OK if Blizzard Force is focused around taking up to 4 Bikes and having an AT-ST instead of AT-AT maybe it should have been an Endor Battle Force. Maybe with a unit of Scout Troopers as core instead of having Snowtroopers.
Completely agreed, really not a huge fan of Blizzard Force from a thematic point of view. Seems like like they just mashed some poorly selling minis into one box and called it good.
That imperial 3 pip and then 1 pip would be such a great combo dealing out suppression and then forcing them to keep it. I think these will be super thematic which makes the game way more fun
Lots of interesting developments with the battle forces. I agree regarding 4 speeder bikes for Blizzard Force, that seems more like something that should be in an Imperial battle force for the Battle of Endor, not Hoth.
I am glad that the buffs of these forces are weak, this is because another game I play has things very similar to battle forces, called “legendary legions” and their strong bonuses are making the game less and less diverse in list building, instead of each faction having multiple builds, each faction has one leagion that is built and played one way. It is much worse for the game. The way Star Wars Legion is doing it is great, they are taking lists that normally cannot be played in the regular game (either due to building requirements or not enough slots) and making them legal. The best use of these flinging Forward would be to make things like a Wookiee legion, which does not require core units, and has more special forces slots, which would allow an army of all Wookiees.
I'm legitimately surprised at the Invasion Force, the original idea I assumed is that it'd be 0 commanders, compulsory field commander, possibly 3 heavies and a whole heap of droids
Question? Courage of the Rebellion says "Issued an order using this card" doesn't that mean it will only work on two units? Cant wait to run a table full of B1s "Roger Roger" No super battle droids.... interesting...
I like the battle forces being weak, as I have seen another game loose list diversity due to its version of battle forces make each faction only have one type of list build. My hope for battle forces is to make niche lists that would normally not be legal in game-such as a wookie or mandalorian force- be playable.
I find these Battleforces utterly boring - they are not that much different to what you could already field using the standard rules. Well, a ballsy thing would be to allow canon-accurate forces which are impossible with the standard rules, like a Clan Wren Rebellion where you must field Sabine with the Darksaber as a commander, Clan Wren, and only Mandalorian Resistance plus one or two commanders and/or operatives, for example. They could also include a new unit card for a Mandalorian Resistance Strike team and one or two new heavies, and you still could build the force with the existing minis. I hope the next Battleforces are a bit like this - more daring and really new. That being said, I really love the concept of the Battleforces in general and I'm looking forward to what will come next.
The new droid 3 pip could be very powerful for turn 5 or 6 for something like key positions or intercept. The whole strategy of double aat was hiding the B1 horde till the end to just swarm the objectives, and this could be a big help with that
I kinda have the feeling that the battle forces for most part are more thematic armies that are more newbie friendly. As much as it can be treated as a competitive game; I feel particularly the battle forces have been designed to allow people to make thematic sets without competitive consideration. Because so far I imagine the hardest thing is actually getting people into the game; 40k for example is an immense jugganaught to even remotely consider getting into and legion, while not as dense in models, is still a bit of a hike to get up to 800 points initially. I think I might end up picking up one of these (not sure which tbh. I'm still unsure which range I would want to paint all the time lol) to get a solid start to expand from. With the slight exception of the shadow collective of course; given that it doesn't exist as a faction outside that battle force. It's going to be interesting to see if that turns out to be any good.
Slight additional statement: I'm not necessarily saying that legion sets should be awful, but I kind of feel that Star Wars Legion is much more then a competitive system, it's the opportunity to mess around and build thematic sets. I kinda feel that being able to hook many more causal players will result in there being more invested players in the future, rather then one that merely cater's to efficacy. Let people figure out for themselves after buying the gateway starter set which way they want to go.
Okay, what exactly is the separatist invasion supposed to be? Partially it feels very much based on the Trade Federation Invasion (focus on B1 and command card, Maul) and partially just on Separatist high command (Dooku, Greivous and Magna Guard). And also: What exactly are the Stormtroopers supposed to be doing in Blizzard Force?
I don't know, Dooku never invaded anything so he should not be part of an invasion force, the battle forces are supposed to represent a specific force that fought together, but the CIS one doesn't, as a droid player I feel cheaped out
Admittedly, I'm surprised by Dooku's inclusion in the list, but with Grievious it could have described the *second* invasion of Naboo as well, which WAS led by Grievous (and resulted in his capture by JarJar)
@@samuelhein8090 Dooku probably lead multiple assualts, not sure what you mean. There are many battles we did not see in star wars. We do see go to Dathomir though.
