When I make annies I add nutritional yeast a pinch of salt and a little extra unsweet almond milk.. if I am eating unhealthy I add a little extra vegan butter too and its really good
The Annie’s creamy shells is my fav to keep on hand BUT you have to add more plan milk, make sure you add butter and I also add a ton of nooch 🙈 also for Daiya- get the one labeled as NEW and it tastes so much better! Chao is also AMAZING but it’s $6 for each one and only available at one store around me 😭
I miss the earth balance vegan cheddar Mac & cheese. That one tasted exactly like the kraft boxed Mac & cheese. I’m not sure why they discontinued them :(
Although I'm not a huge fan of the original Annie's brand vegan mac and cheese made with the sweet potatoes- they also make a really good "Cheddar" boxed vegan mac and cheese that is really good! Daiya cheddar was always my fave until we found the Annie's vegan "cheddar"- it reminds me of exactly how the original Kraft boxed mac and cheese tasted! For anyone wanting to try it though- make sure you get the box that says "Cheddar" Vegan mac and cheese- because as stated in the video- the original is not so much like what you expect mac and cheese to taste like (it's not bad- just different than what you expect when you are craving mac and cheese). Not sure how widely available the "cheddar" vegan version is- as we only have one store around where I live that carries it- but if you happen to see it on the shelf when you are out shopping- it's definitely worth trying!

Thank you so much for doing this! I've been vegan for almost two years now and the dairy cravings have not stopped. Kraft mac and cheese was my absolute favorite growing up so I'm looking for something kind of similar but specialty vegan food like this gets very pricey and I want to cry every time I drop 10 dollars on something only to not like it and have to toss it. I used to put Valentina hot sauce on my kraft mac and so far I've only bought Annie's shells and have to drown it in Valentina to eat it. My homemade cashew sauce has been the best cheeze I've tried so far but my blender can barely handle it and I need a food processor before I try again. Very very grateful for your video! I saw chao mac in my local co-op yesterday and written online reviews are sparse so I really appreciate getting your seal of approval before dropping 8 dollars for what I've heard is a small serving!

If you're a million dollar celeb, getting flak for looking whack is part of the game ... heck, Joan Rivers made a whole show based on that. :) I guess we'll disagree about agreeing to disagree then. Anyway, the point is that the Vegan View's got it goin' on, they do a real good thing that for my money is better than "The View" on TV ... but then, I'm not the target audience for Meghan, Joy, and company.

The Amy's rice mac and cheese is super good! It's gluten free and it comes frozen you just microwave it but a lot of reviews also say it's the closest to the boxed mac and cheese! It's a bit pricey and not a big portion but worth trying or have it once in a while! :)
In Southern AZ, Walmart carries the Chao mac n cheese, both flavors. When I first became Vegan, I went all in. I didn't transition, because I knew that I would still want to have regular cheese and I felt like nothing would ever compare. I didn't even bother with processed vegan foods pretending to be something that they are not. I didn't want to discourage myself; Just in case they were bad. Just at the beginning of this year, I splurged and bought some of the Chao original flavor 'cheese'. My non-Vegan husband and 4 year tried it and they squished their faces up and one said, "YUCK!" and the other said, "I don't like it.". I DO think it has a coconut after taste, but I don't mind it so much.
IMO the daiya cheddar is nasty! Totally has the bad aftertaste going on. I thought the alfredo was much more pleasant. I so wish I could find the Chao varieties. Amy's gluten free/dairy free in the frozen section is by far my fave.=) You need to try it!
I guess I never got weirded out by the Daiya flavors. I've loved it since my first try. Also, Daiya with the veggies is my favorite...SO GOOD! Italians make a lot of pasta with veggies. Pasta and peas is one dish. It's a red sauce with frozen peas and the hat shaped pasta. The peas get in the hats and add this really awesome texture.
In england we have vegan powdered cheese sauce packets at the Tesco. I love making mac n cheese with it cause I can make the sauce how thick I want and use my favorite noddles!
Those were my favorites in same order too. I also love the Amy's microwavable meal which I hated when I first went Vegan in September of 2016 but that was because they use Daiya cheese.
Back home in MA the only roads end we had was the gluten and dairy free one (the yellow box). I made the cheese with regular noodles, buffalo tempeh and just ranch. It was amazing! Maybe it's was a different cheese or the buffalo and ranch flavors took over lol
They have it at Walmart near me too. I like to just melt chao slices into a sauce, it’s basically the same thing but you can get more pasta out of it. The price of the chao Mac and cheese is crazy for the small portion they give you

A brand of mac and cheese that I swear by is Amy's Kitchen Rice noodle Mac! one its sooooooo cheesy and you don't even notice its gluten-free I swear, I HATE gluten-free pasta. Its really good

Believe it or not, you can find the chao mac & cheese at Walmart. I saw someone online say they got it there & I just recently found it. I actually just tried it yesterday, I cooked in the oven and a lot of the top shells got crunchy. I expected to love it, and wish I had microwaved it instead because it lost something with the crunchy shells.
Oddly enough I found the Mac n chao at my local Walmart. But couldn’t find it at my Whole Foods. But I found the chao slices at Whole Foods and not Walmart.
Huh! That it is funny but we’re glad that there are vegan options at both places at least. Hopefully vegan food will become more and more accessible and we create more demand 🙌
The Vegan View me too. I’m not vegan yet but I have started incorporating some vegan foods and meals. I’m just so happy it’s becoming a lot easier for me to find vegan options.
The upton's one is super good when you order it from the Upton's Break room place (the bacon mac) but I find that all of the boxed ones don't have enough sauce.

Funny how different everyone’s taste is - I really like the Upton and Road’s End but not any of the Daiya ones. I actually threw the Daiya ones out after a couple of bites - tried the cheddar and Alfredo. The Chao ones are good but expensive and super rich. One thing they did not mention is which ones were gluten free - I think the Daiya ones are and I believe for me that is one of the reasons I don’t like them.
I didnt know there were so many types of mac and cheese available. Most of that I've never even seen carried where I am but perhaps I will find your favs sometime and give them a try!

that's a great tip! Onion powder and black pepper is so important in vegan cheese sauces. I use it in my recipe too :)

Just an FYI, though the Daiya Mac and Cheese may be yummy, it is not whole food as one of the women stated. It is vegan, but it's processed.

I love the daiya macs but I find it tastes so much better if you only use like 2/3 of the sauce packet. It’s just too overwhelming.
