    Yeah in school I always get people asking why I spend so much on pencils I often get things like I could 20 pencils for £1. I take great care of my pencils at school I even have a tracker in my pencil case if I lose it. I use my pilot s20 a lot at school and have for several years

    Hey Michael, I love this great video. I just picked up my tenth Kuru Toga pencil yesterday, and enjoy it greatly. The GRIP 1345 is another great pencil, but I was surprised not to see the 925 25 05 because those are often under $10. I'm also incredibly pleased to see a TK Fine Vario review coming up. That's going to be awesome! I was wondering if you would be reviewing the Parker Vector line of mechanical pencils. They are pretty good, and I would recommend getting the white 100th-anniversary model. They're often available on eBay for $6-7.

      Interested to see what you think of the Faber Castell tk fine vario. I got one about a year ago and it is not my cup of tea. I am not a fan of the smooth metal grip and I am such a low gripper that I find that it just doesn't fit my hand at all. I recall you mentioning in previous videos that you were looking into it, if I was thinking, I should have mailed you mine too help you out and clear room in my storage case.

    The Tombow Monograph Zero is my EDC pen of choice. The easy to replace extra long twist eraser (I buy Mono Zero Eraser refills and cut them in two) mean that I can carry it for long time without ever worry about refills.
    I would make a suggestion as well for the Pentel Graph Gear 500, while they don't sell in it store, Staples have it for $9 on-line. The balance between the heavy metal knurling and the light plastic body is tuned to the perfection. This pencil remains my favorite, the one I always go back, even if I do own a Rotring 600...

    My budget pick would be Pilot Super Grip. Sliding sleeve, brass clutch, reasonable ergonomics, can be found for under 2€ a pop in packs of 12. Pentel Energize is good too, has a much better grip that gets closer to the tip but the clutch is plastic, the center of mass is higher and the tip has a noticeably softer feeling to it. I've never had one fail though so I guess it's a pretty good plastic clutch?

    • @DinnerForkTongue
      @DinnerForkTongue ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've had two Super Grips, one blue and one black, for like 10+ years. My only problem is that the grip on one has started to rot away (rubber hydrolysis), but only on the blue one. The black one is still perfectly serviceable.

    • @dfcx1
      @dfcx1 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DinnerForkTongue That's interesting, I've only had black ones and they're all still fine. I think my first ones are from the late 90s/early 2000s, but I'm not entirely sure if the ones I currently use are those ones or not.

    I have also seen broken Clearpoints back in school. The worst of the worst, though, was the Paper Mate "Write Bros." Those pencils I saw broken on the floor often in high school.
    Interesting to hear about Platinum's version of the Staedtler Integrity (9505) pencil. I have the original Staedtler in black, whose grip I replaced with an orange foam slide-on grip (as the original's rubber expanded and would slide off the pencil easily). It was originally a pencil my Dad acquired. He got it with another pencil, with the idea that I may end of with one of those two pencils.

    The Pentel Quick Dock .5mm is by far one of the best mechanical pencils I have used ever. The last two years of high school I only used the quick dock and gave some to my friends and they were hooked imagine a bunch of people using the same exact pencils it’s only about 4-5$ us and the main store I find them at is Harris teeter. I’d recommend it to any who wants to get a very outstanding pencil for the budget.oh and the pocket clip is extremely sturdy I take mine of my pencils so that’s how I know

    Thank you for mentioning that the P207 does not come in black. I ordered a metallic p207 from amazon (they choose color) and in the package it looked like a basic black, not metallic, but it was on sale for 3 dollars and not worth the return. I never opened it till now and its not black it is an absolutely beautiful sparkly dark pewter (brownish grey?) color. I feel bad that I neglected it.

  • @elgarak
    @elgarak 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just because you mention that international viewers could just convert the price points... That's not the case, at least here in Germany. Prices and brands are VERY different over here. Here, the Faber-Castells 134x are standard wares that you can get almost everywhere for €3, or in a 3-pack for less than €10 (all German made). Staedtlers are rarer, but can be get, and they're also budget priced as well (and German made). And lead refills are Faber-Castell, period. (Again, Staedtler's are harder to get since they're not stocked in big supermarkets where I live, but easy enough to get.)
    Whereas all the Japanese ones (incl. Pentel) are things you have to hunt for. Kuru Toga or Zebra? Forget about them, they're exotics. But you can get them online for cheaper than US prices. Tombow at least has now a German distribution company, and you can get them in specialty stores.
    Now, I should mention some really strange things like Staedtler has some models that are Japan-made, and are only sold in Japan, but online shopping means you can get them for less than €10 shipped from Japan. They're top-line products, and no one understands why they don't sell them back here at home.
    Faber-Castell also makes some special models for non-German markets (USA, mostly), but those are commonly stocked in specialty stores over here.

      Engineering innovation evaluation is in the eyes of the beholder. It depends upon what features you like. There exists no pencil that contains my perfect combination of features. At least, not that is currently available on the market. If we can make it to 4000 subs, I have a pencil released just this past year, recommended by Channel viewers, that is a Top Ten pencil, and comes in a lead size that solves a long-standing problem with mechanical pencils.
