I'm glad there are indie devs out there trying really hard and getting better over time. I don't think this game hits the nail yet. But I'm sure next game they'll be on par with where they should be. A lot of people have to understand that some indie devs are less experienced and more importantly have far fewer team members than others. But it's clear that their skills are improving and that they're learning. That's not in omission to the very real criticism the game deserves, nor is it a call to "just buy it anyways." Just that I'm happy to see devs trying and improving, and some people need to understand that the skills, techniques, and hell, even the libraries/features usually take a lot of time to build up even for mid-tier studios. I suspect great things in the future for this dev, they've just got to get around some of their smaller issues and learn from those mistakes.

The first top-down oceanhorn was an EXCELLENT experience. Seriously, I loved it. It would have gladly paid $15 for it, and honestly have done like 3 playthroughs of it now. The storyline was actually really good and had some cool twists and backstories, the characters were decent, the villains were cool, the bossfights and dungeons were fun, and the open world wind-waker experience led to lots of random adventures and exploration that I greatly enjoyed. And as weird as touchscreen games can be, the controls felt perfect for an iphone plus screen. The second game, was ok, but just... Idk, it is missing something. Honestly, I think it is just missing real direction. The racing bits could have been cool but they just kinda felt like a cutscene. The story was intruiging and started to become something good and then the game just suddenly ended... The ending, matter of fact, felt incredibly sudden. One moment you were finding the last big item, and then next thing you know the world is ending and then boom game over.
I honestly think they might have just been rushed to try to hit a release date for the switch that would catch attention. It felt like they had a lot more planned and then just tied it off with a quick ending. There was a lot set up in the story with the different cultures and stuff that felt like it was supposed to come back together and go somewhere. The final battle felt more like it was supposed to be a series of quests in a changed world torn by war, kind of like how "Wind Waker" had that sudden "ending" with the invasion of Ganandorf, that really just set the stage for a whole second half of the story in a world where you saw the sad consequences of his rise to power. This series has always been inspired by wind waker, and I think that's what they wanted to do with the story... and then just decided a second half of the game would take too long to make.

