Hello again kit looking better minus problem birds well done .not sure when you fly but best of luck .will the other kits in the comp be filmed if so it would be good to compare other birds in your area as well as yours .just a tip for feeding kits that don't fly the time never WIN.so don't undercut them in a last minute decision .best kits I flew and observed at other lofts always had time to spare when time was called .GOOD LUCK and post results good or bad it is a long learning curve. All the best Ian Birkett.

Thanks Ian. Yes this week didn't go as planned with me being out of town for 2 days and my whole schedule being disrupted. I will be discussing the results of the fly at the end of the competition, but not be recording many of the other fliers since they are quite far and I have to join my boys. Am flying them now as I'm sitting here. Quickly came in to check on work, but they have been up for more than an hour now. This will be the next/5th preparation video before resting them tomorrow and flying them Sunday. So i am holding thumbs and hoping for the best at this stage. At least i can spend the rest of the year settling the kid, after which it should be easier to prepare, without too much shuffling:)

Hello again just a couple of last minute tips .put the judge where he she can see the kit 100% of the time if possible .a fly can be lost by a couple of small breaks being missed behind a tree or building .when I was competing I never let other people stand close to the judge talking to him when he was judging breaking his concentration or even maybe influencing his scoring .It is the judges job to score the kit and nobody elses . I don't know your flying rules but if your team gets better as the clock ticks consider giving them the full ten minutes before you put them on the clock.I always did this as my family of birds just got better the longer they were up (read first ten minutes may have been time spent kit settling and getting into their working height and team positions ) in UK a nice height might be 250 _ 300 feet high enough to break hard but still well in veiw for the judge.my birds would not work at rooftop height something I bred for over the years .CONTROL very important in my opinion helps to do away with lots of small unscorable breaks and can lead to more instant breaks not following through type breaks .in fact I don't consider the following through type breaks as scorable always trying to achieve instant concert performance and IMMEDIATE return to the kit ready to set up for the next break . of course things don't always go according to plan but if you strive for for certain qualitys in your birds and only breed off the ones that display these qualities slowly but surely you can build a family of birds that you will spend more time enjoying and less time being disappointed with your efforts .that's it for now good luck Ian Birkett

@@ianbirkett5803 Thank Ian. Yes the comp went well. Halfway through I am currently 3rd, but keeping in mind that there are 5 WC winners amongst the opposition I think it is ok. We have 5 minutes for the birds to settle, and can then call a stop of 5 minutes if a falcon, storm etc comes up. Same as the WC rules

Hello again well done.have the 5 WC winners all flown already .if so pat yourself on the back you have just beaten 3 WC winners with minimum preparation time .when the fly has finished please post results with scores ect .In the future as you build your no 1 old bird kityou shouldn't have any issues with bad kitting . Individuals landing early if you do your job if the birds are any good they will do there's.look like you get some goodsettled weather if so ideal roller fly environment.how many are in the flying comp. I don't keep the birds now and don't really know about any South African flyers or roller strains -- families .Do any flyers keep imports from UK if so what strains I have seen most of the UK families in competition flying some good some not so good in my opinion. If you look on U TUBE a fellow called John keeps my stuff in Australia didn't get them direct from me but from Ireland from a flyer who I supplied birds to .back in about 2005. 2 Irish flyers have won WC with my stuff.if you find the Australian lad on the tube you will see the type of birds my family was . In 1992 I got birds from Peter Harper he won the WC on 1992 among the birds was the1997 rose bowl winner .best bird in all England roller club comps that year .not many of them about .it was only on loan with its half brother I took 6 or 8 eggs from them and floated them under feeders. Peter let me pick another 4 or 5 out of the sky on loan again .this was how I built my family .peters stuff was and still is very active family .It took me a while to come to grips with them . My selection for stock has changed the original birds I took some of the activity out of them and bred for more control .this in turn makes for instant brakes birds all starting to roll at the same time not following through.this type of brake scores points and we know what that means.look forward to your reply .what is your name please .

Hi Ian. My name is Dirk van Niekerk. One of the WC Winners, Sparks Axcell has already flown and is currently second, with the leader being well-known also, but he hasn't won yet. I know that he has flown and he has done well. Johan Hayward from Rustenburg. I think if you look at the name of the breed most of the birds should originally be from UK imports. Most of the birds over here are from original birds from George Mason. My own particular family is from a hen that is a cross between a Mason hen and a Wanless cock. Some birds from Lez Bezance, Deano Foster, Graham Dexter etc also float around, but the birds tend to need serious selection, many rounds of breeding and serious culling to adapt here. I honoustly do not know why. We imported some excellent birds from Dave Moseley. I went with our judge in 2013/4 and found Dave's birds to be incredibly good. We then imported 8 babies and struggled with them over here. I had the beginnings of my current family paralell with these, who were also originally Harpers I understand, and preferred the ones I had. That same year we had 8 South Africans in the top 10 which was ironical. I imported the birds all the way from England but presumably the best genetics in the World were born less than an hour's drive from my home:) I will certainly make a video after the flight...I have since heard that this is basically also our National flight this year, so I am very excited!

Hello Dirk my apologies to you for talking to you as though you are a complete novice I did not know you had kept the birds so long .living in the UK as I do I have been to all the loft of the UK flyer s that you mention not so much recently but more in the 90s and early 2000 ish .for raw quality rolling I would say deano Forster lez bezance and John wallness from that list and most of UK where second to none at the time. But rolling speed alone is not everything.good winning teams need all the other good qualities as well.most of your birds don't look like the mossely birds I have seen in UK wrong colour.Dave kept lots of mealy birds .in your last post did you say you have had or still have peters stuff either way what did you think of them.I would think that importing birds unseen in the air might not be the best way forward but I know what it's like trying to get decent stock.you talk about a good flyer who lives 1 HR away what family does he keep and what makes you say he has the best .if I was starting again I would approach the person who had the best birds but importantly that I could trust and I would try and buy 2 cocks and 4 hens top draw stuff .that would give me 8 different pairings I would foster them out fly the young hard and cull anything that didn't make the grade .any pair that clicked I would breed large amount of young from them under foster and swap the others aroun each other to see if any othersclicked if they Didi would repeat mate them anything that didn't produce anything worth a mention .I woul use as fosters .this takes time but in the long run saves time my opinion.weall have different ways of seeing things .good luck with the fly you have done what you can for now Ian Birkett.

@@ianbirkett5803 No problem Ian. Yes I am basically on that "breed many, cull strictly, pair back to parents and siblings, cull strictly, redo stage. I think if I started again I would buy 20 babies from a well-known breeder with an established family of good birds (at this stage the first two that come to my mind is Riaan Kruger and Sparks Axcell), then select the best and put them together, select the best babies, redo, cull, redo etc etc. From what I have heard it took many generations to adjust the birds here, so I am not sure if they kept their original qualities for me to comment on them now, decades later. I must give Dave credit, the babies that we imported from him really came out of the best birds that I saw when I was there. This is a video that I posted when we were there, without knowing I might create a channel later :) th-cam.com/video/kvI5kPbtHkY/w-d-xo.html
