Hmmm. You tried High magick? (which I've come to realize the Yoga's; tantra; kundalini, kriya etc - not the pop western version - would also be categorized as) or psychedelics?
Or both combined? In chakra terms, putting the attention on awakening the crown chakra, rather than being fixated on the powers of the third eye.
For me I'm more interested in using magick as an amplifier on the path to enlightenment (i.e the mystical spiritual quest to know truth, non dual consciousness, or union with divine self, ending the cycle of death and rebirth, liberation, moksha, realizing no-self etc etc) rather than using it for ego feeding or materialistic purposes. (ego being my identification with me as separate from other - both being and material)
i.e the path to becoming whole (not just an ego 'believing' it is whole). If you want some light readings, that goes straight to the practical, I'd highly recommend; SantataGamana's Kriya Yoga. (exposed and the secret power, in the series of "real yoga") as a good place to start.

I'd recommend focusing on middle pillar or other practices that depolarize. I would swing wildly between both pillars and would constantly have depression from it.
Magcik and spirituality are two different things. Occasionally they coincide but they can exist each quite separately on there own. Neither is end a unto themselves just vehicles of inner and outer transformation or mutation of your personal world. There is no point to life other than the point you give to it. If you want more meaning out of life put some more meaning into how you live your life. Everyone must go through dark nights of soul periodically. There is no escaping it.

As far as changing physical features goes- look no further than Joseph Pierce Farrell. Just look into his work.
an Armchair magician....is an "Occult Philosopher" these people are the ones who wrote the books behind how the magic works and are necessary people.
just like how in science, Philosophy paves the way for what sciences tests and proves.
"Armchair magician" should be renamed specifically to "occult philosophers"
Agreed..l reccomend ,naural magic..the magical state of being, by david carroll and barry saxe...this book was highly reccomended by draja michaharic..great read

@Johnathan D. Hill no sir..im still practising...im just still interested in the phlosophy and reasons...he he...what got me interested in magick...was alan chapmans book advanced magick for beginners.
I think the term should apply to people who want to practice magic but keep postponing while they run from the practice through the obsession about the theory.
I think some people choose deliberately to focus on theory though. Those are indeed as you said “occult philosophers”.
In my case, I separate my interest in the practice and my interest in the philosophy.
The practice does inform the philosophy, and not practicing does limit the philosopher to an extent.
Lol yeah well not everyone has the facilities, capabilities, or desire to be a scientist. It's the same magick! Some people just aren't suited for it and there's nothing wrong with that. Not everyone can be great artist, athlete or warrior either but they can study and admire them from afar.
She's basically preaching the secret. Desire alone is not enough.

*Disclaimer: I mean no disrespect, harm, or offense. I'm only 3 years into my practice and still consider myself quite junior in my path. So please excuse what may be considered a "hot take" as it's not meant to be prescriptive, only descriptive or myself and no other.*
One issue, I got out of traditional christain faith because there's a lot of "I created you and therefore you owe me such-and-such and so-on" I'm not looking to perpetrate that kind of thing on my creations. They (like me) didn't ask to be made. I made them and I'm responsible FOR them. I understand it's not traditional to view egregores or thought forms as having agency but...if I cared about orthodoxy I wouldn't be here now would I?
I get that we have our own paths and it's not my wish to rain on anyone's paraded or yuck someone's yum but even though I created them I do not wish to lord over what my thought forms egregores or , nor do I want to hold myself apart from them. I AM them as much as they are me, yet all parties are distinct.
As for not treating them as "people" or beings in their own right, what if one did? How much more effected could that make them? What happens when we take our hands off the handles for a bit and then them work their will? Which is actually your will or an imination of it.
Suppose you treat the image as a beloved child? Just thinking about it. One thing for sure: one's interaction becomes a longer term process. You can't afford to forget about it for 3 months (that would happen for me for sure).
If they're absolutely parts of one's own psyche, this means inner child and integration work. Which is awesome, but can take us way in there down the rabbit hole. If it's what you want, or need, to me personally this sounds totally the way to go.