I’ve been playing for few hours and there is plenty of differences in the game that the reviewer does not give enough credit for in my opinion. Look at this launch trailer: th-cam.com/video/eLjUfgEPIH0/w-d-xo.html
I'm not bashing your comments here, but define "add value"? That's very corporate speak at this point. It's hard to even tell what that means anymore. I mean, could you be more specific. Like add unique features? Have more content? That kind of thing?
@@desmondbrown5508 "Add value" can be consumer speak as well, not just corporate, if you consider that a Switch owner will be weighing this against their existing BotW copy; therefore, adding something different will "add value" to justify the purchase. @@scottrobertson307 It's definitely not a perfect game, just like how the first wasn't, but it's got a lot of heart and can be pretty relaxing to play.
When the story was described it is practically just the same as Zelda games with as far as main plot goes. It is one thing to take inspiration from another game but to basically make a weaker version in every aspect just makes me think they have very little in the way of their own ideas to begin with.
Honestly, I was super ready to pick this up at the start of the video but hearing that it doesn't have lock-on mechanics in combat really sounds like a pain in the ass.
Have it, love it. Didn't like BOTW (yes, we exist) because of the gameplay mechanics. I love the linear structure of this game, though. And it's beautiful, very bright and easy on the eyes. Not a good as Zelda clone as Okami, but definitely worth the price.
I will take this budget Zelda clone and play it even with its blemishes, so I can fill the TriForce shaped hole in my heart . BOTW for me was a total fail , it just strayed way to far from the formula of old. The minute I began playing it I just couldn't get why they changed things so much. I know it was very successful and loved by many and that great ....I just hope BOTW doesn't become the norm.
I absolutely agree. Oceanhorn 1 & 2 fills the gap of missing Zelda games for me. I didn't care for BotW. Oceanhorn 1 is like a perfect combination of A Link to the Past and Link's Awakening. Oceanhorn 2 is Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker.
@@orinanime I've become a bit of a Y's junky now ..Searching for that Zelda fix lead me to new franchises and Ys is one awesome series. I highly recommend the Y's games. Darksiders also has a Zelda type formula, it's a bit of Zelda /God Of War /Prince of Persia all in one.
I realized something from this video... Zelda is also guilty of many of the same things that you cited as negatives here. Really think about it. BOTW is the first game in the series that really feels like it has some emotional depth. Storywise, most Links have no real character development aside from now squinting because the BBEG is Evil and must be stopped. OOT has some depth, and the Oracle Games added some too, but many of the rest are just contrived plots for you to go here to get this mcguffin etc. Nearly everyone you speak to in any Zelda game is either exposition dumping or remarking on some minutae in the world. AI companions are not all that helpful, and in WW literally you carry some of them to activate switches. This is by no means a mark against Zelda, far from it, but instead confirming that Oceanhorn 2 is actually pulling off a true Zelda style game with quality that really is on-par.
Are their any good 3d platformers or 3d games like Zelda on the switch that aren't main well known titles? This game may not be perfect but it's scratching that classic Zelda itch I been looking for. Okami really the only other game I go to for that classic itch.
Already completed on Apple Arcade a while ago. Honestly, the game mechanics are just plain worse in my opinion. And why they didn't include jump for the character is beyond my imagination. It could have made this game way more intuitive. (Sorry for the bad english)
Where you mention just plain worse, that was your only grammatical issue. What were you referring to as worse? Worse than zelda, or the original game? Other than that no real mistakes.
@@morriganrenfield8240 Sorry for the late reply. The original game was good tbh. I see the mechanics and everything that was limited due to it being that top-down view and such. This game likes to show itself as it's the best thing that happened to oceanhorn but it's just the same mechanics which is not at all intuitive when talking about the 'open world' setting. It actually feels just like the older game but with a 3d semi-open-world skin on it. I hope that makes sense. Not sure what the developer for going for in this game. Also you can fall off a small cliff while dodging an attack and usually it's a long way back to that point following a linear path. There is no jump button which could have been better. The combat feels dated. Like the ones in the previous game.
Just finished the game on Apple Arcade. I liked the boss battles, but the combat against enemies in the wild is terrible. The puzzles and dungeons were just okay. The story isn’t good at all, and it largely felt unfinished to me. I wouldn’t recommend paying full price for this game as it’s definitely not worth the money.
I don’t think the game got entirely done too. Especially toward the end where it feels like the game kinda abruptly ends. And the combat feels about as stilted as it did on the first one. The game is definitely a looker, though I feel like the animation took a dive in its stead.

I played ocean horn 1 and I loved it ngl and I've been waiting for this to release on android and I'll sure give it a try when it comes even doe it isn't that good
IMO, they could've made this a local co-op game... Dunno why the switch doesn't have many co-op games in the arpg genre. Like fable 3...the switch needs a fable 3 like game... It's 2021!every dev on every Plattform owes it to us...
oceaonhorn has always looked good, had a good sales pitch on phones, but on a Nintendo console, it will unfortunately always come across as a very thin and mundane Zelda-clone experience. all gamedevs should try to "add value" to a game. not just copy concepts. I want to know why the devs did this game? where's the drive for it? what did they want to contribute with?
I’ve been playing for few hours and there is plenty of differences in the game that the reviewer does not give enough credit for in my opinion. Look at this launch trailer: th-cam.com/video/eLjUfgEPIH0/w-d-xo.html
I'm not bashing your comments here, but define "add value"? That's very corporate speak at this point. It's hard to even tell what that means anymore. I mean, could you be more specific. Like add unique features? Have more content? That kind of thing?
@@desmondbrown5508
"Add value" can be consumer speak as well, not just corporate, if you consider that a Switch owner will be weighing this against their existing BotW copy; therefore, adding something different will "add value" to justify the purchase. So if there's more to the game than simply emulating BotW for a cheaper price, then those differences would potentially "add value."
Looks amazing, is it out yet?
Already bought the game, been wanting this game since the first trailer announced
Did you like the game? Were the controls good and easy to learn?
Any know if they patched some of the issues yet? Like the lock on or anything?

