'"make all the students face each other" was a legitimate seating arrangement I had during highschool
I was thinking the same thing, but we had it when I was I think in the 2nd grade. It is pretty funny and awkward seating when you think about it
Yeah, my kids have this seating situation in elementary and middle school. I did too for a while, depending on the classroom/teacher.
I'm actually pretty sure I had this seating arrangement all throughout high school too. Granted, in a few cases I think we just had tables, but I can think of at least a few classes throughout highschool where we regularly sat in a formation with our desks turned toward each other in groups until I graduated.

I think it's done to encourage peer learning and make it easier to work in groups, so there's like an actual pedagogical reasoning behind it

The funniest part about that desk seating is it actually happens for younger children in public schools. They clustered us in groups facing each other for a number of my classes, prior to high school.

that's the usual arrangement for classes that encourage collaboration. My science units in university were like that.

Oddly enough, our teachers in elementary and middle school would put 4 desks together like a table and make us face each other. Kinda intimidating now that Kevin mentions it. 😂

My school actually sat kids like that when I was young. Made group projects easy, very distracting if you sat with your friends or the weird kid.

I actually had that seating style in both elementary school and college, it is designed to promote students interacting and working as a group.
All it ever did was make me more annoyed at school. I hated talking to other students so much. And then I got to college and everyone is way more normal.

Headmaster Pickens is so big that when he thunders through the halls to the classroom to teach he just walks through the door instead of opening it. Half the school's budget is spent on replacement doors.

Back in 1st Grade we had the "make the students face each other." The desks were arranged in fours, to the point I don't know why it wasn't just a table with 4 chairs.
