- In this Video Lecture, Professor Fink describes the Regulation of arterial Blood Pressure by the Cardiovascular Reflex Center in the Medulla Oblongata. The Baroreceptor Reflex is explained and the 4 major actions identified: [1] change in Heart Rate; [2] change in myocardial contractility; [3] change in venoconstriction; and [4] change in overall degree of arteriolar vasoconstriction. Reference is made to the carotid and aortic baroreceptors, tachycardia, Starling's Law, Stroke Volume, Cardiac Output, and to Total Peripheral (Vascular) Resistance.
For a more detailed description of how gravity affects your Blood Pressure and how the Baroreceptor Reflex compensates for standing upright, and what Postural (Orthostatic) Hypotension is, watch Professor Finks' Video Lecture:

Professor Fink, the video was cut off just before I believe you were about to discuss how syncope acts as a homeostatic reflex and may save your life and/or brain cells. Can you please explain?
Professor, I see a part 4 to this but not a part 3?
