I love your uncle's book about the book of Revelation. I have given it as a gift to several people. I loved your insights. (The grains of sand - sea of glass) I watch every week. I watch about an hour a day and take a lot of notes. I am hoping that someday you teach the book of Revelation - one chapter per week. I know that is too much to ask for such a busy person as yourself, but please put that in the back of your mind Bro. Halverston. I appreciate all that you do!

My husband and I found you quite by accident last summer and have been listening to you ever since. We listen to you and a few others plus take notes, read, study, ponder, and thirst after more scriptures more than we ever have in our after raising 7 children life. We just got back from our own tour of historical church sites and they meant so much to us because of our studies. The gratitude and love we feel for our Savior cannot be written here. I find myself becoming more active in all life around me and trying to find those who would want to receive his life -giving messages. Muchas gracias!

Being a Dane that went on a mission in England I totally get what you are saying. I KNEW I spoke the language when my companings forgot I was Danish, and the people thought I was from an other part of town. And now I have to translate again, mostly when I write 😉 and I find it is the same with the gospel. Being converted when I was 17 I Can really see what the gospel has done for me. But again it was a frien that joined the Church when she was in her 40’ies that has helped me to see how the gospel slowly has changed me. I never had the fear on my mission that you talk about. Perhaps I was a convert, I had fought to go on a mission for 4 years when I went. So it was what I wanted.

I guessed Isaiah and Revelation would be 2 of the 3, but I love those. Then I realized I struggle with Leviticus so when you mentioned that one, I half-laughed - guilty! Now, I have to read it again and look for the symbolism. I never realized that and I was born to sealed parents - was always active in all classes, meetings and endowed, and I'm in my 60's! Never was taught that nor did I figure it out. I look forward to reading it with "new" eyes. Thank you. I always look forward to your videos and I learn so much every time.

I live in Idaho now but for about 18 years, while raising my children I lived in north central Arkansas. One of the things I miss most is the really stop in your tracks questions of the converts and investigators in Sunday school classes, many of these people in class had come into the church from other faiths, I even had one women once say to me, that because she had attended so many other faiths that she would sometimes get confused by what was church doctrine or what was from another faiths doctrine, and she was always afraid of asking questions" for fear of getting her hands slapped so to say for not knowing the answer when everyone else seemed to already know". I sometimes worry that by making knowing statements we shut the door for greater spirit and revelation both for ourselves as well as others. As I say this I also know that I often make the same mistake. If I have learned anything this year of studying with you the Doctrine And Covenants it is that questions are part of the pattern the Lord uses in giving revelation. Questions are more than acceptable to the Lord and we should make room for them in our lives. Thank you for opening this door for me.

My Mum talked to a seagull with one leg, well I think it's leg may have been held up somehow, and mother would ask Peg-a-leg the seagull what us children had been up to and would then look at us and tell us what a little birdie told her. Sometimes good things we had done, sometimes not so good. She could tell when we were lying, which was not often but we knew what ever we got up to Peg-a-leg would tell her. I love that you are explaining how we can understand revelations. President Nelson wants us to ask for and receive personal revelation. That means it is possible.

I always want to leave you so many comments after I have a mind-blown moment during these lessons, but then if I did, I would fill out pages of Yet Another Testament of Jesus Christ (though most unlikely to be published since I would not know of its universality or just applicable to me kinda thing). Anyway, I kept turning over the thought of the eyes and filled with eyes. Thought about it a bit more and found out that a monarch caterpillar has 12 eyes and seem to barely distinguish between light and darkness but after its transformation into a butterfly, it ends up with 12,000 and can even see ultraviolet! There are already so many symbolic lessons about going through our conversions like that of a monarch changing from a caterpillar to a butterfly. Thank you for helping me gain additional insight on my pupa-building stage.
    Hopefully, that was insightful ;)

Talking about the sea of glass reminded me of seeing through a glass darkly, the original Hebrew word is more a mirror. When Christ returns we will see ourselves more clearly with his love showing light we will also see others more clearly through his charity and grace. We will see we are better than we think we are. What a glorious time that will be.

How can one say they hate any of the scriptures? That does not feel right. We find those scriptures difficult and maybe not our favorites, but "hate" the scriptures? Brother Halverson, I appreciate how you teach us to know and understand these scriptures. I love the symbolism and learning what it means through your teachings. I know that I, personally, must read and listen to all more than once, and it is more than worth every moment! Studying the scriptures is a lifelong duty and privilege! Thank you!

When I heard “sea of glass” I thought of the French “mer de glace” which is a glacier… It brought to mind a huge force that is stopped by nothing… that carves out valleys, pulverizes rocks and trees… it connected to me the idea of the stone cut out of the mountain without hands… a glacier carving though a mountain without hands…
Anyway, just thought it was an interesting direction…

This is just an impression I've had as I've studied the Myers-Briggs Personality Temperment test. Personality/pyschology...human nature.. It's always intrigued me. I relate EVERYTHING to the scriptures and the Gospel.
As I listened to your lesson I wondered if one interpretation could be likened unto this "sorting" of these beasts. They could be a representation of those 4 temperment types which are subdivided into 4 other catagories within each. So you Limited to the 4, but classed according within each. This study has always interested me. There are many intereptations of this personality test. How opposites attract and how all views are needed to get a full perspective on the world...life...relationships...eternity. How all areas of the mind could come together to all be of one mind.

