All of the TBS fans are still waiting for this style to return to TBS. We loved the duet style, the riffs, the melodies, harmonies everything combined. Look at record sales, and total all time music streams, WYWTB and LN are the top 2, with the very first album being 3rd. Louder Now went gold faster than any TBS ever, still to this day. This is easy, we all need to lobby John and them to go back to Straylight Run, and we will get Eddie and you back to TBS and life can continue.

    • @ryutou-ki4dl
      @ryutou-ki4dl ปีที่แล้ว +1

tbf louder now was the first album with major label power behind it to make it go gold faster. "Where you want to be" though was still indie and super impressive. Honestly though as good as fazzi is most ppl look at his era as the bad TBS era without even realizing the connection. When John came back there music went back to being great again. WITH THAT SAID though the first 3 albums are the best for a reason and I would LOVE if BOTH john and fred worked with TBS to make at least ONE song if not an album. I feel like Fred and John both hold half the magic key to TBS and if brought together we would get something magical.

Fred took care of his voice, where Adam doesn't at all. And it's obvious Fred doesn't smoke cigarettes and drink booze. Pretty sure Adam's still does both, but that's besides the point. The point is Adam can't sing in the key that they wrote all those songs in. They would have to transpose and lower the key.....and not to mention lots of pride will have to be swallowed. I love you Fred, TBS has never been the same without you!

I'll never forgot on MySpace in like 2006-ish, Fred was nice enough at the height of the TBS Golden-era to reply to questions about guitar gear from me, a random fan. He told me about his JCM 800 named "Sasquatch," and we shared a love for those amps. Anyone can get famous and play guitar, but very few can pull it off and be as kind and genuine as Fred. #classact #OG

When eddie left and they kinda just left the guitar spot unofficially filled i wanted so bad to see the announcement that you got asked to come back as a second guitarist. Dont get me wrong john is cool, but Fred really turned TBS into the 'rock band' on WYWTB and Louder Now. Even compared to TBS's newer albums Freds guitar work was so much more pronounced and the riffs were awesome. I think it would be so cool to have john and fred teaming up, we could get some sick guitar solos and stuff on future TBS albums. Anyway that is just my 2 cents that nobody asked for haha.

Much appreciated. I was very sensitive to that. Didn't want the fans to feel like it was a different band. The key honestly was using alot of Eddie's riffs on this album. He's the riff-master and that early TBS sound.

I was just thinking about this today while listening to WYWTB. It takes an incredible amount of talent and restraint to tune into a band’s style of sound like that while adding your own flair to it without sounding like a second-rate copycat. Fred and Matt could have easily altered the TBS’s overall style, but instead they evolved it.

Both are actually really hated for some reason. There are like 3 camps of TBS fans. Those who liked the raw TAYF emo sound. Those who thought Where You Want to Be and Louder Now were the peak typically gave up after those two albums, and then there are the ones who sort of like it all. You'd be surprised how many people actually hate those two albums though unfortunately.

Louder Now and Where You Want To Be are a couple of the first CDs I ever bought right after Nevermind by Nirvana. When getting started on guitar I learned how to play most of Nevermind and the whole Sex Pistols album by ear but initially I couldn't find out where most of your guitar stuff was on the neck and this both frustrated me and inspired me to do better. I did eventually figure out how to play Damn Sure, My Blue Heaven, Divine Intervention and #5 With a Bullet before I got busy trying to write my own stuff for a project that never went anywhere.
I've always admired the way you play guitar and I remember ranting to people as a teenager about how inventive your riffs and licks are and how cool it is that you mix it up with harmonics, tapping and the use of effects which set you apart from a lot of other guitarists from the same era. You, my dad and a couple other skilled guitar players are what inspired me to move up to an Epiphone SG and then eventually a Gibson SG.
My dad is an old school prog rock guy and he's not easily impressed but even he likes most of the songs. I remember finally getting him to check out my homemade cassette copy of Louder Now in the family car on a late night drive home. It was one of the first things I played for him that I discovered on my own that he didn't overly nitpick and criticize. Looking back on it now it was a bit of a bonding experience for us and an important step toward healing our then damaged relationship. For what it's worth my first high school girlfriend who played bass and my cousin who plays guitar both love your work as well.
Thanks for the great music and the great times! Wishing you the best!

Was a hot summer day in 04 and I was taking a road trip through the Napoleon Dynamite parts of Idaho. a friend had bought the album and I remember traveling with him and his girlfriend on the freeway as the sun was just coming up and I remember thinking “this album is something special.” It was so focused in it’s vision and each song complimented the others so well.

Thank you so much for creating this record, Fred. It honestly saved my life. It was my therapy for so many years from high school through to my college years. I have the Grey splatter vinyl & it’s always prepared to spin on my turntable. I hate to break it to the ‘guys’ but I don’t think I’m alone here when I say EVERYONE KNOWS that the good TBS is contained within the 2 albums Co-Produced by you. Anyways, I’m sure you’ll never read this but... Thank you for providing me with the courage, confidence and serenity that I need in order to make life worth getting up for every day!!! One love ✌️

My favorite TBS albums are the ones you were in. They were both so fantastic and really influenced my musical style as well. New American Classic is my absolute favorite song from that album. Thank you for making such great art.

I remember seeing the video for A Decade Under the Influence on Fuse when I was 13, and learning to play guitar. You guys were honestly the first band I heard that sounded like that. I ended up starting many bands, and the two singer dynamic has been a major theme in my life. I’ve always been the singing guitar player. Just wanna say you’ve been an integral inspiration to me, and thank you 🙏🏾

Fred, you're a fucking hero bro! So appreciative of the music you were a part of creating. I think a lot of people (myself included) credit you with bringing TBS into another ballgame entirely. The work that your fingerprints are all over is the best of TBS. Thanks for the bangers, great memories blasting your grooves with friends. Cheers

I’m happy u look back on these times fondly

Like I said on your Twitter page.. TBS has been my favorite band since 2002.. this has always been my favorite album! The dual vocals and harmonies, the music was incredible and the writing!!! Man every song the lyrics (or writing) was so good!! Every song said something and not just a bunch of words. If you know what I mean. There will never be another album like it.

I remember getting this album in late Summer just before the school year started and it totally brings back memories of those time to this day. You, specifically drew me into TBS. I liked a few songs from the first album but damn, this album was on a different level. Love playing drums to this one, especially Set Phasers to Stun and ADUTI. Much respect.

My jaw DROPPED when you pointed out The Police influence on Set Phasers To Stun. The Police were the first band I ever loved and they defined my taste, but when I hit my teens I became OBSESSED with TBS when WYWTB came out and you dudes became my #1. It's been a top 10 album of all time for me since it released. As a teen I got sent to a religious camp with no outside electronics/items allowed, and when I came home the first thing I did was lay on the floor and listen to WYWTB from front to back with tears in my eyes! It's the soundtrack to my childhood and still holds up insanely well. Thank you Fred
