Hi Kaity, Sorry for your loss. That’s part of fish keeping unfortunately. I have 2 - 125 gallon tanks. One is peacocks and haps and one is more mellow South American cichlids. I have avoided the aggressive fish in that tank. The African tank has struggled. I have tried pulling bully fish out but another fish will just take his place. I have had a number of fish killed to the point I am thinking of converting it into a Tanganyika take. Especially after seeing your awesome tank. So far you say they are not as aggressive. I will continue to watch your progress. I enjoy your channel!
Love your aquariums and pond! They all look amazing. Sorry to hear about your fish. In this hobby we have our ups and downs, but at the end of the day you have created incredible and successful ecosystems right in your own living room, enjoying these systems day in and day out. To this day, I still can’t comprehend how amazing it is that we have just a tiny portion of these amazing ecosystems right in our own homes for everyone to enjoy. You are doing a phenomenal job!! Cheers!! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you SO much! I really really appreciate it :) And I couldn't agree more - we are so lucky to be able to have these little ecosystems in our homes and appreciate them everyday! Life just wouldn't be the same without it
Great vid as usually Kaity!! love the Guppy pond with the floating tank!!! looking forward to the next one. cheers...P.S sorry about loosing your fav fish.
Another great update Kaity. Sad news about your fish. 😢 I've never quarantined any of my fish in 45yrs of keeping them! Guess I've been lucky but, as you said, if you trust the source and their practices all should be OK. Best wishes from the UK.
You are very lucky lady to have so many fantastic beautiful friends. Love your tanks, your Cichlids the vibrant colours are just mind blowing your pond with the guppies and tower is impressive.i miss my fish tanks my fish found out one tank got sold 😢 . i have my own place now and I have set up a few containers up with gold fish. After watching your video on the tower you gave me inspiration on creating my own. Thankyou for your enthusiasm, positivity encouraging, inspiring content on your videos Kaity Manny Perth
It's just a matter of time you are gonna turn your tank with the sump into saltwater. It happened to me many years back, it happened to Joe DIY from Canada (love the beginners part with faults, we all did it)!
As human beings you can do the "smell test" to know if you are genitcally compatible. It must be the same for the fish, if they are in a small space and want to breed they will probably attack their "close relatives" as they are "stinky". I find its the best to build up your school of fish from different batches. Also mixing variants if the same spcies can also have the same affect, they can start to bully eachother, usually onesided. I have seen this behavior from dwarf cichlids and angel fish. So evolutionary speaking it makes sense, I think. Also another kaity upload very nice.
Your tanks are looking awesome. I remember when I had fish, I had a fish in my Malawi tank that technically shouldn't have been there, but it was a Synodontis Eupterus catfish that was somewhere between 200 and 250mm in length. It was a spectacular looking fish and I was very upset when I lost it.
Sorry for the loss kaity, always sucks to lose a fish. Also, I have a very similar tanganyikan tank to yours. Much smaller, but I have most of the same species as you.
Great video Kaity. They can suck sometimes. Just this morning one of my OB peacocks was almost dead I put him in a separate tank he's still barely alive with bladder damage I think. I put him in an epsom salt bath .
So you're going to expand into the garage! 🙂 🙂 🙂 They are gorgeous tanks, Kaity. Thanks for sharing them with us. Is the tour of Arcy's out yet. He's got an amazing shop.
A good idea for a quarantine is to have a tub with common goldfish in it at all times. I would then partition off part of it for new fish. That way it will always stay cycled.
Hi kaity, such a shame your fish died, especially seen it was one of your favorites.really sad 😢 I've lost the first fish i had in my tank just last week.Bertha ( bristlenose) died after about 20 years. So now there is barry!😂 Have you ever considered keeping a Paradisefish in your pond ? I think it would look great in there. i enjoyed the update on your tanks and pond.love the tanganykan tank! Good luck with your new fish!!
Hello, You have great and very professional tank setups. It is such a different and fantastic hobby house. In my country, women are not very interested in the aquarium hobby. That's why I wanted to congratulate you when I saw you.👏👏 I wish you happy hobbies. success 👋

Sorry about your Hongi. What a treat to see your bird, though. Nice to put a face to the chirps. Also... could you please repeat what you said about the cichlid wedging herself in between the rocks? Thank you.
Hi Katy, consider reducing your light time. Most fish don't like too much lightning, it stressed them out. The hongi must have died from stress and then the catfish and other fish may have fed on it. Which is common. I use a timer 4 hours in the morning and 4 hours in the evening. Plus the consistency in the timing of the lights coming on and off will reduce their stress. Look into getting dimmers to dim in and out the light to simulate sunrise and sunset and incorporate that into your timer. On another note get Siamese algae eater 3+(they love to school) they will feast on your black algae. Catfish only eat algae when they are small and then switch to fish food. I have 3 saimeses Algae eaters with my cichlids( get them big enough like 1.5 to 2 inches so your cichlids don't eat them. And add them when the lights are turned off and the fish are munching some fish food. Plus you can use your fish net to stir the water and leave it in for some time, this stops all aggression in the tank as they focus on the net. With plants you can use Java fern large, cichlids don't go after them. I only had my parrot dish eat or break vallisneria. Probably because of the algae on them I don't really know. But some other plants don't seem to attract cichlids to clip them.
I’m so glad to see the Tropheus doing well. There color is coming along nicely. And the Calvus. They look amazing. Sorry you lost one but it happens. Your tanks look so amazing Kaity. Until next time.😘
#3:55 that is just the nature of these beasts! I went on vacation, a friend of mine had to take care of the fish while I was gone... they started fighting. When I returned after only two weeks, all but two were still "alive" and it was just an awful sight :(
Poor fishy, RIP...its always sad losing a pet. P.s. I would bury a bit deeper as local cats might dig it up😔 I love the golden fox? fish in the new tank!
Bummer about your mbuna! I might be in the minority on this but I actually am starting to prefer the Tanganyikans over the Malawis. I love you setup and if I go African cichlid I be looking at your peninsula for inspiration.
Some of the Tanganyikans will prob get aggressive when they breed or get bigger. The Tretocephalus are famous for it. But I've never kept them. I have kept Julie's and they could be little terrors. 😂
Yes I've heard that about the Trets too, it's going to be so interesting to see how it all unfolds... And wow I never suspected that of the Julie's lol, they look so innocent!

You could always run a filter in your sump and when you need the quarantine tank you’ll have a cycled filter to use.
Hi from the UK. Great video. I keep a sponage filter running in my sump, so when I need a hospital/quarantine tank, I have an instant cycled filter!
Your Tangy Tank looks terrific!