I am already looking forward to listening to your lectures for the Old Testament, but then I worry life might get in the way and you may not be able to continue these videos. If that becomes the case, I wanted to ask you beforehand if you could recommend great resources for studying Isaiah? As you mentioned, the symbolism can sometimes be hard and I am looking for some help! Hello Friend,
I was thinking 🤔 maybe the 24 elders were the 12 apostles in Christ ministry and the 12 apostles after his resurrection in 3rd Nephi . This is after Christ comes and they are all back in his presence. This thought came to me when I was studying revelation. I am still trying to understand it all. I love watching your video’s they teach me so much. I wish we could double date and speak the beautiful things of the kingdom. Been a convert I just can’t get enough. The more I learn the things of God, I feel the less I know.

@Unshaken I had a thought while you were explaining the eyes and the wings... the wings could represent the 24 elders sitting I. The throne room meaning the judges in Israel - there being 4 beasts with 6 wings =24 wings. The eyes represent all that they need to see in order for them to judge righteously. Just a thought! I love your videos.

I love your insights and benefit greatly from them. But, I was thinking that perhaps the 24 elders were the 12 apostles in Christ's time in Jerusalem, and the 12 apostles he chose on the American continent. But, perhaps that may be too literal?

Dear Brother Halverson, we enjoy your presentations very much and learn a lot from you. My husband and I felt that the word "hate" (at the beginning of your presentation) was too strong of a word for describing the books of scripture that saints avoid. We personally don't "hate" them, we just don't visit them as often as other books of scripture.

Can you recommend a good book for someone who doesn’t like to read? My son is going on deployment and I’d like to get him a book that will inspire him to turn to God. (He has a rudimentary understanding of the gospel because he’s always rejected learning of any topic. It has to be easy to read.) Thank you!

When you say that the person who volunteered needed to be worthy... weren't we all worthy? Did we just know that we wouldn't be able to stay sinless once we got to Earth? I thought it had to be Jesus Christ because he was Heavenly Father's 1st born spirit son? You teach that he volunteered. I've been wondering these questions for awhile now. Thanks for teaching.

The way that I envision it, is that your are right, that the "right" (and responsibility) to take the role of Savior belonged to Jesus. However, it wasn't going to be forced upon Him. He needed to volunteer for it.

Can someone answer a question my husband and I have? The answer in verse 12 says that God made the earth in six days and on the 7th he finished his work and sanctified it, and formed man out of the dust of the earth. Genesis and Moses, as you know, says man was created on the 6th day and on the 7th day he finished his work and rested on the 7th day? Does just go back to the time line is just estimates?

@1:11:00 I believe Christ will visit several times at the beginning of the Millennium and I also feel that we will have something to do with bringing about the peace. I cannot believe that the wicked will not be destroyed, though. There are too many people who are too evil to convert. I think we will have a hand in extending lifespans through our inspired innovations. My fear is that the division between us will become greater and that conditions will get so bad that average people will have to seek out the righteous in order to live in peace. I don't want to see persecution as the reason why we unite.

All voices should be heard in church councils, a diverse group is good.
The only requirements are that each have an eye single to HIS glory, that they love their neighbor and desire their neighbor gain Salvation and lastly that the cause espoused in these councils is the cause of Christ.
Then, and only then can the diverse council you are suggesting work.

Not wanting to send critical - 99% of what you say resounds with me and is amazing.
But, the comments of Nicodemus were not so literal. Remember the Savior commented at the rarity of a Jew without guile? Well, Nicodemus was not one of those. He was speaking symbolically and sarcastically when he spoke of returning to the womb. It was a sarcasm bomb that the Savior understood and parried with supernal skill.
Oppressed people as a rule hide all their true meaning in sarcasm.

So I have a question. When you are going over the question in vs 10, when you answer you say “and that’s the time in which we live, the end of the sixth seal”. Do you mean “we” current day or “we” Joseph Smith’s day?

I have questions too, including, but not limited to:
Why do you say ask and ye shall receive, or ask in faith, believing that you'll receive it, and you will receive it, but when that doesn't happen, you fall back on the cop-out answer of "not my will, but thine"?
Which is it? Do I ask for what I need, or just say his will be done, even though he'll do his will whether I ask or not?

I'm troubled by one of the things you said about missionary work in this episode. You compared "being on a mission" to "being a missionary" and said that the difference is when they wake up and want to do the work because they love it. I am worried that missionaries out there listening will think they aren't a "real" missionary if they don't love every moment of their missions. I know there were a lot of days when it was my sense of duty that got me out of bed in the morning, and it wasn't that I didn't love the Lord and want to do His work. Missions are very taxing, spiritually, emotionally, and physically. There might be moments of pure wanting to do the work but there are other moments where you are just tired. I don't think people who experience that are any less of missionaries. I'm afraid people may get the impression that they're not real missionaries unless they feel drive to work all the time.

I have a question? Are someone that's just investigating the Church, allowed to partake of the sacrament?

    • @ClintK.
      @ClintK. 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Yes they can. Please come and attend and invite your friend if it's them wondering. The sacrament is a nut shell is a renewal of a covenant made with God which is made at baptism and continually reminds us of that covenant and Christ being at the heart of it where he shed his own blood and body was given on our behalf when he performed his atonement. Hope that helps.

    • @glendaking1385

    • @ClintK.
      @ClintK. 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

@@glendaking1385 nope anyone can partake of it as long as they haven't been prohibited which is a discussion for a different time. Within the church only those that are of 8 years old or older are baptized. You'll see many young children partaking that aren't baptized being younger than 8 years old. Guests and visitors may also partake. I'd highly recommend you goto churchofjesuschrist.org and request two nice missionaries to meet with you and answer your questions. I hope this all helped.
