Chemical administered would be nice
What chemical do you recommend?
So what's the chemical??????
Help. If you make a second treatment a few weeks or months later, do you squirt in the same cuts, or do you make new cuts (maybe below the first cuts?)?
Guessing Glycophosphate 20% or more.
Can you just drill in to the tree at an angle and then fill the hole. Maybe do 3 or 5 around the tree
will this method work on chinese tallow trees and if so what chemical would you recomend, thanks
Will this kill the root system of the tree as well? I'm dealing with the tree of heaven and did this technique. How long will it take to show if it has killed the tree?
Come on now herbicide treatment whats the product, put a link or if amazon has it link it, would help
We recommend contacting your local Extension office to find out what chemical works best for your situation. Here's a factsheet that does provide some recommendations- blogs.clemson.edu/fnr/2021/07/07/using-hack-and-squirt-method-to-control-undesirable-vegetation/
what happens after treating Aitlanthus with Hack + Squirt, what happens to the tree? Does it shrivel and die? or will it fall over? I have some in my backyard and want to understand the likelihood of it falling over after treatment
The tree will not shrivel up and die, so if it is a large tree that is a fall risk, it may be best to cut it down and immediately do a cut stump treatment.
Here's our factsheet on Ailanthus- blogs.clemson.edu/fnr/2021/10/12/invasive-species-spotlight-tree-of-heaven-ailanthus-altissima/
Here's our video on cut stump method- th-cam.com/video/UCKIvluuIa8/w-d-xo.html
Since it's such a small amount of poison, can the trees be safely harvested for firewood later? Dumb question, but I had to ask. Thanks
It can be used for firewood, but you need to make sure it's not too rotten when you go to cut it up. You also want to make sure you don't cut the tree down too soon before the chemical can take effect in the roots. If you have a tree you're wanting to use for firewood, the cut stump method may be better- th-cam.com/video/UCKIvluuIa8/w-d-xo.html
Is there a general rule to follow for application when rain is in the forecast to retain effectiveness of the herbicide?
Usually at least 12 hours and sometimes up to 24 hours. This can depend on the season and how actively the tree is growing. In the spring, hack and squirt is not recommended due to the heavy sap flow.
Does hack and squirt treatment method work if performed in the winter?
No it does not as the trees are dormant.
Everywhere else I’ve read the only time it doesn’t work is the spring when sap is flowing. I suppose the type of herbicide matters in some cases.
It works fine in the winter. Only early in the growing season is it doubtful.
@@FNRClemson If you read your own fact sheet, it says any season except during heavy sap flow. The fact sheet is correct.
Can premixed Roundup be used?
See our factsheet for Glyphosate recommendations- blogs.clemson.edu/fnr/2021/07/07/using-hack-and-squirt-method-to-control-undesirable-vegetation/
This pdf refers to roundup pro. But what if I only have regular 18% glysophate roundup?
@@lcglazer 18% is marginal but might work. Try it, you have nothing to lose. Applying in fall or winter gives you the best chance of success.