This game was awesome I played it on my iPad with a ps4 control
Did you play on iphone with xbox one control?
When the story was described it is practically just the same as Zelda games with as far as main plot goes. It is one thing to take inspiration from another game but to basically make a weaker version in every aspect just makes me think they have very little in the way of their own ideas to begin with.
i have been playing the first version on SD, and when this comes out, i will def buy this on steam and play it on the deck as well.
Is there a free roam on the iOS version of this game?
Just started playing mine on the Lite today!
Did you play it on dark?
Can you parachute guide in this game?
Honestly, I was super ready to pick this up at the start of the video but hearing that it doesn't have lock-on mechanics in combat really sounds like a pain in the ass.
The first one is better. Play that one.
Have it, love it. Didn't like BOTW (yes, we exist) because of the gameplay mechanics. I love the linear structure of this game, though. And it's beautiful, very bright and easy on the eyes. Not a good as Zelda clone as Okami, but definitely worth the price.
Thats sad they added all the exposition. I wish devs would just focus on thr gameplay with minimal dialogue. Leave a little mystery
This game looks incredibly fun. Definitely going to give this a shot once I beat Bloodstained and the Amnesia collection.
Good luck with amnesia
Yeah you might want to keep the lights on your soul might be in danger ✨
Zelda with a gun? Color me intrigued. Really enjoyed the first game!
Damn I gotta finish the first one now
This one is actually the prequel to the first one.
Really? This review pegged this game as medicore
This game has a vauge memory slot of its own in my 2019 phone apps category.

Are their any good 3d platformers or 3d games like Zelda on the switch that aren't main well known titles? This game may not be perfect but it's scratching that classic Zelda itch I been looking for. Okami really the only other game I go to for that classic itch.
Considering I waited for a sale on Oceanhorn 1, I think I'll do the same for this game.

Already completed on Apple Arcade a while ago. Honestly, the game mechanics are just plain worse in my opinion. And why they didn't include jump for the character is beyond my imagination. It could have made this game way more intuitive. (Sorry for the bad english)
Your English is fine, better than most TH-cam comments lol.
I think this game is great it reminds me of when i first played ocarina of time which was tuff to play and work out the puzzles.
Wish they had kept the original top down style and just expanded the game..
First game was really good
Just finished the game on Apple Arcade.
@@Darknight0681 I completely agree bro, the graphics were impressive for a game that probably doesn’t have a huge budget. I think with some time this could become a great franchise, but there’s a lot of room for improvement.
Tad overpriced for a mobile port, think I'll wait for a price drop.

Not worth the price, I regret spending $30 on it. The controls needs work and makes combat harder than it needs to be. Compared to other games now a days like Zelda, the controls seem slow. Blocking and dodging is a bit off and delayed.
TBH, I think this was meant to be an alternative to Zelda for mobile phones
A lot of games want to Zelda but dont want to be Zelda

I still say the best Zelda clo e was on the ps3 3D Dot Game Heroes
For casual gamers, I think it’s really not that bad.
They need to make this a 5 or 10 bux game on the Apple App / Google Android store. Save money on the Apple Arcade and hope developers make this a standalone game to enjoy! ;) Hint. Hint. ;) ;)
I agree but the world-building, art direction, and music in this was way better than any Zelda game

This is not a great game, but for those wanting the feeling of an oldschool Zelda game, it is a fun time. The Zelda franchise has not been oldschool Zelda for a long while now and so this is a welcome game.
Zelda shouldn't be old school anymore anyway. I've been a fan of the series since the early 90's, and even though I was a little leery of BOTW at first, it was exactly what the franchise needed. I love all the old games, but you can't keep remaking LTTP and OOT over and over again for 30 years.
