Cammed L67 0-100+km/h Acceleration

  • Couple of acceleration runs in my 200rwkw cammed intercooled manual l67 Commodore. 0-100 was roughly 5.5 second with 0-200 being roughly 20 seconds. These times are marginally quicker than the equivalent SS Commodore and if it wasn’t for the pesky 2nd to 3rd gear change at 90 would be a much quicker 0-100!
    All driving was performed on a closed road.

      Yeah still a getrag, and it’s not the happiest, hasn’t completely shat the bed yet, if I drove it easily it would be fine but I’ve got 3 spares so I treat it fairly roughly

      @@hayden6056 it’s been noisy like that for probably 5000kms and probably 2500kms with 430nm going through it. It’s gotten a little worse but I’m not holding my breath on it lasting much longer! I’ve got 3 betrays spare and recently starting buying t5’s for when they all die 😂
      Only running 3.46’s, good balance between acceleration and economy

      @@MrWispy99 yeah 3.46 is usually my go to with a getrag. But this ones in a vs ute and struggling to find some vl six cylinder gears for 3.45's
      Have some 3.7s or 3.08's. it'll be busy , 3k changes is putting you in to third at 45-50kms an hour and fourth at 70 but may be fun seeing as should pull 7000 rpm or just over.
      What cam set up is in yours? Is it just constant noisy like an input shaft bearing? Had any synchro issues , grinding on hard shifts? Or don't shift it hard trying to pro long it?

      @@hayden6056 Yeah that’s fair, if economy isn’t a concern the short gears are definitely the way to go!
      It’s got a Brushworks cam in it which comes in real strong in the top end.
      It’s more a whirring than a constant and never had synchro issues and I shift the absolute guts out of the poor thing, like I said I’ve got spares and I’m curious to see what the actually failure point for it will be so I’m not really concerned 😂

    Can getrags be built to take that abuse or just t5 swap even though its a pain in the arse compared to a getrag, not good boxes i hear but someone built a getrag with heavy duty clucth shortshifter and apparently put upgraded e46 bmw gears inside to make it reliable is there another way to make these strong to handle about 180kw and last as long as the motor at all?

      I personally never blew up a getrag but for future proofing I actually done a t56 swap. I have heard plenty of reports or people running 300+kw through getrags with no problems, depends on the type of clutch and the mechanical sympathy when driving

      ​@@MrWispy99 how easy is it to t56 swap in terms of wiring and other bits like pedal box tailshaft and bolting to the super 6 etc?
      If theres a reliable way for a getrag even when thrashed or ill get one built I reckon might be OK to thrash a normal amount if I get one built plus I'm only thinking of pushing at the most 300hp no more so that might help the getrag stay very healthy too

      You need an adapter plate and custom clutch, the getrag tailshaft won’t work but I think a Ute one will but you would have to measure, pedal box and clutch master are the same but will need a hose to suit the slave cylinder in the t56, wiring isn’t bad, might have to get the speed sensor calibrated
      All in all it’s cheaper to buy 5 getrags and replace them each time they die, the t56 conversion including buying the box is around 5-6 grand depending on clutch and other things to make it work

    I have a top swap vt ecotec, 222/222 @.50 cam, 3" pulley w2a intercooler, high rockers etc hope to get it on the dyno soon on e85, have 3.9 gears going in soon behind t5 in my vr should love a mang 👌

      Sounds like a great combo! Will be very quick off the line with the 3.9’s! E85 and a 2.5” pulley is my next step 👌🏻

      @@GRUDGEPERFORMANCE that should be pretty spot on, I see around 10-11psi with a 3.1” and overdrive balancer but that’s running hybrid a2a so you should have no problems 👌🏻

      You’re not wrong, it’s a very fine line between bogging down and spinning tyres, they are a heavy car that take a little bit to get rolling!

      The inter oil art plate comes from Mace Engineering and the core is just a generic kit

      It’s got roughly 200kw at the wheels and I’ve done a fair bit so far. Bottom end has been rebuilt with all acl bearings, arp bolts and studs throughout, roughly 9.5:1 compression, big blower cam, valve job, mls head gaskets, upgraded oil pump, deleted balance shaft, air to water to air intercooled, 5% over driven balancer, 3.1 inch 8 rib pulley, extractors with 2 1/2” exhaust all ran by a Haltech elite 750 ecu. I’m currently in the process of putting together a big e85 safe fuel system and I have a 2.4” pulley sitting in the shed to go on when that’s all done

      @@needmoreboost6369 conservative run in tune, limited the timing a fair bit due to high intake temps and no knock control on the elite 750 especially with the stock rods and pistons, tuner wasn’t keen to push it more until it had done a bit of work and a few intercooler tweaks dropped the intake temps to a more manageable level

      @@MrWispy99 understand completely!it’s a better car when not tuned to self destruct, I’m interested as I just swapped my vr for a vx s with blown gaskets I’m wondering how far to go with it and I’ve got a turbo vs on 98ron. but on stock ecu and l67 chip,kill mode is 27psi it’s still fun on 17psi low boost,

      @@needmoreboost6369 very nice 👌🏻 personally if I started from scratch again I’d go turbo, the money needed to control the heat created by the blower isn’t worth it compared the gains from turbo
      The hybrid cooler set up is more or less 2k in parts by itself

      I initially had gutted cat with a 2.5” Redback, was pretty obnoxious and loud, much better sound from the twin system and you can actually drive it places without attracting too much attention 👌🏻

      @@tupacshakur4829 I know, it happened to my car as well when it was lighter, it works as an advantage because you can see it catches grip and stays at 60, it doesnt drop meaning it was the perfect amount of wheel spin and he infact was doing 60 when it gripped again in 1 second. Wheel spin or not he was actually doing 60 within 1 second

      Uses a sandwich plate under the blower to direct air to an inter cooler then back into the intake

      @@Name-yp3pi to put perspective on stuff i got a VX L67 calais super clean and I got a quote to rebuild the engine and box for 8k that and was roughly estimated to make 200kw-230kw at the crank going off the builders last builds
      Imo a 200kw L67 with 500+nm is more of a sleeper than an SS cause the V8 note is a dead giveaway

      The cluster (speedo tacho) was first featured in VY series 2 Spac before the VZ sv6 was released just adding the VZ dash clusters do not work in VY or earlier the HSV wheel is the only change apart from a double din shown in this video
