THANK YOU SO MUCH! I went from live crashes, dropouts, and crackles, to a clean and reliable, low CPU using set that is very professional. So great, def. subscribed and will recommend.
I’m all new to the whole midi world, and having somewhere to go to, like this video, is really helpful. I’m following your channel, and learning step by step how powerful this tool is. 🙏🏻
Thank you, David for this video!! I just have a couple of days with mainstage and, I was stuck looking for where was Space Designers 'cause it was eating all my resources. And you helped me with this. I'm already enrolled for the MainStage Starter Course. Many many thanks!! God bless you all!!
Thank you very much for the information it was very helpful I am brand new to the main stage three and you tutorial and information is guiding me through this beginner stage so once again thank you very much
Thank you for this good primer on maximizing a user’s MainStage experience. Learned some new capabilities about MS. I’ve been using MainStage for both touring ensembles and worship uses since the first version of MainStage, and have found that the single biggest factor for a trouble free experience is RAM. Simply put, the more RAM in your setup, the less issues you have with MainStage stumbling or crashing. Same goes for the size of your internal hard drive - the bigger the better - especially if you are using external sound libraries. I usually don’t use the built in sounds provided by Apple, preferring the libraries from Native Instruments and Spectrasonics - both which can be CPU hogs - so for folks that also tend towards outside sound libraries I also recommend as many cores as you can afford. Because Apple has made it more difficult or impossible to upgrade RAM in their newer machines, I recommend that newer users buy their machine with as much RAM and internal SSD drive space as they can afford. There is never too much RAM/storage space. My current MBP is a 4 core/16GB RAM/1TB SSD drive, and it operates flawlessly running over 25-30 patches per concert with multiple NI/Spectraonics iterations per patch. Thanks again for this video!
Thanks a lot for the tutorial! Didn't know about these factors affecting the CPU, I thought the sample size would be the only major thing affecting the latency.
Excellent tutorial. Could you make an optimization tutorial for studio use? I use my mac mini for a midi sound engine and Luna as my main DAW. I am using and ADAT usb interface that outputs 8 channels to my apollo hardware. I am struggling with setting up multiple synths on separate channels and setting up separate audio outs.
We are glad it was helpful for you! I'm not sure if we can help with that, but feel free to send us an email explaining all the specifics about what you've tried so far and what isn't working and we can see if we can help: sundaysounds.com/contact
Thank you! Interesting comments on hardware having limitations that cannot be exceeded. My Kronos can definitely max out on polyphony and it will allow you to prioritise certain patches (Progs) over others in that situation.
Perhaps off topic but do you know of 88 weighted controllers that have a numeric pad so you can just punch up sounds on the fly like you would with a synth?? I haven’t come across any that have the numeric pad? Thx
I just downloaded Sunday guitar last night and out of the chute I’m throwing overload messages before I even started playing. Looks like I’ve got a lot of tweaking to do.😩. Here’s hoping everything in this video gets me up and running quickly for some upcoming gigs I have to play. 😁

Does this happen for every patch/different MainStage concerts? You may try increasing your buffer size to 512 to see if there is any difference in audio stability.
Since this video has come out Space Designer isn't as much of a problem as it once was, since most computers are now much more powerful. However if you'd still like an alternative, you can dial in some great reverb sounds using the Silververb plugin.
Bro... I need help.... From u... Pls help... Me..... The problem is..... Lagging.... If I touch 1 patch ... It remains in same.... After 1-2 min.. It changes..... The sound is so horrible.... Getting... Lagging in sound...
Hi Timothy, you'll want to make sure the number of patches in the patch list is low. Also, you'll want to use an audio interface to help with that if you are using the built in output. Reach out to us at info@sundaysounds.com if you need more help!
Thanks for a very informational very vid!! I’m new to mainstage and am looking for a laptop to purchase. What would you say is the absolute minimum required? I’m reading about i7 vs i5 and dual core vs quad core. I’m looking to run to have one concert open with about 8 to 10 sounds possibly Including horns from native instruments ( kontakt). Will an i5 dual core 16 gb Cut it.? These tho gb are awfully expensive!! Thanks so much. Great info.

What would be a good rule of thumb for the sum of the Gigabytes of all the concert instruments versus the RAM memory of my Mac. I have 32 Gb of RAM but seem to have glitches if I load up instruments using Sine or Kontact once they get to the 12 Giga level ( i.e. 1/3). I have a 2019 Mac with 8 cores 2.3kHz. Or is it linked to something else? I am already using aliases etc to minimise
Hi. I'm from Brasil. Why would you guys recommend "Sierra" over "High Sierra"? I'm using HS right now anda i'd like to know if changing the OS would give me more advantages on cpu usage
At the time of this video we simply found that Sierra gave better performance than High Sierra. Our current recommendation is to use Mojave and MainStage 3.4.2.
An M3 is generally weaker than an i5- which is a bit below our recommended specs, however if you have at least 8GB of RAM and a decent M3, it will probably run fine. You may have to run at a slightly higher buffer size or with less total patches in your patch list at one time, but it should be workable :)
@@SundaySounds thanks a lot Paul....I got a deal of 2015 MacBook 8gb , 512gb M3 at half the original price India , which is cheaper than MacBook Air i5 8gb which is just 128gb.
I have a question!! (I’m a beginner in mainstage) every time I setup mainstage as a live set, at first it’s good at quality you can hear it so clean and good. but after awhile when it starts playing or have other pads playing.. the sound somehow cuts of the quality and it doesn’t sound as good anymore.. it’s like if the piano gets cutoff, I have audio interface. What is there missing ? Or what am i doing wrong?

Hello! Mainstage 3 doesn't give me the option to open in low res? Just open in rosetta. Uhm, any other way to open in low resolution?

Is there any way I could use external SSD on mainstage 3?
10 MS is that "output" or "roundtrip"
10 ms is the output, and then roundtrip that would be 13.7, in MainStage settings it will show you both.
Is it possible to have eg. a Hammond Plugin and a Rhodes plugin at concert level always recieving on say midi channel 15 and 16.