I think having a DLT/HH12 combo isn’t a bad option, sit in the back line throwing 2R 3B impact 4, precise 1 and 3W at R3 is an ATST dice pool for 74points… I think Blizzard force is quite fun and interesting, The new cards are all solid and have a place in the army. The 3 pip if you ignore spur giving your weapons suppression is huge, the stormtroopers split firing DLT, RT97c and E11 can lay down a tonne of suppression. Spur is great on snowtroopers if running commander Vader
So far mostly interested in running Blizzard Force and Separatist Invasion, rather disappointed with Echo Base Defenders and can't run 501st until the box set comes out because I have yet to even see a phase II unit for sale anywhere
Pizza is good! Nice overview of the battle forces. I like them, but I'm not sure I understand why they released them. Is it to provide an almost ready made list for specific scenarios (along with some special rules for the scenario)?
I just rewatch the final season of The Clone Wars. Ther Captin Rex was promoted to Comander so he can go with Ahsoka to Mandelor to capture Maul. So o predict that the new version if Rez will be en operative and the coming Ahsoka will be a Commander and the version of her of the battle of Mandelor. May we get Bo Katan and the Night Owls as well.
I'd have swapped the speeder bikes with E-Webs and made Veers the commander. Either that or swapped out the snow troopers for something else and made it an endor force. The snowtroopers are about the only thing that make it feel like Blizzard force lol. That being said the art is top notch.
These are interesting. I'm not sure if I'll do anything with the Echo Base Defenders (as I run Rebels and droids), but the Seperatist Invasion really got me thinking. I've been running E-5Cs, PK droids, and an OOM droid with HQ Uplink for a while, and this just gives me an excuse to add two more squads. I've got a T-Series, 8 B-1, and AAT list speced out, and am looking forward to running it in my next game.
I find it interesting that the 501st doesn't have any operatives listed that you can take, but the list requirements for both a regular game and a skirmish mention the option to take an operative. Could this be leaving space for future Asoka or possibly the change in rank for Rex? Maybe make Clone Captain Rex into an operative and have a new mini or card for Clone Commander Rex as a commander? Just a thought. Great video enjoyed the break down.
Very dissapointed the 501st can't take Phase 1s. It just doesn't make sense and really sucks because I prefer phase 1s over phase 2s. Blizzard Force looks to be the overall the best. The command cards and new Stormtroopers look great
@@scelonferdi Yeah but then Echo shouldn't be there at that point. I just think it's a bad design choice to exclude Phase 1s. I only have Phase 1s in my collection so I can't play this battleforce which really sucks and not to mention my Rex and ARCs are modeled with Phase 1 helmets
@@andrewfrederick3375 Yeah, that kinda sucks for you. Never liked the mixing of phases and imho they should've rifle/line and assault/carbine squads, shipping everything with phase 1 and 2 head options. Anyway, let's just hope that there'll be a (second) battle of Geonosis Battleforce at some point, focusing strictly on phase 1 (and bringing some nice artillery support through command cards).
Does it fit the theme for the Clones to not get an Operative? Has there been any clarification on the Droid battle force on the number of B-1 units in the box (description says 3, back of box says 4)?
If I’m honest, these are really disappointing. With all of these restrictions on list building (the Separatist Invasion Force more so) there aren’t any major buffs and changes that, at least to me, make these worth playing with the list restrictions. Like why is Empire the only faction that gets an exclusive unit card? It doesn’t even fit in the list thematically
My thoughts as well. I feel that each force should have got a unique unit card that synergised with the command cards. Additionally, the command cards should be unique and creative, to justify playing with the rule restrictions.
There are a lot of fun combinations with double heavy weapons, having that damage output hidden behind red defense dice gives a lot of utility. You can even split-fire 3 ways and suppress all of your opponent's core units in one round of shooting
I don’t get it, when you run an aat tank with a t series tactical droid and 4 b1 units you can’t afford to take operative maul? That’s with everything naked as well. Am I missing something?
All four of them have something weird that really detracts from things for me. Whether it's the command cards, the unit restrictions, or the Force Org limitations, none of them get me super excited like I was hoping for.
only being able to take two units of stormtroopers with blizzard force sucks. thats not worth all the other restrictions. they shouldve just allowed two units of stormtroopers to take a second heavy weapon regardless of being blizzard force or not. stormtroopers arnt exactly good.
I'm really pissed at echo base defenders. Why would you give 4 boxes of rebel vets if you can only run 6 corps? Being able to field 8 corps would instantly make the box amazing.
