Giving crown at the end of RCT is very counter productive. What I mean is that an RCT treated tooth is already weak at the crown and over that during crown prep more of enamel is removed. So basically to provide strength to the tooth you are cutting off the hardest part of that tooth. A composite restoration will be enough. Remember leakage happens even with a crown at the finish line. No dentist or the lab can make a 100% perfect hermetically sealed finish line.
@@pragya5668 do you think if over 50% of tooth is missing on that you do a core build up then reduce the tooth by trimming off the remaining 50% of enamel to give a crown will provide additional strength? placing a crown over an already weak tooth is like making a building on poor foundation. Many at times the entire crown breaks off along with the tooth. I have done cases with over 50% enamel loss and completed rct with only composite restoration and it works perfect. Worst possible case you can redo a broken composite core but redoing a crown is not easy.
I used to think same But practically it doesn't work, pt came after 4,5 years with blackish tooth n when I noticed there was carious band between composite n tooth because of leaching.. Mostly it was not seen in pt I had put crown Its my persnol observation...
@@homemaker181 That means the composite core was done improperly without proper isolation. In that case you are suggesting that crowning is a safer alternative.....so every tooth should be crowned.........what about a class 1 or 2 composite restorations? Do you think that needs crown too, because according to you even that will fail and have a carious band?
I totally agree that to make 100%hermetically sealed finish line is not possible and also reducing enamel ,further weakens the tooth and reducing healthy enamel from other walls of tooth and later improper seal of crown that is placed there ,may further lead to, food lodgement and caries in adjacent tooth as well...So what are the indications for a crown according to u ??? After root canal treatment

I agree..but what should be done if the tooth is grossly carious and a composite restoration is not sufficient to bear occlusal forces?
