So I did watch this around when it came out. But I clearly forgot about most of it, like the ridiculousness of “ruining immersion” because now you can’t shoot through a walker but we’re still going to ignore being able to shoot through a full group of troopers that would definitely be blocking line of sight for the one trooper or unit that is behind them! And that’s realistic!?! Lol But I just had a game this past Friday where a “new rule” came up and instead of arguing, I just said fine. And I wanted to check it out! I wonder if I left any comments the first time watching though!
Something not mentioned with regards to the deflect changes is that while deflect was nerfed, lightsaber styles that included the deflect effect as part of it (I believe just Soresu and Djem-So masteries) still have the original version. So Anakin and Obi-Wan can still get the defensive surges in melee.
Same. I had started making a proper rulebook and was going nuts looking for things that were buried in other keywords (like army composition). The game needs a proper rulebook like this.
They could release a unit card pack with updated info on them at this point, because they changes so many things that the texts are almost useless. At least for players who not play regularry and can't memorize a book of rules. It was nice to check on the unit cards if I forgot something and don't need the reference. But that's just my opinion.
What I'm disappointed with is the lack of an updated errata. With the changes to movement, there are units like AT-RTs that have incompatible text now. AMG Needs to release an errata update, even if it's just to say there's a v2.5 so that the documents are all operating on the same number (for clarity). But there are units that need to be addressed in light of all of this. I'm also disappointed by a seeming lack of exact measurements for the silhouette. Why? When you print the template page (it's nice that they separated that out), everyone is going to be printing it at slightly different scales. Casual players won't really care, but this does create an issue if everyone is using a different sized silhouette. At some point, exact numbers on this are going to be needed in addition to the printable ones.
Thanks Crabbok. The rulebook had a token with the Phoenix Squad icon on it. I imagine that the clarification of the force upgrade cards is because Phoenix Squad is going to be released with Hera as the leader :)
Very much enjoyed this extra long video, will have to sit down and go through all the rules myself in detail. I'm not surprised that they nerfed GAR any more, they are the underdog faction and will always be from the looks of it
I'm still new to all this and just (pretty much) learned the OG rules with the updates and now I have to go back and update my fresh understanding with even more knowledge lol. Buckle up, Buttercup: THIS IS LEGION!!!
It does say that ground vehicles will be considered as area terrain that provides heavy cover. What this means is that if a unit is obscured by the silhouette of the vehicle it gains heavy cover. So you can still see through them. Also "block LOS" is determined by each piece of terrain separately.
Personally, I find that the new silhouette rules are more immersive. We are looking at the game as static models, but in a 'real' battle, everything would be constantly moving. Just because you can see those stormtroopers behind the at-st doesn't mean that you could shoot them through is moving legs.
Have to agree - it isn't immersion breaking when viewed like this; if anything the big walker bearing down on you means you aren't going to be that focused on some troops coming up behind it.
A lot of these changes seem like change for the sake of change and to make legion more like MCP. Some changes are good like dins amban, but a lot of changes open up more issues and ambiguity
Silhouette sounds like how they do certain terrain features in MCP. Like the Quinn Jet, most minis can move underneath the wing. However if two opposing minis are on either side of it they can not get LoS. Because it is supposed to be a top down perspective.
Great stuff! The bit about the leader not being able to take wounds before other models is on page 31. There's also a little bit about targeted abilities and who choose the model to be removed
The competition rule about not using "proxy cards" is such BS.. If they want people to use original cards, then they should be selling these with te correct, updated stats on them..
Nice video. I'm agreeing with most of your points. There are some changes to Keywords that dont seem to be thought through. Din and Empire Boba can no longer use their versatile gun whilst fighting in melee due to the changes to arsenal ; "When choosing weapons during the Choose Weapons and Gather Dice step, each miniature in the unit that has the Arsenal X keyword can choose up to X weapons to contribute to the attack pool. " You can no longer split the weapons into different attack pools. And other changes to keywords which don't seem necessary. Exemplar no longer allows for the sharing of Standby tokens, and the others you mentioned; Deflect in melee, Covert Ops, Fire Support. Overall, Its good that AMG have done this. One rules document is always preferred. But there are areas which still need tweaking IMO.
I, for one, would love for them to make I hard copy of these similar to the Warhammer rules books with all of the amazing art, painting tips, lore, etc. I'd glady buy one
38:04- Breaks immersion?!? Really!?! But shoot through a full squad of clones and maybe even a few squads of clones to hit Anakin Skywalker all the way behind everyone isn’t breaking immersion?!? Really? The immersion was broken almost immediately when the game first came out! I love the game, I just find it funny how people will pick and choose when something should and shouldn’t matter!?! Even though it contradicts what they’ve been saying from the get-go!
