Silicone is quite heat resistant. A good soldering iron (which is used at 380°C or more) will usually have a silicone insulated cable, so that the soldering iron will not be able to melt it.
And as you noticed, silicone is super soft. So the cables are very flexible and comfortable to use, but easy to cut through.

That propane torch gets up to 3,600 degrees Fahrenheit. The 'ove' glove is rated more for a few licks of flame from cooking over a campfire with flames around 1000-1500 Fahrenheit. I've used them as my oven mitt for over 10 years and they work well. Like you said, you can feel the heat soak in after a few seconds but by then you're done touching the pan and you can take it off.

The Ov-Glove is a great product! It is designed to protect your hands when taking hot things out of the oven. It’s not designed to protect you from a propane torch or to protect you from cuts. It does what it’s supposed to do very well. It’s only real drawback is that hot liquids will go right through it . Be careful when handling hot dishes that contain a lot of liquid. I can’t think of a single recipe that calls for a temperature of over 450 degrees, so we’re good there.

The gloves were only rated for dry heat though, not for hot liquids... Basically any kind of glove that isn't waterproof is likely going to result the same. If you're that clumsy with pouring boiling water, you can wear some real leather gloves and apply some leather waterproofing spray to it, and it'll make the boiling water feel warm, but it won't burn the skin.

I have the Ov-glove and bought it when it first came out waaaaaay back when. Love it! Heat the skillet and lay it in the skillet, it won't melt. If you were to burn down the house, yes, the glove would burn also. A skillet can not be used on a hot plate, it gets waaaaaay to hot and will distroy the hot plate.
If you watch the knife commercial, he chops the wood at the base of the knife, then he cuts the tomato at the tip of the knife. BTW Garlic skin is different than onion skin, so you have to peel the onion before chopping.

It's weird. I cook a lot, and the SlapChop was one of the most seemingly gimmicky things I'd ever seen. But I got gifted one, and when I decided to just try it out, I was genuinely impressed with how well it worked. Obviously useless for any sort of precision chopping or the like, but if you need to break down a bunch of onions, garlic, so on and so forth for a sauce, stock, soup, just about anything where a bunch of small pieces of something is required, it's actually kind of amazing.

The problem I have with the Ove glove is that a blow tour has is fire compared to an oven which is indirect heat, you can’t compare a glove that’s for the oven to an open flame when that flame can get to almost 800-1000 degrees F and even the broil setting on your oven can’t get that high. So in the end you didn’t give the glove a fighting chance.
