HOW? !! But I did like how it ended I just wish it was a bit longer so I could of gotten more time with the happy versus how much time was spent to get to that point!! I’m on my way to read more books by Colleen Hoover! I wouldn’t say this is my Favorite but I did love the Interactions between Kenna and Ledger!! 💙💙
I am about 70 percent through this book and I can usually pound a Colleen hoover book down in a day or two, but because of how anxious it makes me, I’m on day 4 lol. So I completely understand why you felt this way - alas, we will still read the queens work! Love her. Great review!
About the feelings we have while we read Coleen's books: she starts to pay for at least a talk with a psychologist after we finish each of her books. Like have a voucher attached to each book or something... 😅
I don't know how I feel about this book tbh. I have a few chapters left and it is taking me the longest time to finish it. I have to finish and rate but for now i give it like 3 ⭐
I completely agree! I love Colleen Hoover but this book honestly just made me super depressed and anxious because the situation was so awful! It was a beautiful book but I just felt really sad reading it!
I wanted to watch this video yesterday, but was still around 50%, but as soon as I read that you've never been so conflicted, I felt you. I'm sure you were explaining your feelings better than I would. I finished it now, and as much as I love the ending, the beautiful writing and the dual pov (cause I'm all for it) I felt like the hype around this book was that high that I should have love it more??? I litterally spent like 5 months avoiding reviews and spoilers that I was kinda disappointed??? I still rated it a 4 star, tho, but doesn't get to 5 for me. There was things I didn't like such as the "rush" in explaining the night of the accident? I don't know.. I don't even know how to explain what this book has left me.
Regretting You also has a car accident. I wonder if she likes writing about car accidents. This was the first Colleen book I read and I’m about to finish my 3rd one. I’m almost finished with Heart Bones.
I devoured this book but I totally thought I would love it more due to everyone hyping it up. It definitely was true colleen hoover writing. I kind of was hoping kenna and ledger would just be friends and raise diem
CoHo is very good at writting stories about people that are broken lol this book was good. Less dark than ItEndsWithUs. I wonder if she might make a sequel to this one. Probably introduce more of the Kennas mother. 🤔
I don’t want to sound like a “weak person” but does this have a happy ending? I dislike books with unhappy endings and that is a question I always have to ask before I commit to reading a book… so is it happy or unhappy? Edit: also you said it’s beautiful but beautiful isn’t always happy (if that makes sense 😅)
The ending is so happy, you read the book and it’s sad and raw and real and the ending makes everything so worth it. I cried happy tears at the end I genuinely love this book
We need a complaint form: How did Colleen Hoover hurt you? Lol. I love all of her books. I’ve only read IEWU once. I’m not sure I’ll revisit it. I’ve read some of her others numerous times. ROH might not be reread any time soon. But I do love it.
With this comment i'm not trying to judge anyone who enjoyed this book because the author is popular and many people are biased, you're told a book is amazing and you believe that naturally and instead of pointing out it's flaws you look for the good things. The message and the way they portrayed the main character as a woman was incorrect and harmful. Firstly the accident, we in the U.S learn to not drink and drive from a young age, if not from a parent then from a teacher, friend, classmate, or firsthand experience. Even if not from childhood going into adulthood you know not to drink and drive, it's something you are taught growing. The main character drinking and driving was the first problem, you're and adult and should make mature decisions I don't care if this book isn't real, talk to any psychologist, fantasy is practice for the future. Second, after the acciden't she leaves her boyfriend there in a drunken fit. I can understand confusion but the fact she didn't call the police is excused way too easily. She is then given 6 years for man slaughter. This was female privilage we talk in the American society about male privelage, it's beneficial to talk about the struggles of being a woman we have things to wrok but lets think about it clearly. IF KENNA WERE A MAN NO ONE WOULD EXCUSE THIS. I genuinely feel this way, I don't think any man could kill his girlfriend drunk driving get 6 years manslaughter, get out have sex with the dead girlfriend's best friend, get his dead girlfriend kid back, and then get celebrated. That's why this author chose to put a woman in the first place because in this scoiety for some odd reason we excuse men or women so much more than the other. How could we look at what this character did and wasnt her to live this happy maazing life she down't deserve. My best friend was killed in a drunk driving accident her murderer served 10 years. An innocent human being was taken from me. My best friend will never find love, get married, have kids, graudate, watch her kids graduate, celebrate christmas, or ever celebrate her birthday ever again and today her murderer walks free. Why do we forgive drunk drivers and give them a second chance when the victim will never get a second chance. The victim never will walk the earth or experience life ever again. Why in this book do we look at a horrible person and suddenly think I HOPE SHE GETS A HAPPY ENDING. why? I mean why would I feel empathy for something that felt nothing and left nothing for the victim. Third, the fact that she couldn't control herself knowing what she did to an inncent ma and chose to have sex with his best friend is disgusting. BOTH PARTIES ARE AT EQUAL FAULT. If she truly wanted to be a good mother she would have said I'm going to control myself and respect my child's father anf her fathers parents. She also didn't work hard to give that kid anything like she had a job but she was more focused on having sex with her dead boyfriend's best friend, the dead boyfriend she killed. Fourth the parents were justified in all the anger they felt they don't have to forgive the person that killed their only child, left his body, disrespected him further by having sex with his bestfriend, and then tries to take thir only child's - child away from them who they raised and cared for. If you don't want those things to happen to yuor only son why would you justify this book in any way? At the same time Would you like to be killed in a drunk driving accident by your partner left on the ide of the road for dead and in death watch that partner betray you and your child further with the person you considere your bestfriend? Fifth I undertsand this book is non-fiction but fantasy is practive if you justify this then I want you to justify it happening to you because drunk driving is ver real and so is betrayal after death
This was an easy book to fly through but at the same time it wasn’t. It completely tore my soul up. I would never want to read it again and I would call this my favorite Colleen Hoover book.
