Was just earlier in the week having a look at the basic Bitdefender Antivirus edition, from the perspective of a regular Kaspersky user. The interface felt cleaner and everything seemed to run smoothly. I would feel confident recommending Bitdefender as an alternative to others, while sticking to Kaspersky myself for wanting more granularity in the settings. And for that Bitdefender was throwing false positives on a number of uncommon software tools I had lying around. Not something that should be a bother at all for most users.

If we made false positive test between Bitdefender and Kaspersky, I'm sure Kaspersky would be the winner. Because as you said, Kaspersky is more likely to allow executions and to search behavioural patterns rather than Bitdefender blocks suspicious or malicious signatures ,it's more likely to block them instead of relying on behavioural search.. This may allow false positives more for Bitdefender side.... Both products are good, but I would prefer Kaspersky nevertheless, because I trust Kaspersky's behaviour based detection strength more than Bitdefender's behavioural detection. .. :) Thanks for your nice videos..

Both Kaspersky and Bitdefender have strong anti-malware capabilities, but their methods are slightly different. Kaspersky provides a System Watcher component that monitors system activity and uses various databases and algorithms to detect and block suspicious activity, effectively protecting against zero-day threats and ransomware. On the other hand, Bitdefender excels at real-time protection and has a slightly better result in detecting and eliminating 2,000 types of malware during testing.

Too much memory consumption for me, it does not have a simple option to deactivate it from the taskbar, and browsing both the internet and my folders was tedious, very heavy. It is a tough call, because they are both excellent programs. Personally, I don't mind false positives. Kaspersky has a great user interface that you can tweak quite a lot. If I have to have a Microsoft-based tool , and a anti-malware program starts "clutching at its pearls", I will just run it in a sandbox in a host M$ OS running under a Linux hypervisor, and see what goes on with it.
Web apps are more dangerous generically because they can crack your browser on whatever the box is, and try to escalate control from there. So if you are going to sandbox anything, make it your browser, IMHO.
I like the DOM idea in QUBES OS. The hypervisor OS has no internet connection, and you can create host OSes [of any flavour] from templates, and you interact with the world from the guest OS's. If you get into trouble with one, just delete it. It can always be respawned afresh from your templates.
You update DOM from the most hardened guest OS, and never use that virtual machine for anything else. You can use a different secure OS for sensitive info [like internet banking or whatever], and another OS as your "daily driver". It is the best compromise I have seen that gives your hardened OS capability and yet the convenience of moderate security for normal tasks.

Thanks for the heavy test, validates my confidence in my Bitdefender. I'd used Kaspersky years ago, but stopped when the rise in Russian hacking really got rolling as it was reported by agencies as a risk considering where it comes from. Bitdefender failed me with a very sneaky RAT that was a persistent threat. The malware was able to disable Bitdefender immediately (I'm assuming through remote commands) and then do whatever it needed to to Windows to shield it from view. Then the app started back up again and made no peep about the malware. I abandoned Bitdefender after that. I'm now using Kaspersky with VPN. Hoping this one does better but I'm not holding my breath.
