It is very interesting to see how other people prepare for competition. Keep up the good work! Thanks for sharing 👍

Thank you Gabe. Yes this is a new kit of birds on short notice. I think I would have handled them differently if the kit was more established. Can you share how you prepare? I generally feed them up and fly them often for a couple of weeks, and then slowly reduce their feed for a week or two so that they are just entering an upwards condition scoring on the day of the fly. Through the year I generally just feed them their standard feed and fly them whenever I have time

Hello just seen your post about preparing the team.In 1996 or 7 l won the all England roller club old bird fly .when time was called on the team the kit flew another hour working better than the first 30 Mins .That team was flown about 15 times inthe10 days approaching the fly .no loose kitting no rolldowms all figure 8 flying pattern .very fit team able to work and work some more .no starving to get roll out of them .Bred from birds with natural willingness to roll but very importantly also with control over the roll.In 3 years I won that competition twice and came second once .in the same 3 years I won nbra old bird fly twice .all same preparation.weak starving birds can't do the work . I have judged the aerc fly 2 weeks every day .my conclusion is that most kits are not fit enough to do the work required to win big comps .only my opinion but the birds don't lie.just watching your videos outbirds and loose kitting hurthe team.try to breed only from superbkitters that fly hard to get back to the front of the team.dont be put off by my direct comments it is all very well meant .good luck

I do very similar to you.
I select my team from a larger kit working numbers down to the proper kit size as the competition day approaches. I feed them on straight wheat or wheat/milo and water up to a couple days before the competition then I feed them generously breeder mix or some change of feed and give them a day off before the competition. I know that seems vague but I adjust how much I feed and how often I fly them depending on how the kit is working and how long they are flying. I think you are doing very well and you will do well in your up and coming competition. Good luck buddy 👍

Hello I live in UK kept competition rollers 27 years all same family no outcrosses .would just like to say best teams I ever flew had been together many months with very little disturbance of the team members .I found that with my family of birds this gave the best results in terms of team concert performance necessary to win competitions.Tight kitting also very important no outbirds very important .team looking like a swarm of bees flying figure of 8 pattern .birds from a good family closely bred flying in this manner are very hard to beat weather permitting .swapping and changing birds so close to a comp could easily affect the team in a bad way .might be better to have the team sorted earlier so less disturbance close to fly date .ONLY MY OPINION.saw a few tidy individuals in your videos poor kitting spoilt the potential of the team to work correctly . Enjoyed watching your birds and you seem keen to learn . OBSERVATION in the air and around the loft environment is very important in my opinion and not enough fancier's do it. What strain do you keep how long have you had them and are you happy with them so far .Good luck with the birds to you and your friends .Ian Birkett .England.

Thank you Ian. I lost my whole flying kit (Second generation results out of my best-to-best mating's) at the end of 2019 due to pmv. I tended to ignore who the pigeons were out of/bred from till I ended up with my best '20 birds, so I lost that whole year. These are now what I re-bred, and culled all the 2022-21 birds in upcoming videos. In short, I do not have the luxury of many years(days/weeks) preparing, this the sharing of my experience. I am perfectly willing to share this experience, I have mny years ahead, and am very excited about finally having a family of good birds to share

Hi Dave, If you saw the first two videos on the prepping, I mention that. They initially came down from after 4 hours, so I had to cut them down, and then start to eventually stabilize them, as per the upcoming videos, actually the past videos also. Please check the whole "sorting the rollers" video. Ideal is Inlead an 8 figure pattern, but I am preparing them for our comp against 5 World Cup Level flyers on short notice
