    I just bought a new tank today and I see "01 95", did I really buy a tank from 1995 in 2018 from a specialized propane store?

    Word of caution, I just made the mistake of having a 15 year old tank filled thinking it would be fine since it has the newer style valve, after getting home it started leaking even with the tap turned off tight, I installed a proper reverse thread cap since I wasn't planning on using the tank for awhile but it still had a slow leak, the inner seals are shot and especially with these colder -15°C temps they can't be trusted. lesson learned as to why they need replacing every 10 years.

    You don't toss a bad tank, you take it to a blue rino and get a new one for like 10 bucks

    The E after the retest stamp actually means it is a visual inspection and that it wasnt tested under pressure. A visual inspection is good for 5 years. Great video though👍🏻

    What about those tanks that we swap at service stations (like RapidGaz), usually we give them our empty tank in exchange for a full one. Now that I brought them back their tank, a year later they tell me it's expired. The one I left them last year was about 2 years old! any comments on this?

    At 3:36 the tank shows an expiration date of "4.05E". You state it as meaning " April 2015". How is that 2015 instead of 2005?

    Awesome vid, very informative. My grandfather gave me an old tank he had sitting under his deck.. it's full but quite rusty, and there's no clear date code but it looks like it was either June of 1994, May of 2001 or January 2010 (there are so many numbers I can't tell what's what). Shame they couldn't make a uniform date code format for ALL tanks, would make it easier than each manufacturer having their own way of doing it. Great vid though, cool of you to show a few different variations instead of just one tank.

    Is it even worth having them re-valved? How much to they typically charge for a 20lb or 30lb tank to be re-valved?

    • @gr8sl8m8
      @gr8sl8m8  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      my opinion, and i tell my costumers to go to a tank swap they usually take old tanks too cause they re valve... so to buy a new tank it is round 50 bucks and to tank swap it is round 30 depends on the place and it is a full tank you get. but to revalve i think it was round 40 bucks and a hour of purging to get the job done and the valves need to be bout and it is a hassle for me.. if that helps in short, i think its best to take it to a tank swap. this is 20 pounders... the 30 pounders might be worth re valving cause i am not sure it they tank swap 30 pounders.

      It is also dependent on the shape of the tank. Despite what the video said, if it is pitted at all it cannot be refilled or recertified. He is also breaking the law by walking away while it is filling. An inspector would nail this guy if he saw him doing that. Almost 13 years in the industry and I know the rules. The person at Costco can refuse to fill your tank if it is being transported improperly ie: in a closed trunk, rolling around in the back of a truck bed unsecured, in the back seat of a car etc..

    From 1:55 to 2:10 he points to a revalve stamp ending in "04" and says it expired in 2014. From 2:20 to 2:30 he points to a side stamp for revalve and it ends in "04" and then he says it expired in "04". So it doesn't seem this is trustworthy information.