As a CIS player I don't know how I feel about this rules change. Other than notched vehicles silhouettes and grievous becoming even worse (somewhat?) these rules don't really affect me.
Hope the overhang thing doesnt hurt our club terrain. There's lots of spots where cohesion on elevation may not work now with the stuff we have if it's 100% base on rooftop
@@ExileTwilight I won't be doing that as it's all good quality scratchbuilt stuff that has served our community well. It's not a game-breaker anyhow, unless split level cohesion is gone?
"Null courage" to me has always meant infinite courage so adding 1 does nothing...so as far as courage goes dark troopers should have no problem adding a imperial commander...however, being able to get what would be equivalent to adding a dark troopers by adding a imperial commander or commander tech sounds like that was not what they were intending
Thanks for clearing up some of the smaller changes that I missed. I like that Legion is being updated, but some of the LOS rules are a little screwy. Not gonna change our casual games much tho.
You are wrong on the Field Commander keyword. It still states that "A unit with the Field Commander keyword is not a [commander rank] and only counts as one for the purposes of issuing orders with a Command Card during the Command Phase. " So no cover ops with only a field commander
For sure it will impact the game but I’m choosing the light side. A bunch of things have been fixed for the better and the others I think will help the game. I’m not agreeing totally with all the los rules. But it’s great to see legion still thriving. Curious about grand army and skirmish. Overall the rules look and feel a lot cleaner.
I like this rulebook overall. Many subtle changes that I am going to have relearn but I feel these changes will improve the health of the game and help get more people into the game.
I would like see a Jedi master and Apprentice team wear like maybe you know that you could bring either the Jedi Master or The Apprentice or you could have them both as either operatives or a commander that'd be really cool
The trooper overhang fixes /nerfs fds with the if it sit it legal issue/flexibility choice it feels like they are stremlining their games to be very similar
At LVO this year the LOS and cover changes were a nightmare. Took so long for judges to determine cover or not. Even the LVO winner was frustrated. By far cover and LOS was the worst of the changes.
I read an article saying the defender picks what part of the silhouette you draw line of sight from so they can make you draw line of sight from your base. Is that true?
the unit that i have wanted since they announced the clone wars is the generic jedi and padawan, dont care if they are special forces or commander/operative with counterpart
I’m mixed on the new changes. Some are good, some are ok, some just seem… odd. Although at the end of the day GAR got nerfed again. Not at all surprised as that is par for the course these days. Clones can’t catch a break.
One I would like to join the giveaway hehehe but I also have a question I am reading the rules and on page 23 I slightly confused because it saids during a Recover action you remove ALL Submission FROM THE UNIT so instead of only taking one action when your suppressed and holding onto the extra suppression, if your one action is to recover which by the rules makes your submission 0, can you now take your 2 unit action? (It still result in one action but your until clears all suppression as now panic units skip and only lose x suppression = to yellow value) As I think you said if you gain a submission during your turn via duck and cover and become panic you have to skip
You lose an action if you are still suppressed after your rally step. If you aren’t suppressed at that point, you still get your normal actions. Gaining extra suppression after that check won’t suddenly make you lose actions.
27:31- Are you talking about a enemy unit? I’m pretty sure you were never able to do that!?! You can correct me if I’m wrong but I’m pretty sure Infiltrate has always been “deploy anywhere on the board Beyond distance 3 of all enemy units!?! So how would you be able to deploy anywhere near a enemy unit, let alone actually touching that unit?!?
shooting under repulsor vehicles was never allowed, though. The LOS-blocking AT-ST is a fix to a problem that didn't exist within the confines of existing rules

When will AMG learn? The problem with the Star Wars minis games is NOT the rules....it's all the BLOAT. There's just far too much content for new players to want to invest in the game, so when veteran players jump ship, there's no one to replace them. Creating brand new rules only fuels the problem.
How so? Do you mean the fact that every new unit seems to get a wave of unique keywords that only matter for that unit (vs using existing rules where possible)?
Seems to be a lot of weird interpretations about LoS and vehicles (AT-ST), especially in the FB groups. People seem to be misreading rules or just completely misinterpreting what is actually written. I think a few forum rulings on dubiously worded examples aren’t helping matters either. Might be a good subject for a “how to” video.
AMG has gone the way of Games Workshop in nerfing existing units rules so the new products will power creep the old units so people will buy the new models. The Deflect change is to allow the Dark Troopers to defeat force users more easily. That way everyone will buy Dark Troopers.
One big thing I somehow forgot to mention is also the fact that exemplar can no longer share standby tokens!!!! Rip Padme and Anakin!

I was going to say the same thing. Mainly Luke so far that seems hit hard cuz he didn't have a Lightsaber style.
Yup, makes GAR more competitive

The issue of the at-st being a immersion breaking cylinder, could be resolved by a new keyword, I guess.
