    33.771 were shot in a 2 days massacre.Unbelievable but true -there were survivors who climbed out of the mass graves and gave testimony at various trials. The German Film producer Brauner made a movie about the Babi Yar massacre in black and white.

      Yeah there’s actually an interesting book that focuses on local police forces and why they participated not in Ukraine but in Poland. I think it’s called “ordinary men“ it’s written by a Jewish guy of course, but he does a fair exploration of how ordinary people could participate in rounding of Jews. Because we saw this same affect all of where as soon as law and order fell average people took out long held grudges on the local Jewish population and this is something that is too easily chalked up to “Hitler propaganda“ even though most of these people didn’t speak German never heard a German speech or film. Anyway that’s a cool book and I think there’s an audio version maybe I’m wrong but I think there’s an audio version online maybe on TH-cam

      @59Gretsch ปีที่แล้ว

      If you don’t know “why” people did it you really haven’t explored the topic. Everywhere you look in the world and in history you see similar events of mass killing of people for one reason or another, and there always is a reason. Pretending that Hitler alone with a few speeches
      Made everybody hate Jews, even in countries had never heard him speak or could understand him if they did. In this case it was Nazis doing it, But in so many other countries as soon as law and order Fell people attack Jews in the most vicious way for a whole host of reasons. In some cases believe it or not the Nazis had to put a stop to it because of the disorder it was creating. Most of the Jews shot in Ukraine were shot by Ukrainians under the supervision of Germans and this is true in many countries such as Latvia Poland hungry Romania Estonia

    • @59Gretsch
      @59Gretsch ปีที่แล้ว

      The reason you can’t work it out in your head is because you don’t understand humanity in history. This type of manslaughter is the norm going even back to the Bible where the Jews killed off All populations to possess the chosen land.

    In Oradour-sur-Glane France the Waffen SS executed 643 men, women and children in 1944. At his trial in 1946 Joachim Pieper whose battalion earned the nickname the ‘Blow Torch Battalion “ said that in Russia they had done the same thing to a thousand Russian villages. In 1941 Nazi Germany Lebensraum’Living Room’, Operation Barbarossa, Hunger Plan and Ost Plan was to be the starvation, killing and exile all Slavic people from Poland, the Baltic States, Ukraine and Russia to the Ural Mountains. Germany expanded east and recolonized with ethnic Germans. Warsaw razed, Kiev blown up with high explosives, St. Petersburg/ Leningrad returned to marshlands and Moscow destroyed and turned into a lake were some of Hitler’s ideas.

THAT is the main danger of dying violently in domestic America.
      Not police, unless you are Afro American, not a terrorist, but the gun nut in the family.
      Apart from the obvious danger of meeting another trigger happy loonie, owning guns is CLEARLY. the biggest risk to the families with the guns.

      @@drmorqWarrenProject Actually, I have a degree in military history, traveled to 70+ countries on 6 continents, with multiple combat tours in my 32 years of continuous service. The Founders of our Republic got it right by placing our inherent defense in the hands of the People. The German people allowed themselves to get disarmed by a very eloquent, captivating and evil dictator who spelled disaster for its citizens, their country, continent and humanity as a whole. I find it fascinating (but mostly comical) how people put down on the strongest elements of our country by usually intimating their affection for the elites. Us knuckle dragging gun toting people (or whatever the pejorative you were getting at) are supposed to be less sophisticated I guess than the Europeans, despite the fact that they managed to slaughter between 80-150 million of each other and utterly annihilate their continent twice in a mere 31 year period. America has and will have its problems, but if things get too far out of hand (as in the case with early 19th Century Germany), the Founders built in an effective fail safe in the system. This is not an “extremist” “far right” statement, it’s basic history.

    The use of words such as "routable" and "horrific" when used to execute Nazi war criminals or indeed any other legal execution by hanging is totally unsuitable. These criminals were hung period.
    Their crimes however were almost always "brutal", horrific and could be described with it other additives.

    Your framing of this story in both the video title and description is completely off. There was nothing "brutal" about the just execution of the guilty German SS men. Their crimes of mass-murder (which you incorrectly refer to as "executions") were grave and the hanging they received -relatively humane compared to what they dealt out to their victims -is better than what they deserved. Perhaps you meant that the mass-murder that they committed (which you refer to as "executions") was brutal?

    If the standards of these days would be applied to todays armies and their leaders, many of them would end on the gallows as well. No comments about ukrainian police units, without the help of which this massacre could not be executed. Even Solschenizin critisized the Red army for not convicting Russian war criminals, and he himself served in the Russian Army in those days. If you critisize Russians war criminals, you end up in jail for discriminating the Russian army, they just have to be heroes. Just look how Russians behave in the Ukraine today. I don't excuse anything that happened there, but this is a good rxample, that history is written by the winners.

      Whenever we speak about historical events, it’s typical do use the term used at that time. Ukraine being part of the Russian empire and then a state within the USSR used the Russian spelling and pronunciation. So when we talk about Constantinople, historically, we don’t call it Istanbul. Before communism it was Saint Petersburg
      Then under communism it was Leningrad and then later it was Saint Petersburg again. If you fill out a document and they ask for your place of birth you are required to put the name of the city at that time not the name of it today.
