Thanks! The window on my '90 f250 just stopped going up, and this is a huge help. Next time you're using a stainless driver & wish it were magnetic, a dab of grease also works (as long as you're OK with getting grease on the fasteners, of course...)
Be careful when drilling the holes. My bit grabbed like it does when drilling through sheet metal causing it to go clear in and hit the head of the bolt, knicking it bad enough that I couldn't get the nut driver on it! 9 mm was too big, 8 mm wouldn't go on, and 5/16 wouldn't go on Finally had to cut a bigger hole to get at the bolt.
You could also just put the window up and tape it, then drill out the rivets holding the whole assembly (window regulator and motor) and then take it out and do this repair on a bench. The only downside is that you need a rivet gun and a basic rivet set to put it back together.
