- EU4 Ragusa is one of the least played nations in EU4, which is a shame because it's also one of the most interesting! You might recall my EU4 Theodoro and EU4 Athens campagins, this one is up there in terms of difficulty! We have to contend with EU4 Ottomans.. but at least we restore Byzantium! I'll warn you, there's coalitions and more in this Ragusa run - you could even call it an EU4 guide!

Fun Fact: Since you released the Byzantines as a vassal, you can spend favors with the ottomans to get them to retur5n Byzantine Cores. It'll be expensive Favor-wise, but could be worth it
Got all of Syria from the Mamluks like that a few times, I love doing that to my long-term allies. Constant curry favors, get all the cores, annex, BAM I have your land now and you still love me
In my Navarra game I did this against France, making them SLOWLY give back Gascony

I did a ragusa game recently, got its achievement by 1486
And became a gp by around 1500
This series has now just turned into Laith getting an unhealthy addiction to fight neverending waves of coalitions

An easy way to fight ottomans as byzantium without brekaing the truce is to immediately attack Ragusa after the first war, since Ottomans gurantee them from the start of the game.
I think avaria would be a neat campaign after this. Vassal state horde opm with an achievement that sends you to hungary

I did that once as the Mamluks. The entire 42k Ottoman army was trapped on Naxos after I yeeted their weakened navy. When they peaced with venice, their whole army was disbanded

Did you know Ragusa bought almost all of their territory from Serbian king? On Peljesac island there is still orthodox church.
@@dakedakinson64 That' so cool! 🙂 Is there still an archieve of the purchase in a museum somewhere? That Church was built in 10th century, 100 years before the Schism when Christianity was still united so thats why the purchase was made 😅. There was no Orthodox/Catholic tensions yet.

Finally someone played Ragusa, we were super powerful with trade, so it could be more realistic, but i appreciate what was done.

A tip is that to form Dalmatia there is a cap how many provinces you can have when you do it. Like 5 or something
It has Croatian mission tree, l remember playing Ragusa few years ago when there was no dlc with map changes to balkans area so l always went to create croatia as ragusa
I played as dithmarshen and as a democracy. It was really fun and rewarding because the start is not *that* easy but the morale boost is really nice
Ragusa now known as Dubrovnik was one of the most important cities on the Adriatic. Fun fact the city was the main filming location for King's Landing in the GOT tv show.
I’ve noticed you rarely set war targets for your allies (like one would to get their vassals to target a specific province). Is there a reason you do this?
idk about for you, but whenever i set war targets for allies, they never listen. usually only my vassals do

i would absolutely recommend a dithmarschen republican playthrough- i got the early reich achievement as dithmarschen, it's such a fun campaign.
I love Ragusa, being guaranteed gives you the perfect excuse to be ultra aggressive.

You should try a trade game Switzerland. It’s a really stupid strat but you can get Genoese and Venetian land very easily.

I'd recommend Croatia aswell. They have the same missions, are bigger and in a better position. You start as a PU under Hungary, so you can ask their rivals to support independence, making them your allies after who will help you take on the Ottomans. I got supported by Poland, Aragon and Bohemia and I swallowed the Balkans with their help.
If you do a full democratic campaign I feel it would be fun. Ps would be cool if start in the netherlands

Played ragusa, ended with super strong and RICH dalmatia.
You should have built a fort on Bosnia it's hills with a river crossing.
make sure to build favors with ottomans so you can ask them for byzantine cores!
but also make sure not to cut off their territory by demanding the cores. if a nation has two blobs of land that are disconnected they'll desire the land thats making them disconnected and thatll make them haaaate you
may not be an issue in these coastal areas tho cause that might constitute as a connection

its probably better to mothball forts you cant afford then delete them, it will cost about 200 ducats to get any of those back in the long run, and theyre quite useful to prevent your lands from being totally overrun and your economy tanking in times of need

Is achievement still viable if you form Dalmatia?
Are you going to form Dalmatia for those really good military ideas?
Probably posted before, but you can only have a max of 10 provinces to form Dalmatia. You lost that opportunity when you annexed Bosnia. You also should have co-beligerented Wallachia if you wanted to vassalize them, as they typically only ally the one nation early on, but could be guaranteed by the ottomans. (Vassals don't count towards the maximum province count to form Dalmatia) I usually wait for what the Ottomans do after that. If they attack byz, then i rush for Kosovo for the gold mine. If they attack Albania, then I rush for the Venetian provinces i need for Dalmatia. Going for that Naples territory was really ballsy, but I can't say I am surprised.
Also forming Croatia will force your republic into a monarchy if you are into that.

I have a challenge for you: start as a country with low religious unity like QQ or Hormuz, you can't: boost stability over 0, accept rebel demand, take burger loans, increase autonomy in provinces, lower war exaustion, disinherit heir, use the privilege guaranteed dhimmi autonomy and be constanty at least 50 overextension.

I am sorry if you feel different about it, but you are most likely not covered by the right to assemble (or what ever the right English equivalent is) and just in general seems quite dickish during Covid when local governments are desperately trying to keep people from needlessly gathering in sizable groups, even if it’s just the Christmas celebration.
Again it’s probably just a joke, but please do consider the locals when proclaiming something like this even if it’s just a joke.
